L’examen clinique et radiologique doivent être rigoureux afin de connaître la voie d’abord chirurgical de la dent. L’étape du collage est primordial, le praticien se trouve souvent confronté au décollement du système d’attache qui compromet le bon déroulement du traitement. Notamment, les particularités histologiques des dents incluses, la persistance de la cuticule de NASMYTH ainsi que le maintien du champ opératoire à l’abri du sang rendent difficile le collage. La mécanique orthodontique doit être étudiée au préalable afin de permettre à la dent de faire éruption sans risque de léser les dents voisines. Enfin, dans une recherche de simplification du système de traction, nous proposons un système simple à réaliser et efficace, qui implique le respect rigoureux du protocole de collage et d’une conception orthodontique réfléchie afin de garantir le succès de la traction de la canine.

In the meantime, methods and techniques for injecting contrast media into various vessels have become largely standardized; innumerable publications have appeared which deal with every conceivable aspect of angiographic technique and interpretation. This volume is designed to present our experience with abdominal angiography. We deliberately refrained from any systematic discussion of the genitourinary tract, which has been adequately dealt with in the literature, also with respect to angiographic findings. Our interest in the retroperitoneal region is based mainly on its significance in differential diagnosis. In ten years of angiographic activity, our Department had made successful use of a simple technique which appears suitable also for smaller hospitals. We wish to point out its diagnostic potential and, at the same time, to outline its limitations. Our experience embraces 2804 abdominal angiograms, which we have classified according to clinical and morphologic anatomical criteria. Their diagnostic interpretation has been compared with the surgical or histopathological results. This may help others to avoid errors of the type which we discovered in our own work. Angiographic diagnosis requires not only familiarity with normal radiographic anatomy, but also specific knowledge of angiographic patho morphology. We have tried to identify those features which typify the individual findings and to derive therefrom valid generalizations with the aid of simple sketches.

About 100 species have been reported from humans, usually producing asymptomatic infection or mild symptoms. However, about 20 species are of public health importance causing severe or even fatal infections. In many parts of Africa parasitic helminths are responsible for enormous economic losses, hampering rural development programmes and reducing the pace of economic growth. Many parasitic helminths are either zoonoses (diseases naturally transmitted between vertebrate animals and man) or have evolved from animal parasites. The modification of the environment through wars, famine and the ever expanding and increasingly mobile human population brings people into close contact with new environments and wildlife species which makes the study and control of zoonoses of special interest and complexity. In Africa, the transmission of helminth parasites is highly influenced by the ever changing social and cultural differences between diverse groups of peoples and their interaction with wild and domestic animals. It is not surprising, therefore, that approaches to the study and control of parasitic zoonoses require intersectoral cooperation between physicians, veterinarians, parasitologists, zoologists, demographers, anthropologists, engineers and economists to provide the breadth of knowledge and expertise required to develop our understanding of these diseases and to devise methods for their control. This book provides a selective compilation of parasitic helminths, many of which are zoonoses which create important economic and public health problems in Africa.
