Book Marine Propellers and Propulsion

Download or read book Marine Propellers and Propulsion written by John Carlton and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2011-04-01 with total page 556 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Although the propeller lies submerged out of sight, it is a complex component in both the hydrodynamic and structural sense. This book fulfils the need for a comprehensive and cutting edge volume that brings together a great range of knowledge on propulsion technology, a multi-disciplinary and international subject. The book comprises three main sections covering hydrodynamics; materials and mechanical considerations; and design, operation and performance. The discussion relates theory to practical problems of design, analysis and operational economy, and is supported by extensive design information, operational detail and tabulated data. Fully updated and revised to cover the latest advances in the field, the new edition now also includes four new chapters on azimuthing and podded propulsors, propeller-rudder interaction, high-speed propellers, and propeller-ice interaction.·The most complete book available on marine propellers, fully updated and revised, with four new chapters on azimuthing and podded propulsors, propeller-rudder interaction, high-speed propellers, and propeller-ice interaction·A valuable reference for marine engineers and naval architects gathering together the subject of propulsion technology, in both theory and practice, over the last forty years ·Written by a leading expert on propeller technology, essential for students of propulsion and hydrodynamics, complete with online worked examples

Book Test of an Adjustable Pitch Model Propeller at Four Blade Settings

Download or read book Test of an Adjustable Pitch Model Propeller at Four Blade Settings written by E. P. Lesley and published by . This book was released on 1930 with total page 30 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This note describes tests of an adjustable blade metal model propeller, both in a free wind stream and in combination with a model fuselage, at four settings of the blades. The model propeller is designed for a uniform nominal pitch/diameter ratio of .7 and the blade settings used correspond to nominal pitch/diameter ratios of .5, .7, .9 and 1.1 at the .6 radius. Tests show that propellers of this type may be considerably changed in setting from the designed pitch angles and yet give excellent performance. The efficiency realized and power absorbed when blades are set at other than the designed angle, are little different than would be obtained from a propeller with uniform pitch equal to the mean pitch of the propeller under test.

Book Experimental Spindle Torque and Open water Performance of Two Skewed Controllable pitch Propellers

Download or read book Experimental Spindle Torque and Open water Performance of Two Skewed Controllable pitch Propellers written by Robert J. Boswell and published by . This book was released on 1975 with total page 196 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Experimental results are presented on the spindle torque and open-water performance of two skewed controllable-pitch propellers. Both propellers have radial distributions of skew specified so that the section midchord is forward of the spindle axis at the inner radii and aft of the spindle axis at the outer radii. One propeller has no rake and the other has substantial forward rake. The experiments were conducted at steady conditions in uniform flow in a towing basin over a range of positive and negative pitch ratios and a range of positive and negative advance coefficients so that the complete maneuvering envelope of the ship was simulated in a quasi-steady manner. The experimental open-water performance was correlated with calculated values based on a least-squares fit to previous systematic experimental data.

Book Open Water Test Series of a Controllable Pitch Propeller with Varying Number of Blades

Download or read book Open Water Test Series of a Controllable Pitch Propeller with Varying Number of Blades written by William B. Morgan and published by . This book was released on 1954 with total page 15 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A series of open water propeller tests was conducted with an adjustable pitch propeller with 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 blades. The faired coefficient curves of thrust, torque, and efficiency are presented with the propeller design. An example is given to illustrate the use of the curves in selecting the optimum propeller for a given set of conditions. (Author).

Book Practical Design of Ships and Other Floating Structures

Download or read book Practical Design of Ships and Other Floating Structures written by You-Sheng Wu and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2001-08-22 with total page 721 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This proceedings contains the papers presented at The 8th International Symposium on Practical Design of Ships and Other Floating Structures held in China in September 2001 - the first PRADS of the 21st Century. The overall aim of PRADS symposia is to advance the design of ships and other floating structures as a professional discipline and science by exchanging knowledge and promoting discussion of relevant topics in the fields of naval architecture and marine and offshore engineering. In line with the aim, in welcoming the new era, this Symposium is intended to increase international co-operation and give a momentum for the new development of design and production technology of ships and other floating structures for efficiency, economy, safety, and environmental production. The main themes of this Symposium are Design Synthesis, Production, Hydrodynamics, Structures and Materials of Ships and Floating Systems. Proposals for over 270 papers from 26 countries and regions within the themes were received for PRADS 2001, and about 170 papers were accepted for presentation at the symposium. With the high quality of the proposed papers the Local Organising Committee had a difficult task to make a balanced selection and to control the total number of papers for fitting into the allocated time schedule approved by the Standing Committee of PRADS. Volume I covers design synthesis, production and part of hydrodynamics. Volume II contains the rest of hydrodynamics, and structures and materials.
