Book In the Realm of Miracles and Visions

Download or read book In the Realm of Miracles and Visions written by E. Randall Floyd and published by Harbor House (GA). This book was released on 2006 with total page 266 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Whenever something out of the ordinary happens-a hail-Mary pass that scores the winning touchdown, an unexpected windfall of cash, a phone call from a long-lost friend, a biopsy that comes back negative-we call it a miracle. Do miracles really happen? Throughout history, people of all cultural and religious backgrounds have believed in miracles. From Constantine's vision of the Cross at Milvian Bridge to the Star of Bethlehem that heralded the rise of a new messiah, great empires and religions have flowered and faltered based on perceived miracles and visions. While skeptics might argue that miraculous happenings are nothing more or less than mere coincidence, believers say they are the work of God. In his remarkable new book, In the Realm of Miracles & Visions, best-selling author E. Randall Floyd explores the fascinating truth behind some of the most famous miracles and visions in history, including the following: Stigmata: Wounds of Passion, Weeping Madonnas & Bleeding Statues, Bilocation, the Holy Fire of Jerusalem, Laying on of Hands, the Prophecies at Fatima and Lourdes, the Spear of Destiny, the Star of Bethlehem, Signs, Wonders & Prophecies, Miraculous Survivals, Angels in Blue & Gray, the Shroud of Turin, the Gift of the Veil-Born, the Blood of Christ, Minds & Hands that Heal, Flying Priests & Nuns, Portals to the Hereafter, Crosses of Light, Speaking in Tongues: the "Language of the Angels", Healing Waters, Sacred Apparitions, Sacred Woman in Blue, Miracle at Medjugorje, Tears of Blood. In this startling and thought-provoking new book, you will discover not only how miracles and visions have affected the lives of millions of ordinary people the world over, but also how miraculous events have changed the course of history. Download or read book Vision Stories written by John E. Sumwalt and published by CSS Publishing. This book was released on 2002 with total page 181 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: * What if Moses had never told anyone about the burning bush? * What if Paul had kept quiet about his experience on the road to Damascus? * What if John had never written a word of what he saw during his exile on Patmos? The Bible is filled with mystical stories, yet modern culture is often uncomfortable with the concept of spiritual visions. Though a recent study showed that as many as 44% of Americans have had some sort of mystical experience, people are frequently hesitant to share holy moments that might seem strange to others. But John Sumwalt discovered that whenever a small group is gathered together and a vision story is told, two or three others will recount a similar episode. Almost everyone has either a personal vision story or knows of a friend's experience -- and if they know that its sacredness will be honored, most people want to tell their story. This remarkable collection shares 69 authentic, life-changing narratives that witness to the Lord's power and presence. Many of these intensely personal accounts have never been told before, and whether they concern visions, healing, or answers to prayer, they all demonstrate our spiritual thirst, as well as the indescribable joy, comfort, and peace that comes from encountering the divine. Each illustrates a scripture passage from Cycle B of the Revised Common Lectionary -- so Vision Stories is an especially valuable resource for lectionary preaching. But even more, it's inspiring reading for personal devotion and spiritual growth. This wonderful collection of stories reminds us of a fact our world desperately needs to know -- that God is alive and well and ready to be at work in our daily lives. J. Ellsworth Kalas Author of New Testament Stories from the Back Side John Sumwalt has given us a treasury of God's meetings with the daily lives of people. Too often we think of God as hidden away in the stories of the Bible. Here we see God now encountering people in surprising ways of grace. May these stories encourage us to tell one another our stories of God's meetings with us as well. Dwight Judy Author of Quest for the Mystical Christ I am very impressed with Vision Stories as a resource for preaching, teaching, and spiritual formation reading. These stories help us to meet what may be the greatest spiritual need of our time -- to know and to share the experience of the reality of God and the spiritual realm in a materialistic world. Charles R. Gipson Author of The Three-Year Community for Spiritual Formation Through stories and scriptural comparisons, Sumwalt offers insight into the extraordinary spiritual experiences of ordinary people. Cheryl Kirking Author of Ripples of Joy A noted storyteller, John E. Sumwalt is the senior pastor of Wauwatosa Avenue United Methodist Church in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The author of CSS' acclaimed Lectionary Stories series, Sumwalt leads seminars and retreats on sharing and understanding visions.

Book The Miracle of the Illumination of All Consciences

Download or read book The Miracle of the Illumination of All Consciences written by Thomas W. Petrisko and published by St. Andrews Productions. This book was released on 2000-05 with total page 164 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From as far back as the 16th century, when St. Edmund Campion of England spoke of ?a great day that would reveal all men's consciences, ? a coming day of enlightenment has been foretold. Known as the ?Warning? or the ?Mini-Judgment?, it is purported to be a day in which God will supernaturally illuminate the conscience of every man, woman, and child on earth. Each person, then, would momentarily see the state of their soul through God's eyes and realize the truth of His existence, afterwhich, it is said the world will never be the same. This predicted event is now said to be imminent, as talk concerning the certainty of this miracle has intensified. This comprehensive and authoritative guide uses Scripture and testimony from the Saints and Visionaries to help explain the coming great miracle of God's Mercy.

Book The Jefferson Bible

Download or read book The Jefferson Bible written by Thomas Jefferson and published by Wyatt North Publishing, LLC. This book was released on 2014-01-05 with total page 122 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Jefferson Bible, or The Life and Morals of Jesus of Nazareth as it is formally titled, was a book constructed by Thomas Jefferson in the latter years of his life by cutting and pasting numerous sections from various Bibles as extractions of the doctrine of Jesus. Jefferson's composition excluded sections of the New Testament containing supernatural aspects as well as perceived misinterpretations he believed had been added by the Four Evangelists. In 1895, the Smithsonian Institution under the leadership of librarian Cyrus Adler purchased the original Jefferson Bible from Jefferson's great-granddaughter Carolina Randolph for $400. A conservation effort commencing in 2009, in partnership with the museum's Political History department, allowed for a public unveiling in an exhibit open from November 11, 2011, through May 28, 2012, at the National Museum of American History.

Book excerpt: New York Times bestselling author Lee Strobel trains his investigative sights on the hot-button question: is it really credible to believe God intervenes supernaturally in people's lives today? This provocative book starts with an unlikely interview in which America's foremost skeptic builds a seemingly persuasive case against the miraculous. But then Strobel travels the country to quiz scholars to see whether they can offer solid answers to atheist objections. Along the way, he encounters astounding accounts of healings and other phenomena that simply cannot be explained away by naturalistic causes. The book features the results of exclusive new scientific polling that shows miracle accounts are much more common than people think. What's more, Strobel delves into the most controversial question of all: what about miracles that don't happen? If God can intervene in the world, why doesn't he do it more often to relieve suffering? Many American Christians are embarrassed by the supernatural, not wanting to look odd or extreme to their neighbors. Yet, The Case for Miracles shows not only that the miraculous is possible, but that God still does intervene in our world in awe-inspiring ways. Here’s a unique book that examines all sides of this issue and comes away with a passionate defense for God's divine action in lives today. Also available: The Case for Miracles Spanish edition, kids' edition, and student edition.

Download or read book The Case Against Miracles written by John W. Loftus and published by . This book was released on 2019-11-22 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For as long as the idea of "miracles" has been in the public sphere, the conversation about them has been shaped exclusively by religious apologists and Christian leaders. The definitions for what a miracles are have been forged by the same men who fought hard to promote their own beliefs as fitting under that umbrella. It's time for a change. Enter John W. Loftus, an atheist author who has earned three master's degrees from Lincoln Christian Seminary and Trinity Evangelical Divinity School. Loftus, a former student of noted Christian apologist William Lane Craig, got some of the biggest names in the field to contribute to this book, which represents a critical analysis of the very idea of miracles. Incorporating his own thoughts along with those of noted academics, philosophers, and theologians, Loftus is able to properly define "miracle" and then show why there's no reason to believe such a thing even exists. Addressing every single issue that touches on miracles in a thorough and academic manner, this compilation represents the most extensive look at the phenomenon ever displayed through the lens of an ardent nonbeliever. If you've ever wondered exactly what a miracle is, or doubted whether they exist, then this book is for you.

Book Theories of Inerrancy and Inspiration of Biblical Scriptures

Download or read book Theories of Inerrancy and Inspiration of Biblical Scriptures written by Dr. Quinton B. Richmond, PhD and published by Author House. This book was released on 2014-03 with total page 391 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book was written to help all born-again Christians to believe that Eternal Life begins in our present life on earth and continue on into the World of Eternity. It is designed to impress on the minds of all humankind that those who are considered their enemies, will respond and repay them in kindness as a friend. Accordingly, the chosen subject, The Road to Eternal Life, was selected in order to broaden my knowledge and understanding of Christian believer's concepts as to why Eternal Life can be lived in our present day journey on earth, and it is a viable truth in God's plan of salvation. Also, this research is devoted to find out what concepts theories, and beliefs already exist in this area. In addition, my goal was to read and understand the history why Jesus Christ's teachings' are the Way, the Truth, and Everlasting Life for all who repent of sins and believe His Gospel. In addition, my purpose is with the intent to gain a new perspective and pursue efforts to add new thoughts and ideas and to strengthen prior ones in relation to the Kingdom of God which concerns the future and the End of Time. Furthermore, to pursue efforts in detailed reviews of other book data that contain ideas, concepts, and key theories of biblical opinions of God's Eternal Life Plan... Then analyze and evaluate these sources information and evidence used in their conclusion. Likewise, consider the values of other source ideas, theories, concepts, practices that are useful in today's religious culture. Similarly, there is the desire to pursue creative innovations efforts which set forth new theories never before revealed on the subject of Eternal Life. In addition, my efforts are directed to provide accepted meaning, and strength, and theories that already exist. Likewise, the primary design of this research is: (1). to determine what claims are made by major sources in traditional work, (2). to determine if these prior sources actually report viable data, and evaluate and assess the validity of their arguments given for rejection/acceptance of Eternal Life, (3). to determine what ideas, theories, and practices are based on inductive and deductive practices.

Book Quakers Christ and the Enlightenment

Download or read book Quakers Christ and the Enlightenment written by Madeleine Pennington and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2021-03-04 with total page 288 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Quakers were by far the most successful of the radical religious groups to emerge from the turbulence of the mid-seventeenth century—and their survival into the present day was largely facilitated by the transformation of the movement during its first fifty years. What began as a loose network of charismatic travelling preachers was, by the start of the eighteenth century, a well-organised and international religious machine. This shift is usually explained in terms of a desire to avoid persecution, but Quakers, Christ, and the Enlightenment argues instead for the importance of theological factors as the major impetus for change. In the first sustained account of the theological changes guiding the development of seventeenth-century Quakerism, Madeleine Pennington explores the Quakers' positive intellectual engagement with those outside the movement to offer a significant reassessment of the causal factors determining the development of early Quakerism. Considering the Quakers' engagement with such luminaries as Baruch Spinoza, Henry More, John Locke, and John Norris, Pennington unveils the Quakers' concerted attempts to bolster their theological reputation through the refinement of their central belief in the 'inward Christ', or 'the Light within'. In doing so, she further challenges stereotypes of early modern radicalism as anti-intellectual and ill-educated. Rather, the theological concerns of the Quakers and their interlocutors point to a crisis of Christology weaving through the intellectual milieu of the seventeenth century, which has long been under-estimated as significant fuel for the emerging Enlightenment.
