Book excerpt: The truth is that we live in a turbulent world filled with sin, temptation and lies just waiting to pull us under. Things that initially make us feel they would enhance our lives, often lead to consequences such as losing a job, wife, family, self-worth and dignity. I once lived and participated in this longing for worldly things for a large part of my life. It is exhausting and never rewarding. We can never do enough or have enough to be completely satisfied. It leaves a person feeling hopeless and alone. There is hope in Jesus. That is the difference. God intended for us to live in His truth, love and light. He is our Creator. When we listen to His calling and He grants us His grace, the storms become glassy, calm waters. The temptations and longing change into satisfaction in an amazing relationship with Jesus. He fills our cups. He is the cure. He is the answer. In this book, you will read some of God’s amazing miracles that happened 2000 years ago when Jesus lived on the earth and you will also read about miracles that have happened recently. Jesus still lives in those who believe through His Holy Spirit. These miracles have happened over the past few years to my family and to close friends of mine. They are incredible. We are so very grateful, and they need to be shared.

Download or read book A Book of Miracles written by Dr. Bernie S. Siegel and published by New World Library. This book was released on 2014-10-15 with total page 314 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Heartwarming and Heart-Opening Stories Gathered from Decades of Medical Practice Bernie Siegel first wrote about miracles when he was a practicing surgeon and founded Exceptional Cancer Patients, a groundbreaking synthesis of group, individual, dream, and art therapy that provided patients with a “carefrontation.” Compiled during his more than thirty years of practice, speaking, and teaching, the stories in these pages are riveting, warm, and belief expanding. Their subjects include a girl whose baby brother helped her overcome anorexia, a woman whose cancer helped her heal by teaching her to stand up for herself, and a family that was saved from a burning house by bats. Without diminishing the reality of pain and hardship, the stories show real people turning crisis into blessing by responding to adversity in ways that empower and heal. They demonstrate what we are capable of and show us that we can achieve miracles as we confront life’s difficulties.

Book excerpt: HOW MEDITATION CAN HELP YOU ESTABLISH A DIRECT CONNECTION TO GOD "CHRIST IN YOU, THE HOPE OF GLORY" Colossians 1: 27 (NIV) The Bible states in the Scriptures that God has placed the Christ Spirit within each one of us. In John 14:20, Jesus says "On that day you will realize that I am in the Father, and you are in me, and I am in you." Author Allen C. Liles, an ordained non-denominational minister, wants us to consider using the daily practice of meditation to help establish a direct link between us and the Divine. Rev. Liles shares the wisdom, guidance, insight and support that he received from God and the Christ Spirit within us over a full year of sitting in the silence every morning. He claims no special relationship with God. Rev. Liles believes that each of us can access the Holy Presence by becoming open and receptive to sitting with God in meditation on a regular basis. His struggles during the year included the illness of his wife, retirement from a ministerial career, aging, caregiving, family issues with adult children, financial concerns, and finding the courage to take life one day at a time. No matter what your problems or concerns, Rev. Liles's experiences in meditation offer hope for a happier, fulfilled and more peaceful life in a time of turmoil and change.

I will be judged based on my beliefs, so I wanted to make sure that I left this world outlining what I individually believe. Collective beliefs have taken over our human bank of information. It is very rare to see people who believe outside of a collective form of knowledge. Individual knowledge is so much more powerful than collective knowledge. Here is my assessment of religion and the beliefs that I have chosen to accept as true in this lifetime.

Download or read book Travels in a Gay Nation written by Philip Gambone and published by Univ of Wisconsin Press. This book was released on 2010-06-30 with total page 308 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For two years, Philip Gambone traveled the length and breadth of the United States, talking candidly with LGBTQ people about their lives. In addition to interviews from David Sedaris, George Takei, Barney Frank, and Tammy Baldwin, Travels in a Gay Nation brings us lesser-known voices—a retired Naval officer, a transgender scholar and “drag king,” a Princeton philosopher, two opera sopranos who happen to be lovers, an indie rock musician, the founder of a gay frat house, and a pair of Vermont garden designers. In this age when contemporary gay America is still coming under attack, Gambone captures the humanity of each individual. For some, their identity as a sexual minority is crucial to their life’s work; for others, it has been less so, perhaps even irrelevant. But, whether splashy or quiet, center-stage or behind the scenes, Gambone’s subjects have managed—despite facing ignorance, fear, hatred, intolerance, injustice, violence, ridicule, or just plain indifference—to construct passionate, inspiring lives.
