Book Neutral B Meson Mixing Parameters in and Beyond the SM with 2 1 Flavor Lattice QCD

Download or read book Neutral B Meson Mixing Parameters in and Beyond the SM with 2 1 Flavor Lattice QCD written by and published by . This book was released on 2014 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We report on the status of our calculation of the hadronic matrix elements for neutral $B$-meson mixing with asqtad sea and valence light quarks and using the Wilson clover action with the Fermilab interpretation for the $b$ quark. We calculate the matrix elements of all five local operators that contribute to neutral $B$-meson mixing both in and beyond the Standard Model. We use MILC ensembles with $N_f=2+1$ dynamical flavors at four different lattice spacings in the range $a \approx 0.045$--$0.12$~fm, and with light sea-quark masses as low as 0.05 times the physical strange quark mass. We perform a combined chiral-continuum extrapolation including the so-called wrong-spin contributions in simultaneous fits to the matrix elements of the five operators. We present a complete systematic error budget and conclude with an outlook for obtaining final results from this analysis.

Book Determination of the Neutral B Meson and Neutral B s Meson Mixing Matrix Elements in 2 1 Lattice QCD

Download or read book Determination of the Neutral B Meson and Neutral B s Meson Mixing Matrix Elements in 2 1 Lattice QCD written by Richard Evans and published by ProQuest. This book was released on 2008 with total page 250 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report presents a calculation and results for the matrix elements relevant for the analysis of B0 -- B¯0 mixing using the Asqtad (light-quark) and Fermilab (heavy-quark) actions. The calculation is performed on the 2+1 MILC ensembles at three different lattice spacings, and uses staggered chiral perturbation theory to perform the extrapolations to the physical light quark masses as well as to the continuum. All known systematic errors are explored and estimated resulting in a value and uncertainty for xi that can be used directly as input for Unitarity constraints.

Book Masses And Mixings Of Quarks And Leptons

Download or read book Masses And Mixings Of Quarks And Leptons written by Yoshio Koide and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1998-03-04 with total page 346 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It is widely accepted that quarks and leptons should be understood on the basis of the same unification scheme. The investigation of hidden rules behind observed quark and lepton mass spectra will provide a very important clue to a unified model of quarks and leptons. Now the investigation is timely because of the recent abundance of data on the CKM matrix elements and neutrino mixings. This volume offers useful information and hints on a unified understanding of quarks and leptons.

Book Effective Field Theories in Flavour Physics

Download or read book Effective Field Theories in Flavour Physics written by Thomas Mannel and published by Springer. This book was released on 2004-11-11 with total page 177 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book constitutes a compact review of the applications of effective field theory methods in flavour physics, with emphasis on heavy quark physics. Some of the relevant applications are discussed to illustrate the method. It covers the full range of theoretical tools related to the application of the effective field theory idea: Starting from the weak interactions as an effective theory derived from the standard model, well-established methods such as heavy quark effective theory, the heavy quark mass expansion and chiral perturbation theory are addressed. Also more recent ideas such as QCD factorization and soft collinear effective theory are outlined. Finally the standard model itself is viewed as an effective theory, allowing a model-independent look at the results of the new physics. The book should be useful for the advanced graduate student as well as for scientists who are interested in the theoretical toolkit used in the context of flavour physics. It is not meant as a complete review of the subject, rather it should be useful as an introduction to the basic ideas.

Book Research Directions For The Decade Snowmass 1990 Proceedings Of The 1990 Summer Study On High Energy Physics

Download or read book Research Directions For The Decade Snowmass 1990 Proceedings Of The 1990 Summer Study On High Energy Physics written by Berger Edmond L and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1992-09-16 with total page 828 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With the advent of the Superconducting Super Collider and other new technologies, coupled with the development of particle astrophysics and other non-accelerator based physics, research in high energy particle physics in the nineties promises to break into new and exciting frontiers. To chart the directions and opportunities for this new decade, the 1990 Summer Study on High Energy Physics was organized in Snowmass, Colorado. Like previous Snowmass Summer Studies, it plays a key role in shaping research directions and in drawing the particle physics community together. This book of the proceedings examines the full spectrum of important scientific issues and opportunities in high energy particle physics in the decade of the 1990's, including research at existing and anitcipated hadron-hadron, e+e-, and ep colliders; research at fixed-target facilities; the scientific potential of possible new facilities such as B factories; particle astrophysics and non-accelerator based physics; and accelerator and detector initiatives. It also discusses the physics and technical aspects of the initial Superconducting Super Collider experimental program. This volume, therefore, offers a captivating glimpse into the future of high energy physics, and makes essential reading for all physicists interested in assessing the exciting new research opportunities the future technologies would bring.

Book The Brown Muck of B 0 and B 0 s Mixing

Download or read book The Brown Muck of B 0 and B 0 s Mixing written by and published by . This book was released on 2011 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Standard Model contributions to neutral $B$ meson mixing begin at the one loop level where they are further suppressed by a combination of the GIM mechanism and Cabibbo suppression. This combination makes $B$ meson mixing a promising probe of new physics, where as yet undiscovered particles and/or interactions can participate in the virtual loops. Relating underlying interactions of the mixing process to experimental observation requires a precise calculation of the non-perturbative process of hadronization, characterized by hadronic mixing matrix elements. This thesis describes a calculation of the hadronic mixing matrix elements relevant to a large class of new physics models. The calculation is performed via lattice QCD using the MILC collaboration's gauge configurations with $2+1$ dynamical sea quarks.

Book B Decays

    Book Details:
  • Author : Sheldon Stone
  • Publisher : World Scientific
  • Release : 1994
  • ISBN : 9789810218362
  • Pages : 676 pages

Download or read book B Decays written by Sheldon Stone and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1994 with total page 676 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This 2nd edition is an extensive update of "B Decays?. The revisions are necessary because of the extensive amount of new data and new theoretical ideas. This book reviews what is known about b-quark decays and also looks at what can be learned in the future. The importance of this research area is increasing, as evidenced by the approval of the luminosity upgrade for CESR and the asymmetric B factories at SLAC and KEK, and the possibility of experiments at hadron colliders. The key experimental observations made thus far, measurement of the lifetimes of the different B species, B0-B0 mixing, the discovery of ?Penguin? mediated decays, and the extraction of the CKM matrix elements Vub and Vcb from semileptonic decays, as well as more mundane results, are described in great detail by the experimentalists who have been closely involved with making the measurements. Theoretical progress in understanding b-quark decays using HQET and lattice gauge techniques are described by theorists who have developed and used these techniques.Synthesizing the experimental and theoretical information, several articles discuss the implications for the ?Standard Model? and how further tests can be done using measurements of CP violation in the B system.
