Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Mixed Metals or Metallic Alloys During the last decade much progress has been made in the study of metallic alloys, and a clearer conception has been formed of the causes of many properties which before were inexplicable. Many new alloys have been introduced, and many others have been modified to suit modern requirements and new invention. The author has endeavoured to incorporate the substance of these investigations and productions in the present edition, so far as the aim and scope of the work permits. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Metallic Alloys: A Practical Guide for the Manufacture of All Kinds of Alloys, Amalgams, and Soldiers, Used by Metal-Workers; Together With Their Chemical and Physical Properties and Their Application in the Arts and the Industries IT is not claimed that the work here presented actually fills a void in our technical literature, but it is believed that there is no other recent one in the English language on the Metallic Alloys which combines with practical use fulness a sufficiently popular character for those readers who have not made Metallurgy and its kindred Arts objects of special study. The endeavor has been made to offer a book which fully treats on all matters relating to the subject, and which will explain to the Mechanic and Artist the properties of the metallic alloys and amalgams as far as they find application in any branch of technology and the industries. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Waterbury Book of Alloys: Supplement The metal itself is extremely sensitive to chemical as well as mechanical conditions and unless care is exercised in every possible direction disappointment. In the final results is inevitable. In many instances, even when the greatest care is taken with the melting and pouring Operations, the result ing castings will be, found to be defective. These results in general may be charged to changes in atmospheric condi tions, as well as to some unintentional oversight in the melting or pouring operations. Only the best grade of metals should be used for the manufacture of nickel and its alloys which are to be used for rolling mill purposes. The copper used may be either lake or electrolytic but, in no instance should that grade of copper known as casting copper be employed. A tough, long-grained grade of spelter practically free from lead or other impurities will be found to give satisfactory results. This book was released on 2018-03-20 with total page 308 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A Practical Guide for the Manufacture of Metallic Alloys Comprising Their Chemical and Physical Properties: With Their Preparation, Composition and Uses A complete work, adequate to the importance of the subject, would require innumerable researches and studies, and one volume would not be sufficient. Yet, it would scarcely be possible to give anything beyond a concise idea of a subject entirely too vast and com plex to be treated in a strict and exact manner. Let us consider all the metals actually employed, from those which are essentially industrial, to the pre cions metals which belong to the arts rather than to industry proper; and up to those modern metals so little known that they still remain exclusively within the limits of scientific investigation. When we see these various metals combining with each other, one by one, two by two, three by three, &c., and in various proportions, we may well ask if it be possible to create a methodical and absolute treatise on alloys. Book The Technical Analysis of Brass and Non Ferrous Alloys Classic Reprint

Download or read book The Technical Analysis of Brass and Non Ferrous Alloys Classic Reprint written by William B. Price and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2015-07-28 with total page 304 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Technical Analysis of Brass, and Non-Ferrous Alloys At the time the first edition of this book was brought out the chemist or metallurgist who wished to find accurate and quick methods for the analysis of the non-ferrous alloys was obliged to look for the various methods as well as the description of special apparatus in the transactions of societies, scientific journals and works on general analytical chemistry, in which the different methods were widely distributed. So far as we are aware this was the first time that any chemists or metallurgists had made an attempt to bring together in one volume a complete treatment of this subject and it was our hope that this little book would take a place in nonferrous chemistry and metallurgy corresponding to the place occupied by Blair's "Chemical Analysis of Iron," in the ferrous metals. In preparing the second edition of our book considerable of the text has been rewritten and many changes made, based on the helpful criticisms of the first edition and an effort has been made to bring this edition strictly up to date. Kutsch and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-03-18 with total page 28 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A New Method for the Separation of Tin, Arsenic and Antimony With Special Reference to Complex Alloys At the present time the manufacture of alloys is very extensive and tin and antimony are not only the chief constituents of various alloys, but form an important factor in other alloys. Copper and zinc can be mixed together within very wide limits to form the brasses. Copper and tin are alloyed to form bronzes, gun metals and bell metals. Alloys in which tin is the chief constituent are chiefly used for bearings and are commonly called Babbit metals. The metal originally consisted of 1 part of copper, 2 of antimony, and 6 of tin, but at present these constituents vary within wide limits and lead, iron, and zinc are also used. Britannia metal is a tin and antimony alloy. Lead is alloyed with antimony to form typemetals, and with arsenic to form shot metals. Perhaps the most important class of alloys is the bearing metals. Experience has shown that alloys of definite composition are best suited to certain purposes, and it has therefore become necessary to accurately determine the constituents of these metals. Various methods have been proposed for the analysis, the most practicable of which are the following. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book The Metallurgy of the Non Ferrous Metals Classic Reprint

Download or read book The Metallurgy of the Non Ferrous Metals Classic Reprint written by William Gowland and published by . This book was released on 2015-08-05 with total page 538 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Metallurgy of the Non-Ferrous Metals In the present volume an effort has been made to supply students and metallurgists with a concise treatise dealing with the principles on which the various processes which concern the non-ferrous metals are based, and with the manner in which the processes are carried out in typical modern works. The general plan followed is to consider under the name of each metal (1) its physical and chemical properties; (2) the alloy of which it is the chief constituent; (3) the composition and applications of commercial brands, and the effects of substances which interfere with those applications; (4) the chief ores and the processes by which the metal is extracted from them or other sources, and refined or made suitable for industrial or other purposes; (5) the principles and conditions on which the success of these processes depend; (6) the furnaces and appliances employed in the processes, and the chemical changes and reactions which occur in the operations; (7) examples of actual practice followed at the present time in important extraction works. Much that is not essential and processes which are obsolete have been omitted, while those which are falling into disuse are only briefly described. In the chapters dealing with gold, silver, copper, and lead special care has been taken to keep pace with the progress which has been made in the metallurgy of these metals, and it is believed that no important modern successful process has been omitted. Many of the illustrations are original, and a considerable number of the others have been selected from papers by well-knowrn metallurgists, the sources in all cases being acknowledged. The aim of the book is not only to help the student, but the author has also in view a wider circle than those merely who are going through a course of metallurgical training, and hopes that others who are actually engaged in practical work may find its pages worth consulting.
