Puisqu'il s'agit d'une des premières études sur le sujet, l'objectif de de ce mémoire est d'établir les bases nécessaires à la commande de tels robots à travers un mécanisme simple. Le mécanisme étudié est un robot combinant les aspects d'un pendule double à ceux d'un pendule de longueur variable, possédant trois degrés de liberté et seulement deux actionneurs. Ce dernier peut atteindre différents objectifs (position et orientation) successivement en oscillant tel un enfant sur une balançoire. Les analyses cinématique et dynamique sont d'abord présentées et validées à l'aide de simulations numériques. Puis, les différentes méthodes de planification de trajectoire sont discutées et une planification incluant des trajectoires paramétriques pour les articulations actionnées et un algorithme d'optimisation pour la liaison libre est retenue. La précision et la robustesse de la commande sont finalement démontrées à l'aide d'un robot virtuel et, enfin, d'un prototype. Au meilleur de nos connaissances, il s'agit des premiers travaux présentant la commande en temps réel de tels systèmes.
