Book Missional Worship Worshipful Mission

Download or read book Missional Worship Worshipful Mission written by Ruth A. Meyers and published by Wm. B. Eerdmans Publishing. This book was released on 2014-12-12 with total page 256 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Missiology "A robust and practical theology that integrates worship and mission into a seamless whole." Anglican & Episcopal History "A very useful and insightful text. . . . A remarkable synthesis of most of the best insights liturgical scholars and missiologists have gained regarding the relationship between mission and liturgy over the last decades." George R. Hunsberger — Western Theological Seminary "Ruth Meyers brings a deep grasp of what's at stake in the rediscovery of mission as the essence of the church, together with a generous mastery of liturgical traditions, to provide vision for seeing these two dimensions of the church's life as one. . . . This is the handbook that should accompany every Christian community on its worshiping, witnessing journey." Stephen B. Bevans, SVD — Catholic Theological Union "A wonderful, faith-filled meditation on the missional heart of worship. . . . A new classic in liturgical studies and in missiology as well." Todd E. Johnson — Brehm Center, Fuller Theological Seminary "Ruth Meyers's approach to the issues surrounding worship and mission is spot-on. Instead of approaching worship from a missional slant, or mission from a liturgical perspective, she takes both topics back to their biblical and historical roots — the nature of the church. . . . In practical and insightful ways Meyers demonstrates how a church's ministry in the world and its regular offering of worship reinforce one another. Her careful, direct, evenhanded approach is a breath of fresh air to much of the current theological discourse." Taylor W. Burton-Edwards — Worship Resources, Discipleship Ministries of The United Methodist Church "Seminarians, pastors, deacons, and worship leaders seeking to understand, articulate, or imagine how the basic and most enduring structures of Christian worship `engage worshipers in the mission of God' will discover in these pages both Meyers's wise and challenging counsel and many wonderful companions for the journey." International Bulletin of Missionary Research "A helpful and timely new resource. . . . In Missional Worship Meyers does excellent work developing the notion that mission and worship are inseparably and integrally related." Anglican and Episcopal History "A very useful and insightful text, particularly for those just beginning to explore the field of liturgical studies. The book is a remarkable synthesis of most of the best insights liturgical scholars and missiologists have gained regarding the relationship between mission and liturgy over the last decades." Church Times "[Myers] deserves to be read, because we need to hear this message in all parts of the Church of England today."

Download or read book Missional Worship Worshipful Mission written by Ruth A. Meyers and published by Wm. B. Eerdmans Publishing. This book was released on 2014-12-12 with total page 256 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Too many Christians still think that worship is only a Sunday-morning activity done inside the church, while mission involves how the church engages the outside world. But Ruth Meyers argues that a dynamic relationship exists between worship and mission -- that gathering as God s people includes at its heart our being sent out into the world in God s name. Meyers explores this relationship by taking readers through the various parts of the worship service: gathering, proclaiming the Word, praying for the world, celebrating the Eucharist, and going forth to continue participating in God s mission in the world. In each chapter Meyers includes stories of worship practices in different churches and considers how the actions of worship relate integrally to mission. Missional Worship, Worshipful Mission emphasizes that missional worship is not a set of techniques but rather an approach to worship and congregational life in which God s mission permeates every aspect of what the church does.

Download or read book Missional Spirituality written by Roger Helland and published by InterVarsity Press. This book was released on 2012-01-20 with total page 257 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: If all of the earth is God's domain, why are Christians so terribly provincial? We rarely leave our church buildings, and our spirituality rarely takes us beyond ourselves. Veteran church leaders Roger Helland and Leonard Hjalmarson observe that Jesus begins his mission in the temple, where he wows the religious elite and chides his parents by saying, "Didn't you know I had to be in my Father's house?" But Jesus doesn't stay in the temple; indeed, in Christ the temple of the Lord is on the move--even to the ends of the earth. In this book the authors helpfully reconnect spirituality and mission, showing you how the spiritual life, when lived properly, follows a similar progression: we "come home" to Christ, loving him from our heart and soul and mind and strength. And then we set forth to love our neighbors as ourself. Discover how through this process you can reclaim the whole of God's kingdom for his glory and the fulfillment of your heart's longing.

Book Breaking the Missional Code

Download or read book Breaking the Missional Code written by Ed Stetzer and published by B&H Publishing Group. This book was released on 2006-05-01 with total page 260 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Across North America, many pastors are excited to see churches growing as they achieve their mission to connect the message of the gospel with the community at large. Still others are equally frustrated, following the exact same model for outreach but with lesser results. Indeed, just because a "missional breakthrough" occurs in one place doesn’t mean it will happen the same way elsewhere. One size does not fit all, but there are cultural codes that must be broken for all churches to grow and remain effective in their specific mission context. Breaking the Missional Code provides expert insight on church culture and church vision casting, plus case studies of successful missional churches impacting their communities. "We have to recognize there are cultural barriers (in addition to spiritual ones) that blind people from understanding the gospel," the authors write. "Our task is to find the right way to break through those cultural barriers without removing the spiritual and theological ones."

Book Toward a Theology and Practice of Missional Worship

Download or read book Toward a Theology and Practice of Missional Worship written by Daniel Collison and published by . This book was released on 2009 with total page 308 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It was the goal of this study to explore the role of evangelism in the context of corporate worship. It argues that evangelical churches in North America must rethink their current strategies for corporate worship in light of the Church's increasingly liminal position in society and missteps concerning the Worship Evangelism movement, and proposes a theology and practice for missional worship that is intrinsically tied to the mission of Jesus Christ. The first section focuses on the current profiles of worship in the American evangelical church. It compares key denominational and non-denominational statistics while specifically determining how worship contexts interact with mission. Also discussed is the relationship of generational identity to the expansion of worship styles and choices, the assessment of the Worship Evangelism movement and its statistical failure, key problems with embedded theology, and the impact of postmodernism on all aspects of worship design. The second section concentrates on the biblical and theological foundations of worship and mission in an effort to establish their collaborative relationship. It draws from Scripture and Christian tradition, and it proposes a theology for twenty-first-century missional worship. The third section addresses the critical concerns of defining context and establishing a clear worship mission. Integral to this work are four "framing" elements of missional worship to guide the whole process: a God Focus, a Kingdom Expression, a Community Experience, and a Future Vision. Statistics presented in this paper confirm that the "worship-driven" evangelism philosophy is ineffective in reaching the unchurched, but successful in attracting transfer Christians from neighboring churches not able to compete with expensive worship productions. In response to this failure, the study challenges churches to pursue a worship mission by refocusing key theological and philosophical rubrics. The project further suggests that evangelical churches move toward a theology and practice of missional worship by defining their mission, defining a specific worship mission, exploring the worship spectrum, and expanding their overall worship paradigm.

Download or read book The Worship Pastor written by Zac M. Hicks and published by Zondervan. This book was released on 2016-10-11 with total page 221 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Modern worship leaders are restless. They have inherited a model of leadership that equates leading worship with being a rock star. But leading worship is more than a performance, it's about shaping souls and making disciples. Every worship leader is really a pastor. The Worship Pastor is a practical and biblical introduction to this essential pastoral role. Filled with engaging, illustrative stories it is organized to address questions of theory and practice, striving to balance conversational accessibility with informed instruction. Part One presents a series of evocative "vignettes"--intriguing and descriptive titles and metaphors of who a Worship Pastor is and what he or she does. It shows the Worship Pastor as Church-Lover, Disciple Maker, Corporate Mystic, and Doxological Philosopher. Part Two covers specific roles related to ministry within the worship service itself--the Worship Pastor as Theological Dietician, Caregiver, Mortician, Emotional Shepherd, War General, Prophetic Guardian, Missional Historian, and Liturgical Architect. Part Three looks at ministry beyond the worship service--the Worship Pastor as Visionary Teacher, Evangelist, Artist Chaplain, and Team Leader. While some worship leaders are eager to embrace their pastoral role, many are lost and confused or lack the resources of time or money to figure out what this role looks like. Pastor Zac Hicks gives us a clear guide to leading worship, one that takes the pastoral call seriously.

Book excerpt: The twenty-first-century church cannot afford to neglect mission. When church and culture no longer share a common outlook, the only way forward is mission. Pope Francis recognizes this in his call for a missionary conversion of the church. Responding to this invitation, is a constructive work in ecclesiology addressing the relationship between liturgy and mission in the church's life. It advances a notion of the church grounded in both liturgy and mission, where neither is subordinated to nor collapsed into the other. The church's liturgical rites disclose and enact the church's identity as a missionary community. Close examination of the sources at the heart of traditional communion ecclesiology: Trinitarian theology, the sacraments of initiation, and eucharistic theology, yields an ecclesiology in which the church is constituted by both liturgy and mission. These are two distinct ways of participating in the triune life of God, which is revealed in the paschal mystery. The church's pilgrimage to God's kingdom takes it through the world in mission. The church, as the body of Christ, is given away to God and to the world, for the world's salvation. The result is a contemporary restatement of traditional ecclesiology, transposed into a missional key.
