La modélisation a pu être réalisée à partir d'une étude bibliographique et grâce à une étude expérimentale approfondie au banc gaz synthétiques. Ces essais ont particulièrement mis en avant le rôle prépondérant de NO2 dans ce système que ce soit pour le stockage des NOx ou l’élimination de suies. L’étude de la formation de NO2 a donc été un point fort de cette étude. Une meilleure conversion de NO2 favorise un meilleur stockage des NOx, avec une plus grande vitesse de stockage. Différents paramètres limitant la formation de NO2 et par là l'efficacité du catalyseur 4 voies ont ainsi pu être identifiés : la cinétique à basse température, ma thermodynamique à plus haute température mais aussi les réducteurs. Au niveau des suies, NO2 a un rôle promoteur de la réaction d’oxydation des suies. Cette réaction entre en compétition avec le stockage des NOx. Les suies influent aussi sur la cinétique d’élimination des autres polluants. Ces observations ont été autant d’éléments à prendre en compte pour élaborer le modèle de catalyseur 4-voies. Le schéma réactionnel retenu à partir de ces essais et le modèle cinétique mis au point ont permis d’obtenir des résultats de simulations concluants, en accord avec l'expérience. Les simulations des essais de montée en température ont donnés de bons résultats. Ceux de saturation du catalyseur en stockage des NOx ont été concluants à haute température. A basse température, le comportement du catalyseur est plus difficile à reproduire. La partie filtre à particules et régénération des suies reste à intégrer au modèle.
