This book was released on 2016-11-05 with total page 58 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: I N the summer of 1610, three centuries ago, the Order of the Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary was founded in Savoy. It may be considered justly as the joint creation of two great saints, St. Francis de Sales and St. Jane Frances de Chantal, although according to the depositions made by the latter during the process of canonisation of the former and many times repeated, the holy Bishop of Geneva, Saint Francis de Sales alone was always regarded as the true founder by the first religious of the Order. As might be expected, the work thus begun by these two heroic souls under God's inspiration was from the first blessed by Him in a remarkable way. Like the grain of mustard seed in the Gospel parable, which from being the least of all seeds grew to a tree in whose branches the birds of the air found shelter, the humble beginnings made in the little house of La Galerie at Annecy, in Savoy, prospered and spread till its branches now flourishing in all parts of the world afford shelter to those who seek to serve God according to the wise and broad-minded legislation which so admirably reflects the spirit of the two saintly founders. To understand the secret attraction which the houses of the Visitation Order exercise over the minds of those who have received God's call to serve Him according to this special fornl of religious life, it is necessary to know something of the origin of the Order, and to appreciate the supernatural principles which animated St. Francis de Sales and his spiritual daughter, St. Jane Frances, and which are reflected in it.

St. Francis de Sales explains how to turn that desire for sanctity into resolutions that yield grace-filled results. Themes include: Pursuing a devout life whole-heartedly Incorporating prayer and sacraments into a busy schedule Growing in virtue Battling wisely against temptation Making spiritual progress through daily, monthly, and yearly exercises Whether you are just beginning your spiritual journey or are more advanced in the spiritual life, you’ll be able to apply this timeless wisdom immediately. Let St. Francis de Sales illumine the path to holiness and strengthen your desire to walk that road with the Lord. St. Francis de Sales (1567–1622) was the Bishop of Geneva and a renowned spiritual director. Preaching during the Counter-Reformation, he is estimated to have converted 70,000 Calvinists in his short lifetime. He was a fervent proponent of the universal call to holiness and spent much of his time guiding lay people on the road to sanctity. Declared a Doctor of the Church by Pope Pius IX in 1877, St. Francis is still helping to form saints through his many writings, of which Introduction to the Devout Life is the most famous.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Only 2 in 10 Americans under 30 believe attending a church is important or worthwhile. Well over half of young adults raised in the Church have dropped out with many having a strong anti-Church stance, many even believing the Church does more harm than good.Fr. Josh Johnson was one of these people. In Broken and Blessed he tackles the harsh realities facing the Church in the 21st century. With charity and courage he speaks to his own generation of Catholic “Millennials,” who often feel their needs and concerns are not being addressed by the Church, or who simply do not believe the Catholic Faith has any relevance to their lives. Using his own experiences, both as a former struggling young Catholic and as a priest, Fr. Josh offers an inspiring witness of how he came to know God, rather than just knowing about him—and presents practical ways for us to truly know God as well. Broken and Blessed: Addresses head-on Millennials’ most pressing issues with the Catholic Faith Presents powerful and inspiring stories from Fr. Josh’s own faith journey Shows how one can truly encounter Jesus in a personal way Offers practical insights on how to overcome habitual sins Discusses the nature of prayer, as well as the challenges to prayer and how to overcome them

Book excerpt: In the wake of the French Revolution and other upheavals, Don Bosco (1815–1888) and other nineteenth-century founders and spiritual leaders contributed to the development of spiritual practices and perspectives on the Christian life that have been described as the “Salesian Pentecost.” Here are translations of and commentaries on the little-known spiritual writings of Don Bosco, his collaborators, and his contemporaries involved in the Salesian Pentecost. These diverse persons, fully engaged in apostolic ministry or occupied with the demands of ordinary life as lay women and men, were at the same time engaged in conscious spiritual practices that sought the interior exchange of the heart of Jesus for the human heart.
