Aujourd'hui en parodontologie, la seule indication reconnue de la contention est le rétablissement de la fonction et du confort du patient après traitement de l'inflammation. D'autres études doivent être menées pour préciser son rôle dans la prévention et le traitement de la parodontite.

L'auteur s'est appliqué dans un premier temps à rappeler les modifications histologiques provoquées par les déplacements dentaires. Puis il a évoqué succinctement les notions de récidive et de contention. Dans un deuxième temps, après un bref rappel sur les différentes mesures de mobilité, il a justifié le choix de l'appareil ainsi que le choix des jours et le protocole opératoire. Enfin il conclut en notant la différence de comportement entre mono- et pluri-radiculées et la persistance d'une mobiblité >1 pour 16% des dents après 63 jours. Cela implique donc que la contention devra durer plus de 63 jours. Il explique enfin que cette étude soulève certaines questions qui seraient à développer.
