Book Design and Construction of Roller compacted rcc Pavements

Download or read book Design and Construction of Roller compacted rcc Pavements written by and published by . This book was released on 1987 with total page 24 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Roller-compacted concrete (rcc) pavement is a mixture of open graded aggregate portland cement and water which is blended into a homogeneous mass with the consistency of zero-slump concrete and the appearance of damp gravel. this paper describes recent investigations to develop the engineering properties of rcc and presents a procedure for the thickness design of rcc pavements. the procedure requires computation of the allowable pavement stress based on the number of total load applications and computation of the expected pavement stress due to the design wheel loading. the paper also describes changes and improvements in the placing and compaction of rcc pavements to produce the desired physical and performance properties of the pavement. for the covering abstract of the conference see irrd 807058.

Book A Guide for Design and Construction of Roller Compacted Concrete Pavements

Download or read book A Guide for Design and Construction of Roller Compacted Concrete Pavements written by David W. Pittman and published by . This book was released on 1986 with total page 26 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Roller-compacted concrete pavement (RCCP) provides a lower-quality, economical alternative to slipform and fixed-form concrete pavements. It is ideally suited for areas where heavy, low speed vehicles such as tanks or container handlers are the primary users of the pavement. RCCP is constructed by placing a zero-slump portland cement concrete mixture with an asphalt paver and compacting it with several passes of a vibratory roller. By using this construction method, wherein large quantities of concrete can be placed quickly with a minimal amount of labor and equipment, savings of 30 percent over conventional concrete paving methods have been reached. The final RCCP surface is not as smooth as a conventionally constructed concrete pavement, and the surface texture resembles that of an asphaltic concrete pavement surface. Quality control and assurance consist of testing materials going into the concrete, checking the plant calibration regularly, measuring the in situ density of RCCP using a nuclear density gage, checking the smoothness of the finished RCCP with a straight edge, and taking cores to check the pavement strength, density, and thickness. Inspectors at the plant and on the jobsite are vital to ensure that a quality RCCP is being built.

Book Concrete Pavement Design Construction and Performance

Download or read book Concrete Pavement Design Construction and Performance written by Norbert Delatte and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2018-10-08 with total page 391 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Addressing the interactions between the different design and construction variables and techniques this book illustrates best practices for constructing economical, long life concrete pavements. The book proceeds in much the same way as a pavement construction project. First, different alternatives for concrete pavement solutions are outlined. The desired performance and behaviour parameters are identified. Next, appropriate materials are outlined and the most suitable concrete proportions determined. The design can be completed, and then the necessary construction steps for translating the design into a durable facility are carried out. Although the focus reflects highways as the most common application, special features of airport, industrial, and light duty pavements are also addressed. Use is made of modeling and performance tools such as HIPERPAV and LTPP to illustrate behavior and performance, along with some case studies. As concrete pavements are more complex than they seem, and the costs of mistakes or of over-design can be high, this is a valuable book for engineers in both the public and private sectors.

Book Guide for Roller compacted Concrete Pavements

Download or read book Guide for Roller compacted Concrete Pavements written by Dale S. Harrington and published by . This book was released on 2010 with total page 104 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Roller-compacted concrete (RCC) is an economical, fast-construction candidate for many pavement applications. It has traditionally been used for pavements carrying heavy loads in low-speed areas because of its relatively coarse surface. However, in recent years its use has expanded into commercial areas and local streets and highways. This guide provides owner-agencies, contractors, material suppliers, and others with a thorough introduction to RCC and its many applications. Based on current research and best practices, the guide provides detailed overviews of RCC properties and materials, mixture proportioning, structural design, and production and construction considerations, plus troubleshooting guidelines and an extensive reference list for more comprehensive information.
