Download or read book Lenses on Reading Second Edition written by Diane H. Tracey and published by Guilford Press. This book was released on 2012-05-09 with total page 274 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This widely adopted text explores key theories and models that frame reading instruction and research. Readers learn why theory matters in designing and implementing high-quality instruction and research; how to critically evaluate the assumptions and beliefs that guide their own work; and what can be gained by looking at reading through multiple theoretical lenses. For each theoretical model, classroom applications are brought to life with engaging vignettes and teacher reflections. Research applications are discussed and illustrated with descriptions of exemplary studies. New to This Edition *Current developments in theory, research, and instructional practices. *Useful pedagogical features in every chapter: framing questions, discussion ideas, and learning activities. *Classroom applications give increased attention to English language learners and technology integration. *Coverage of additional theories (Third Space Theory) and theorists (Bakhtin and Bourdieu).

Book Models of Reading

Download or read book Models of Reading written by Martha J. Koehler and published by Bucknell University Press. This book was released on 2005 with total page 340 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Models of Reading will be of interest to Richardson, Burney, and Laclos scholars, as well as specialists in the history of the novel, the culture of sensibility, epistolary fiction, gender, and theories of reading. Koehler's arguments incorporate much recent criticism of eighteenth-century fiction, making this study a useful compendium even beyond the value of its own findings."--Jacket.

Book Computational Models of Reading

Download or read book Computational Models of Reading written by Erik D. Reichle and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2021 with total page 609 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "This book describes computational models of reading, or models that simulate and explain the mental processes that support the reading of text. The book provides introductory chapters on both reading research and computer models. The central chapters of the book then review what has been learned about reading from empirical research on four core reading processes: word identification, sentence processing, discourse representation, and how these three processes are coordinated with visual processing, attention, and eye-movement control. These central chapters also review an influential sample of computer models that have been developed to explain these key empirical findings, as well as comparative analyses of those models. The final chapter attempts to integrate this empirical and theoretical work be both describing a new comprehensive model of reading, Über-Reader, and reporting several simulations to illustrate how the model accounts for many of the basic phenomena related to reading"--

Book Psychometric Framework for Modeling Parental Involvement and Reading Literacy

Download or read book Psychometric Framework for Modeling Parental Involvement and Reading Literacy written by R. Annemiek Punter and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-02-19 with total page 104 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume offers insights from modelling measures of parental involvement and their relationship with student reading literacy across countries, exploring and incorporating cultural differences. This is a significant contribution to a field where cross-cultural comparisons from a triangulated perspective are sparse. For readers interested in exploring the relationship between parental involvement and student attainment, the literature review provides a useful starting point. Meanwhile, for the more methodologically interested reader, this report presents state-of-the-art ways to identify and model cultural differential item functioning in international large-scale assessment (ILSA), illustrating the extent to which the parental involvement construct may be influenced by cultural differences and how this may affect the outcomes of cross-cultural comparisons. The framework is generic and should provide a solid foundation for future ILSA practices and secondary analyses. ILSA studies like the IEA’s Progress in International Reading Literacy Study (PIRLS) provide valuable data, containing both student achievement data and contextual background data from schools, teachers, students and parents for over 41 countries.

Book Instructional Models in Reading

Download or read book Instructional Models in Reading written by Steven A. Stahl and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-04-03 with total page 433 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book started with a simple idea -- examine models of reading instruction that have emerged during the past 20 years. These models span a wide range of instruction representing a continuum from highly structured, task analytic instruction to child-centered and holistic instruction. Each model has its own epistemology or views on how "reading" and "instruction" are to be defined. The different epistemologies indicate different principles of instruction which, in turn, indicate different practices in the classroom. Each model is also supported by a different research base. In this volume, leading proponents of these different models discuss their ideas about reading instruction thereby encouraging readers to make their own comparisons and contrasts. The chapter authors seem to adopt the editors' eclectic approach--to some greater or lesser extent--incorporating aspects of other models into their instruction as they see other goals. Thus, models of reading instruction are complex. Complicating matters further is the fact that teachers hold their own models of reading, which may or may not be congruent with those discussed here. Although academically developed models influence college preservice and in-service instruction, teachers' own models of reading filter the information that they take from what they learn from these perspectives. By carefully examining these variables, this book makes a firm contribution toward disciplined inquiry into what it means to teach reading.
