Book A Q GERT Model and Analysis of the Communications in a Mechanized Brigade Covering Force

Download or read book A Q GERT Model and Analysis of the Communications in a Mechanized Brigade Covering Force written by Henry Charles Cobb (Jr) and published by . This book was released on 1979 with total page 124 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this thesis is to determine if the Queuing Graphical Evaluation Review Technique (Q-GERT) can accurately model tactical military communications in a manner which can be used and understood by managers who have little computer expertise. Q-GERT is a FORTRAN-based analysis package which models networks consisting of events (nodes) and activities (arcs). The communications for a mechanized brigade covering force is easily modeled using Q-GERT symbolism and user written FORTRAN inserts; however, a manager must be proficient in FORTRAN and have access to the 1000 node/1000 arc Q-GERT package to accurately implement this model. The conclusion of this thesis is that Q-GERT is a flexible modeling technique which should prove to be a valuable managerial tool for the military manager when the larger Q-GERT package is used. Book GERT Networks and the Time Oriented Evaluation of Projects

Download or read book GERT Networks and the Time Oriented Evaluation of Projects written by K. Neumann and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 275 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Towards the end of the fifties methods for planning, scheduling, and control of proj ects were developed on the basis that the evolution of a project can be associated with a special weighted directed graph, called activity network. In this association, the individual activities of the project correspond to the arcs, the so-called proj ect events (beginning or termination of activities) correspond to the nodes, and the durations of the activities correspond to the weights of the respective arcs of the directed graph. 1) Contiguous arcs are assigned to activities which succeed one another immediately. The event corresponding to a node occurs exactly at the time at which all activities which are associated with the arcs leading into the node are terminated. After the occurrence of an event all those activities are be gun which correspond to the arcs emanating from the respective node. This implies especially that the evolution of the project has to be uniquely determined before hand, that every activity and every event are realized exactly once during the exe cution of the project, and that "feedback" (corresponding to cycles in the asso ciated network) is not permitted. Many projects, for example most R&D projects and projects in the area of production p 1 anni ng, do not sa ti sfy the foregoi ng res tri cti ons.

Book Modeling and Analysis of Local Area Networks

Download or read book Modeling and Analysis of Local Area Networks written by Paul J. Fortier and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2018-05-04 with total page 254 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Modeling and Analysis of Local Area Networks fills a void in the array of books on Local Area Networks (LANs) in that it reviews the state of LAN technology from a hardware and software perspective, develops a set of metrics that can be used to evaluate LANs for end applications, and investigates methodologies for evaluating LANs from these perspectives. The book discusses LAN evaluation techniques utilizing analysis, operational analysis, hardware testbeds, and simulations. Simulations will be stressed in greater detail and a tool available for evaluating LANs performance (called MALAN) is presented and the details of its structure developed.

Download or read book A Guide to Simulation written by P. Bratley and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 399 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Simulation means driving a model of a system with suitable inputs and observing the corresponding outputs. It is widely applied in engineering, in business, and in the physical and social sciences. Simulation method ology araws on computer. science, statistics, and operations research and is now sufficiently developed and coherent to be called a discipline in its own right. A course in simulation is an essential part of any operations re search or computer science program. A large fraction of applied work in these fields involves simulation; the techniques of simulation, as tools, are as fundamental as those of linear programming or compiler construction, for example. Simulation sometimes appears deceptively easy, but perusal of this book will reveal unexpected depths. Many simulation studies are statistically defective and many simulation programs are inefficient. We hope that our book will help to remedy this situation. It is intended to teach how to simulate effectively. A simulation project has three crucial components, each of which must always be tackled: (1) data gathering, model building, and validation; (2) statistical design and estimation; (3) programming and implementation. Generation of random numbers (Chapters 5 and 6) pervades simulation, but unlike the three components above, random number generators need not be constructed from scratch for each project. Usually random number packages are available. That is one reason why the chapters on random numbers, which contain mainly reference material, follow the ch!lPters deal ing with experimental design and output analysis.

Book Energy Use in Transportation Contingency Planning

Download or read book Energy Use in Transportation Contingency Planning written by George Horwich and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 177 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Energy Use in Transportation Contingency Planning emphasizes the evaluation of experiences relative to energy and transportation contingencies and the assessment of knowledge about disaster preparedness and emergency planning in the United States. The book focuses on the role of the government during emergency situations, particularly the disruptions in transportation and energy in the United States. The text then presents opposing views on the role of the government in these kinds of situations. Systems and remedies that are deemed important during emergencies are noted. Some of these emergencies include railroad disasters and earthquakes. The role of government agencies during emergencies, particularly on mobilization preparedness, is highlighted. This role is shown in the programs implemented by the Department of Defense, the Department of Transportation, and the Department of Energy. The role of the private sector in lessening the impact of energy disruptions is noted as well. The text is recommended to those involved in emergency planning and preparedness.

Book Current Issues in Computer Simulation

Download or read book Current Issues in Computer Simulation written by Nabil R. Adam and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2014-05-09 with total page 313 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Current Issues in Computer Simulation is a collection of papers dealing with computer simulation languages, statistical aspects of simulation, linkage with optimization and analytical models, as well as theory and application of simulation methodology. Some papers explain the General Purpose Simulation System (GPSS), a programming package incorporating a language to simulate discrete systems; and the SIMSCRIPT, a general-purpose simulation language using English commands, for example, FORTRAN. Another simulation language is the General Activity Simulation Program (GASP), providing for an organizational structure to build models to simulate the dynamic performance of systems on a digital computer. Other papers discuss simulation models of real systems, including corporate simulation models, multistage consumer choice process, determination of maximum occupancy for hospital facilities, and the juvenile court system. Many computer simulations are statistical sampling experiments performed on a model of the system under investigation. Other papers discuss some of the variables involved in the statistical design and analysis of simulation experiments such as variance reduction techniques, generation of random variates, and experimental layout. For example, one application simulates inventory systems when many items are stocked in various locations. The collection is suitable for programmers, computer engineers, businessmen, hospital administrators, schools officials, and depositories of huge volumes of information or data.

Book Project Planning Scheduling and Control in Construction

Download or read book Project Planning Scheduling and Control in Construction written by Calin M. Popescu and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 1995-03-20 with total page 630 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Critical Path Method (CPM) and Performance Evaluation and ReviewTechnique (PERT) are widely recognized as the most effectivemethods of keeping large, complex construction projects onschedule, under budget, and up to professional standards. But thesemethods remain underused because they are poorly understood and,due to a host of unfamiliar terms and applications, may seem morecomplicated than they really are. This encyclopedia brings together, in one comprehensive volume, allterms, definitions, and applications related to the time and costmanagement of construction projects. While many of these termsrefer to ancient and venerable building practices, others haveevolved quite recently and refer specifically to modernconstruction and management techniques. Sources include hundreds ofprofessional books, trade journals, and research publications, aswell as planning and scheduling software vendor literature. The detailed glossary of all applicable terms includes across-referenced listing of examples that describe real-worldapplications for each term supplied. An extensive bibliographycovers all applicable books, articles, and periodicals available onproject planning, scheduling, and control using CPM and relatedsubjects. This book is an important quick reference and desktop informationresource for construction planners, schedulers, and controllers, aswell as civil engineers and project managers. It is also theultimate research tool for educators, students, or anyone who seeksto improve their understanding of the management of modernconstruction projects.

Book Introduction to Queueing Networks

Download or read book Introduction to Queueing Networks written by J. MacGregor Smith and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-08-28 with total page 562 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book examines the performance and optimization of systems where queueing and congestion are important constructs. Both finite and infinite queueing systems are examined. Many examples and case studies are utilized to indicate the breadth and depth of the queueing systems and their range of applicability. Blocking of these processes is very important and the book shows how to deal with this problem in an effective way and not only compute the performance measures of throughput, cycle times, and WIP but also to optimize the resources within these systems. The book is aimed at advanced undergraduate, graduate, and professionals and academics interested in network design, queueing performance models and their optimization. It assumes that the audience is fairly sophisticated in their mathematical understanding, although the explanations of the topics within the book are fairly detailed.
