Book Miraculous Moments

Download or read book Miraculous Moments written by Elissa Al-Chokhachy and published by Llewellyn Worldwide. This book was released on 2010-09-08 with total page 156 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Does life continue after death? Will we ever be reunited with loved ones? Does love ever die? Heartfelt testimony to the eternal nature of the human spirit can be found in this collection of eighty-eight true stories from people who have seen, heard, and felt love from their family, friends, and acquaintances in spirit. The author, a hospice nurse, shares the wisdom she has gained from nearly twenty years of working with the dying and bereaved. Told with courage and warmth, these vivid firsthand accounts—of receiving signs, messages, and even hugs from family members who have crossed over; encounters with angels; near-death experiences; and visits from the spirits of beloved pets—offer hope, reassurance, and comfort to anyone who is mourning a lost loved one or has ever wondered if life goes on. Praise: "Miraculous Moments will help many who need reassurance that life is a circle and the best is yet to come."—Louis E. LaGrand, PhD, CT, Bereavement Counselor and author of Love Lives On and Messages and Miracles "The personal stories are well written and sincere. Very compelling."— Robert D. Lessle, MD, Author of Angels in the ER "Miraculous Moments is such a beautiful and easy read, but one that asks you to sit quietly, to breathe in the Spirit of each encounter with God and then to meditate on its message for a good long while. This is not a book that one reads only once, or all at once, but rather one that draws us back, time and again, for the nourishment it offers through each and every story. The all powerful, all loving, infinite Creator of the Universe makes His presence known in the most simple and exquisite ways, over and over again throughout Miraculous Moments. He remains gently hidden in a flower, a chance meeting, a beautiful sunset and the heartfelt language of love, spoken between friends."— Trudy Harris, RN, Author of Glimpses of Heaven: True Stories of Hope and Peace at the ENd of Life's Journey "Not only does this book offer hope and consolation for the grieving, it provokes thought on the finality of death as society generally views it."—Library Journal

Book No Ordinary Game

Download or read book No Ordinary Game written by Kirk Westphal and published by Down East Books. This book was released on 2015-06-01 with total page 237 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A young boy nearly paralyzed in a car accident runs for the first time in his life during a baseball game. A refugee family from despoiled East Africa plays soccer in my suburban backyard on Thanksgiving Day. A group of college boys is challenged to a game of basketball against the women’s varsity team in an empty gym, then another on a tough inner city court. I hit the first homerun of my life when I am thirty-three years old. These are Ordinary Games. This is a book of pure inspiration. Many of the sporting world’s most profound achievements and displays of humanity are never recorded. They happen on sandlots, asphalt, and backyards. Stories of well-known athletes and teams abound in popular literature – what is missing is an exaltation of the moments that can happen to any of the rest of us - and do. Ordinary Games is the grandstand for everyday miracles. This is an inspirational book that shows how any one of us can transcend possibility or lighten life’s burdens simply by picking up a ball. It is a collection of poignant memoirs of games played without grandstands. Some of the stories relive everyday miracles, while others find the souls of players ascending into the spirits of the games they play. They tell of the glory, despair, and humanity that can be found any afternoon or evening, at any playground, gym, or empty field. The tone is frequently humorous, but the tenor is deeply and genuinely human. While the primary themes involve overcoming impossible odds, secondary themes focus on overcoming common misperceptions. Throughout the narrative, these pieces explore racial and gender divides (including a history of violent separatism) with subtlety, grace, realization, respect, and the common language of competition. The vantage point is wholly familiar, yet new and fresh. My voice is that of a mediocre athlete who can hold his own (but to save his life cannot run fast), and whose sensibilities ignite when the game is on. This familiarity and intensity let readers watch and play at the same time, and hardly notice the difference. Something in each chapter has happened to them, too, and is worth remembering.

Book Negative Geographies

Download or read book Negative Geographies written by David Bissell and published by U of Nebraska Press. This book was released on 2021-11 with total page 391 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Negative Geographies is the first edited collection to chart the political, conceptual, and ethical consequences of how the underexplored problem of the negative might be posed for contemporary cultural geography. Using a variety of case studies and empirical investigations, these chapters consider how the negative, through annihilations, gaps, ruptures, and tears, can work within or against the terms of affirmationism. The collection opens up new avenues through which key problems of cultural geography might be differently posed and points to the ways that it might be possible and desirable to think, theorize, and exemplify negation.

Book Vasily Zhukovsky s Romanticism and the Emotional History of Russia

Download or read book Vasily Zhukovsky s Romanticism and the Emotional History of Russia written by Ilya Vinitsky and published by Northwestern University Press. This book was released on 2015-05-31 with total page 603 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The first major study in English of Vasily Zhukovsky (1783–1852)—poet, translator of German romantic verse, and mentor of Pushkin—this book brings overdue attention to an important figure in Russian literary and cultural history. Vinitsky’s “psychological biography” argues that Zhukovsky very consciously set out to create for himself an emotional life reflecting his unique brand of romanticism, different from what we associate with Pushkin or poets such as Byron or Wordsworth. For Zhukovsky, ideal love was harmonious, built on a mystical foundation of spiritual kinship. Vinitsky shows how Zhukovksy played a pivotal role in the evolution of ideas central to Russia’s literary and cultural identity from the end of the eighteenth century into the decades following the Napoleonic Wars.

Download or read book Afraid of All the Things written by Scarlet Hiltibidal and published by B&H Publishing Group. This book was released on 2019-01-15 with total page 272 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What does the gospel say about your fears? What does it say about the irrational ones, like sinkholes in the Target parking lot? How does it speak to the rational ones, like pet scan predictions? And does the gospel have a word for the fears you feel you'll have for life, like the possibility of losing the one you love most? Growing up in the green room of SNL, being born to a fire-eater and adopted by a SWAT cop, having internal organs explode, and adopting a deaf girl from China, Scarlet Hiltibidal has been given some strange life experiences—and lived in fear through most of them. But life changed for Scarlet when she learned to hold the gospel up to her fears. She realized that though she can't fix herself or protect herself, Jesus walked into this broken, sad, scary place to rescue, love, and cast out her—and your—fear. Seeing life in light of the cross will help you avoid fear, overcome fear when you can’t avoid it, and live beyond fear when you don’t overcome it. You don't have to be afraid of all the things.

Book Liminal Spaces

  • Author : Alex Ramon
  • Publisher : Cambridge Scholars Publishing
  • Release : 2009-10-02
  • ISBN : 1443815101
  • Pages : 205 pages

Download or read book Liminal Spaces written by Alex Ramon and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2009-10-02 with total page 205 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book offers a comprehensive reassessment of the work of Carol Shields. Arguing against enduring conceptions of Shields’s fiction as celebratory domestic miniaturism, the study presents her work as more expansive and equivocal than has sometimes been recognised, reading her texts as “liminal spaces” situated on a series of formal and thematic borders. Close attention is paid to Shields’s stylistic experimentation, to her subversions of auto/biography and historiography, and to the significance of her critical writing, while works which have previously received very little analysis, such as her early poetry collections, are also examined. Intertextual links between Shields’s work and that of a range of other writers including Phillip Larkin, Iris Murdoch, Alice Munro and Margaret Atwood are identified and explored, and the study also draws extensively on manuscript materials which give an insight into Shields’s working methods and extend debate about her experiments with narrative perspective and genre-mixing.
