Book Young Minds Mission Protect Mother Earth from Climate Change

Download or read book Young Minds Mission Protect Mother Earth from Climate Change written by Nirmal Melam and published by Young Minds Mission Foundation. This book was released on 2023-10-15 with total page 304 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Embark on a transformative journey through the complex realm of climate change with "Young Minds Mission: Protecting Mother Earth from Climate Change: A Comprehensive Guide for Young Explorers." This book demonstrates the author’s unwavering commitment to climate awareness and resilience. "Protecting Mother Earth from Climate Change" serves as a catalyst for empowering young explorers with a sense of urgency and collective responsibility. By engaging with this book, readers become catalysts for change, amplifying the call for climate action in schools, communities, and beyond. Your purchase of this book directly supports nonprofit organizations dedicated to climate change mitigation, maximizing the impact of collective contributions. Together, we can forge a greener, more resilient world for future generations. Climate change is one of the most important issues of our time. As Nirmal Melam’s book, "Young Minds Mission: Protecting Mother Earth from Climate Change” illustrates, it affects us all. Its impacts are especially important for young people, as they will inherit the world from their elders and have to deal with all the facets of changing climate far into the future. It is never too early to start learning about Earth’s climate, our role in causing climate to change, and how we might best respond to the impacts of climate change. In that light, this book is timely and important. Young Minds Mission has laid out all of this information in language that speaks to our youth, although it is also in language that all can appreciate. As Young Minds Mission shows, Nirmal and his friend Kartikeya has worked hard to develop that understanding. The questions at the end of each chapter invites thinking about and discussing the topics presented. Thus, Young Minds Mission promotes not blind acceptance of what is given, but instead it fosters dialogue and discussion. That dialogue among all of us is vital, for it allows the information presented here to inspire appropriate actions, but not overreaction. Overreacting to climate change could lead to implementing costly measures that do little to protect our world; overreacting can undermine efforts to produce a better future. Equally important, the climate information presented here shows a way forward to a sustainable future that supports us all. In doing so, the chapters in Young Minds Mission provide a basic action with a view of what our future can be. Having such a view is vital, for the challenge of global climate change might seem daunting. Some people might ask: how can I possibly do anything useful on this problem? That attitude could produce a sense of hopelessness and despair. Instead, with the clear presentation of the changes that are occurring, Young Minds Mission shows where we all must work to protect each other while also showing us how we can stop the damaging change from growing worse and worse. Instead, we are given a foundation for hope and a call to action to realize the promise of that hope. Climate change does affect us all, and each with our individual energy and understanding of the world can make a better future.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Sit Room brings you inside the secretive Situation Room of the White House, the most important deliberative room in the world, during the early 1990s when the author was one of the policymakers who framed the Clinton Administration's policy towards the bloody Balkans War. Drawing upon newly declassified documents and his own notes, David Scheffer, who later became America's first Ambassador-at-Large for War Crimes Issues, weaves the true story of how policy options were debated in the Sit Room among the highest national security officials. The road to a final peace deal in late 1995 came at the high price of the murderous siege of Sarajevo and ethnic cleansing of mostly Bosnian Muslims from their homes and towns, including the genocide of Srebrenica's men and teenage boys. The Sit Room reveals the behind-the-scenes story about how American policy evolved--often futilely--to try to stop an intractable war and its shocking atrocities. Main actors in the Sit Room include: the assertive Ambassador to the United Nations, Madeleine Albright; the State Department's ace negotiator, Richard Holbrooke; the cerebral National Security Adviser, Tony Lake; the immigrant Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, John Shalikashvili; the bulldog Deputy National Security Adviser, Sandy Berger; and White House moralist, David Gergen. For almost three years, the Sit Room was littered with shattered proposals to end the war-until armed force backed up diplomacy to compel a fragile peace deal. The Sit Room reveals authentic policy-making at the highest levels, with a unique journey into the arena of war and peace where spirited debate guided America's foreign policy.

Book Coco De Mer

Download or read book Coco De Mer written by Mohamed Adly and published by Mohamed Adly. This book was released on with total page 145 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A fiction story about Camellia , or Coco as her family and close friends used to call her. She had been suffering from a chronic depression since she got married to Shawkat thirty five years ago. They had spent their honeymoon in Seychelles and had bought a Coco De Mer seed as a souvenir. That seed was unlike any other ones; it came from special trees that had a spiritual value for a kingdom of unseen creatures. That the master of the kingdom appointed a keeper for each of those unique seeds, to remain with it wherever it might go and to protect it from any danger or misuse. Mer was the keeper of the seed that Shawkat and Camellia had bought. Mer fell in love with Camellia ever since he saw her in her honeymoon. While the rules of his kingdom considered the falling in love with a human being to be forbidden. Then , Mer appeared first time to Camellia as one of the hotel staff in Seychelles during her honeymoon when she was nineteen years old ,and gifted her on behalf of that hotel a bouquet of flowers. This appearance was also not allowed according to the laws of his kingdom. As those laws allowed them to appear only for good reasons , while his love for Camellia was an evil itself . By committing those two mistakes, his love for Camellia and his appearance for her, Mer lost some of his powers. Mer was always sad and was suffering because of Camellia's sufferings . He couldn't, for a reason, help her but he could help Shawkat instead to be healed from the short memory loss that he had been suffering from, as his case reflected on Camellia and made her unhappy as well. When Shawkat and Camellia traveled once again to Seychelles after thirty five years, Mer and his grandmother appeared to them as vendors of natural herbs . The grandmother made a recipe for Shawkat that helped him to be healed and he restored back his full memory. The recipe was the main cause of shocking and unexpected events that dramatically affected all their lives.

Book Just Peace After Conflict

  • Author : Carsten Stahn

Download or read book Just Peace After Conflict written by Carsten Stahn and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2020-09-05 with total page 380 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The interplay between peace and justice plays an important role in any contemporary conflict. Peace can be described in a variety ways, as being 'negative' or 'positive', 'liberal' or 'democratic'. But what is it that makes a peace just? This book draws together leading scholars to study this concept of a 'just peace', analysing different elements of the transition from conflict to peace. The volume covers six core themes: conceptual approaches towards just peace, macro-principles, the nexus to security and stability, protection of persons and public goods, rule of law, and economic reform and accountability. Contributions engage with understudied issues, such as the pros and cons of robust UN mandates, the link between environmental protection and indigenous peoples, the treatment of illegal settlements, the feasibility of vetting practices, and the protection of labour rights in post-conflict economies. Overall, the book puts forward a case that just peace requires not only negotiation, agreement, and compromise, but contextual understandings of law, multiple dimensions of justice, and strategies of prevention. Book Homeland Security and Critical Infrastructure Protection

Download or read book Homeland Security and Critical Infrastructure Protection written by Ryan K. Baggett and published by Bloomsbury Publishing USA. This book was released on 2018-07-11 with total page 433 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A compelling overview of systems and strategies implemented to safeguard U.S. resources from a plethora of threats, the vulnerabilities and security gaps in these infrastructure systems, and options to enable the future security of the homeland. Since the first edition of this book was published in 2009, significant changes have occurred in the security landscape, both domestically and internationally. This second edition is thoroughly updated to reflect those changes, offering a complete review of the various security and resilience measures currently in place and potential strategies to safeguard life and property within the U.S. homeland. As noted in the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's National Preparedness Goal, the mission area of protection is vital to the homeland in its focus on actions to protect people, vital interests, and our nation's way of life. With that in mind, this book discusses strategies such as risk analysis and assessment, information sharing, and continuity planning. The authors focus on relevant and timely threats and hazards facing specific infrastructure components including, but not limited to, agriculture and food, banking and finance, water, energy, telecommunications, and transportation. The dynamic posture of critical infrastructure security and resilience (CISR) underscores the importance of an integrated, layered all-hazards approach. In describing this approach, the book includes new chapters on planning and guidance, public and private partnerships, cyber issues and threats, and careers in infrastructure protection. Additions such as discussion questions, learning objectives, and fundamental concepts for each chapter provide additional direction for instructors and students alike.

Book The Responsibility to Protect

Download or read book The Responsibility to Protect written by Alex J. Bellamy and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2018-12-05 with total page 324 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 2005, the international community made a landmark commitment to prevent mass atrocities by unanimously adopting the UN’s “Responsibility to Protect” (R2P) principle. As often as not, however, R2P has failed to translate into decisive action. Why does this gap persist between the world’s normative pledges to R2P and its ability to make it a daily lived reality? In this new book, leading global authorities on humanitarian protection Alex Bellamy and Edward Luck offer a probing and in-depth response to this fundamental question, calling for a more comprehensive approach to the practice of R2P – one that moves beyond states and the UN to include the full range of actors that play a role in protecting vulnerable populations. Drawing on cases from the Middle East to sub-Saharan Africa and Southeast Asia, they examine the forces and conditions that produce atrocity crimes and the challenge of responding to them quickly and effectively. Ultimately, they advocate both for emergency policies to temporarily stop carnage and for policies leading to sustainable change within societies and governments. Only by introducing these additional elements to the R2P toolkit will the failures associated with humanitarian crises like Syria and Libya become a thing of the past.

Download or read book Small Boats and Daring Men written by Benjamin Armstrong and published by University of Oklahoma Press. This book was released on 2019-04-18 with total page 277 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Two centuries before the daring exploits of Navy SEALs and Marine Raiders captured the public imagination, the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps were already engaged in similarly perilous missions: raiding pirate camps, attacking enemy ships in the dark of night, and striking enemy facilities and resources on shore. Even John Paul Jones, father of the American navy, saw such irregular operations as critical to naval warfare. With Jones’s own experience as a starting point, Benjamin Armstrong sets out to take irregular naval warfare out of the shadow of the blue-water battles that dominate naval history. This book, the first historical study of its kind, makes a compelling case for raiding and irregular naval warfare as key elements in the story of American sea power. Beginning with the Continental Navy, Small Boats and Daring Men traces maritime missions through the wars of the early republic, from the coast of modern-day Libya to the rivers and inlets of the Chesapeake Bay. At the same time, Armstrong examines the era’s conflicts with nonstate enemies and threats to American peacetime interests along Pacific and Caribbean shores. Armstrong brings a uniquely informed perspective to his subject; and his work—with reference to original naval operational reports, sailors’ memoirs and diaries, and officers’ correspondence—is at once an exciting narrative of danger and combat at sea and a thoroughgoing analysis of how these events fit into concepts of American sea power. Offering a critical new look at the naval history of the Early American era, this book also raises fundamental questions for naval strategy in the twenty-first century.
