Book excerpt: En milieux urbains imperméabilisés, ou dans les régions où les pluies d'orage sont fréquentes et violentes, il convient de stocker temporairement les volumes des précipitations dans des ouvrages de rétention avant de les relâcher à débit contrôlé dans les réseaux d'assainissement ou le milieu naturel, ce qui limite les risques d'inondation et les impacts environnementaux. La dimension de ces ouvrages de rétention peut vite être importante et leur implantation sur un site encombré devenir compliquée et onéreuse. La solution proposée dans ce travail de thèse est de répartir la rétention sur plusieurs ouvrages de rétention reliés entre eux par des canalisations et contrôlés par des ajutages, et de jouer sur leur capacité respective et les conditions de transfert pour optimiser le rejet dans le réseau ou le milieu naturel. Un outil de modélisation de type réservoir a été développé, qui représente avec un bon niveau de précision les hauteurs dans les ouvrages de rétention et les débits transférés en fonction du temps ainsi que de l'intensité et la durée de la pluie. Ce modèle simplifié incrémenté en fonction d'un pas de temps cohérent avec l'intensité de la pluie travaille en volumes et débit sans s'attarder sur les conditions hydrauliques d'écoulement. Il a été validé par plusieurs études de sensibilité sur des séries de 2 ou 3 réservoirs et ouvre la voie à un outil de pré dimensionnement rapide, robuste et fiable.

Book excerpt: Le présent travail concerne la prévision des défaillances du réseau de distribution d'eau à l'aide des trois approches, à savoir l'approche statistique, l'approche de survie et l'approche de réseaux de Neurones Artificiels. Ces approches ont été appliquées au réseau de la ville de Wattrelos dans le nord de la France. Leur comparaison a permis d'étudier leurs performances et d'en choisir la meilleure approche applicable à la stratégie de réhabilitation. Pour mener à bien cette étude, nous avons mis en place une méthodologie basée sur cinq phases: collecte de données, analyse statistique, application du réseaux de neurones artificiels (RNA), application de l'approche de survie et la prévision. Après l'élaboration de la base de données composée de facteurs potentiels de défaillance, l'application des différentes approches a permis de désigner les méthodes du RNA et de survie comme les plus adéquates à l'étude de prévision de la défaillance en raison de leur capacité élevée à prévoir leur nombre. Ces approches ont été appliquées pour déterminer la prévision prospective de la défaillance pour la période (2005-2015). Les résultats obtenus permettent de programmer des interventions sur le réseau et de comparer différentes stratégies de réhabilitation. Enfin, à base du modèle global RNA (meilleur modèle obtenu), des cartes de risques spatiales ont été réalisées illustrant les zones les plus vulnérables. Ces cartes constituent un outil d'aide à la décision essentiel dans le choix du réseau à réhabiliter en priorité

Book excerpt: Les bassins périurbains, constitués de zones urbaines, agricoles et naturelles, sont des bassinsversants complexes à étudier. L'augmentation des surfaces imperméables et les modifications deschemins d'écoulement par les réseaux d'assainissement influencent leur hydrologie. Ces modificationssont notamment liées aux choix de modes de gestion des eaux pluviales : réseaux unitaires,réseaux séparatifs, infiltration à la parcelle, etc. La modélisation hydrologique spatialisée, quirend compte de l'hétérogénéité des bassins versants, est un outil permettant d'évaluer les différentsenjeux en termes d'occupation du sol et de gestion des eaux pluviales. Cependant, peu demodèles ont été construits pour être appliqués aux bassins périurbains, à l'échelle des gestionnaires( ̃ 100 km2) et pour des simulations sur de longues périodes (> 10 ans). La modélisationhydrologique doit donc être adaptée afin de mieux capter les spécificités des milieux périurbainstelles que l'hétérogénéité de l'occupation du sol et la connexion de certaines zones urbaines à unréseau d'assainissement.Ce travail de thèse a consisté à développer un nouvel outil de modélisation adapté à ces problématiques: le modèle distribué horaire J2000P. Ce modèle simule les processus hydrologiquesen milieux ruraux et urbains et prend en compte les réseaux d'assainissement, les connexionsà ces réseaux et les déversements des déversoirs d'orage (DO). Le modèle a été mis en oeuvresur le bassin périurbain de l'Yzeron ( ̃ 130 km2), situé à l'ouest de Lyon. L'évaluation, effectuéeà l'exutoire de différents sous-bassins de tailles et d'occupations du sol différentes, montre desrésultats très encourageants. Le modèle a tendance à sous-estimer le débit mais la dynamiquedes pics est bien représentée tout comme le déversement des DO. Suite aux résultats de l'évaluation,une analyse de sensibilité « pas à pas » du modèle a été réalisée et différentes hypothèsesde fonctionnement du bassin ont été formulées pour améliorer la compréhension du modèle etdes processus représentés. Le modèle a ensuite été utilisé pour tester l'impact de modificationsde l'occupation des sols et/ou de la gestion des eaux pluviales sur la réponse hydrologique. Lemodèle montre que la gestion de l'occupation du sol a moins d'influence sur l'hydrologie dubassin que la gestion du réseau d'assainissement.

The various invited contributions to the ARW were structured in a subject progression much as chapters are organized in a book. The intent of the ARW was to assess the current state of knowledge in "Unsaturated Flow" and its use in "Hydrologic Modeling Practice". In a sense the interest in fundamentals of unsaturated flow in this ARW was not just for the sake of knowledge but also and primarily for the sake of action. Can such fundamental knowledge be utilized for better management of the water resource? was the basic question.
