The families of the long-term missing find themselves stuck in a nightmare, clinging to the hope that their loved one will be found alive while being forced to accept the fact that they are most likely dead and praying for closure. This book contains case summaries of some of Pennsylvania's most baffling unsolved missing person cases. Download or read book The Disappearance of Ray Gricar written by Pete Dove and published by Trellis Publishing. This book was released on 2021-07 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Some problems become more troublesome the longer they are left. The aching molar which remains untended; the lawn which is left uncut. The same might be said of the case of Ray Gricar. Although, of course, the disappearance and possible death of a man, one with a high local profile, is much more serious than sore teeth or an unkempt yard. Gricar was last seen on Friday April 15th 2005. It was a glorious day - one of the first of the year in which Spring had lightened the sky and warmed the air. Gricar had awoken at the normal time. He was living with his girlfriend, Patty Fornicola, in his comfortable Bellefonte, Pennsylvania home. What happened to Ray Gricar?

Book Marple s Gretchen Harrington Tragedy

Download or read book Marple s Gretchen Harrington Tragedy written by Mike Mathis and published by Arcadia Publishing. This book was released on 2022-10-31 with total page 112 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Friday, Aug. 15, 1975 began as a typical summer day in the suburbs. Young children played with their friends, adults prepared for work or planned for their vacation at the Jersey Shore... That all changed in the hours before noon, when Gretchen Harrington, the 8-year-old daughter of a Presbyterian minister and his wife, was kidnapped while walking to a vacation Bible school less than a quarter-mile from her house. Her body was found by a jogger in a state park nearly two months later. The crime forever changed the lives of the children who were near Gretchen's age and their parents, many of whom chose to live in Marple Township because they considered it a safe refuge from the crime-ridden streets of Philadelphia. strongJournalists Mike Mathis and Joanna Falcone Sullivan examine the kidnapping, murder and the nearly five-decade long investigation through rare access to police files in what is still considered an open investigation.

Book The Prevention and Treatment of Missing Data in Clinical Trials

Download or read book The Prevention and Treatment of Missing Data in Clinical Trials written by National Research Council and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2010-12-21 with total page 163 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Randomized clinical trials are the primary tool for evaluating new medical interventions. Randomization provides for a fair comparison between treatment and control groups, balancing out, on average, distributions of known and unknown factors among the participants. Unfortunately, these studies often lack a substantial percentage of data. This missing data reduces the benefit provided by the randomization and introduces potential biases in the comparison of the treatment groups. Missing data can arise for a variety of reasons, including the inability or unwillingness of participants to meet appointments for evaluation. And in some studies, some or all of data collection ceases when participants discontinue study treatment. Existing guidelines for the design and conduct of clinical trials, and the analysis of the resulting data, provide only limited advice on how to handle missing data. Thus, approaches to the analysis of data with an appreciable amount of missing values tend to be ad hoc and variable. The Prevention and Treatment of Missing Data in Clinical Trials concludes that a more principled approach to design and analysis in the presence of missing data is both needed and possible. Such an approach needs to focus on two critical elements: (1) careful design and conduct to limit the amount and impact of missing data and (2) analysis that makes full use of information on all randomized participants and is based on careful attention to the assumptions about the nature of the missing data underlying estimates of treatment effects. In addition to the highest priority recommendations, the book offers more detailed recommendations on the conduct of clinical trials and techniques for analysis of trial data.
