Book excerpt: Very little has been written about the children of Holocaust survivors and the psychological impact passed on to them through the silence of their parents. Elman also questions if America of today compares to Germany in the 1930s. Holocaust denial is a trend; fascism is on the rise, books are being banned, voting rights are being suppressed, women's rights are under attack, racism and antisemitism are on the rise, and freedom of the press is under attack. American institutions are being attacked and delegitimized. White supremacy is on the rise, and many evangelicals are pushing hard to make America a "Christian Nation." Will American democracy survive? Miracles Through Hell is a deeply moving account of bravery, luck, and redemption, in which Elman uncovers the details of his parents' lives before the Nazis took control of Poland, leads us through the miracles and hell his parents experienced as the war raged on, and finally, reveals the trauma of second-generation survivors. Through telling his family history, Elman's own story and concerns about America's future are told.

In addition to his compelling story, Mr. Bloch outlines a fourteen point "brain maintenance" program--a holistic approach to the treatment of anxiety and depression that includes: diet; nutrition; exercise; stress-reduction; medication; vitamin, mineral, and herbal supplements; and the importance of creating strong bonds of social support (social isolation is both a cause of and a consequence of depression).

Book Miracles Ain t What They Used to Be

Download or read book Miracles Ain t What They Used to Be written by Joe R. Lansdale and published by PM Press. This book was released on 2016-07-01 with total page 122 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Arguably (and who doesn’t like to argue?) the world’s bestselling cult author, Joe R. Lansdale is celebrated across several continents for his dark humor, his grimly gleeful horror, and his outlaw politics. Welcome to Texas. With hits like Bubba Ho-Tep and The Drive-In the Lansdale secret was always endangered, and the spectacular new Hap and Leonard Sundance TV series is busily blowing whatever cover Joe had left. Backwoods noir some call it; others call it redneck surrealism. Joe’s signature style is on display here in all its grit, grime, and glory, beginning with two (maybe three) previously unpublished Hap and Leonard tales revealing the roots of their unlikely partnership. Plus… A hatful and a half of Joe’s notorious Texas Observer pieces that helped catapult him from obscurity into controversy; and “Miracles Ain’t What They Used to Be,” Lansdale’s passionately personal take on the eternal tussles between God and Man, Texas and America, racism and reason—and religion and common sense. And Featuring: Our Outspoken Interview, in which piney woods dialect, Bible thumpery, martial arts, crime classics and Hollywood protocols are finally awarded the attention they deserve. Or don’t.

Book Dreams Ghosts and Miracles

Download or read book Dreams Ghosts and Miracles written by CB Floyd and published by Author House. This book was released on 2009-01-15 with total page 488 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Who is CB Floyd? Ayn Rand, in the very first sentence on the very first page of her bestselling novel Atlas Shrugged, asked this now immortal question, “Who is John Galt?” Almost 50 years later, it is my prediction that the world will soon be asking with similar fervor, “Who is CB Floyd?” Well, who is CB Floyd? Poet, musician, composer, author, master repairman, cartoonist, part-time psychic and a master storyteller to boot...I met CB Floyd in high school when I was 15 and he quickly became my best friend. Dreams, Ghosts and Miracles is the first in a series which relates the autobiographical accounting of the amazing life of CB Floyd and I am sure you will find it both fascinatingly interesting and wonderfully inspiring. I’ve read it many, many times now and I love this book completely. His insight into his own problems (and subsequently, the problems of the world) - as told in an amiable and informal manner - is certain to bring you hours of enjoyment and real hope that someone might actually know something about what is going on here on planet Earth. Treat this like an adventure and you won’t be disappointed...and Bon Voyage!

  • Pages : 86 pages

Download or read book I Was Born to Destroy Hell written by Tim Ehmann and published by Independently Published. This book was released on 2018-10-30 with total page 86 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 'I Was Born to Destroy Hell' is the second book of Tim Ehmann. Like his first book 'I Met God in Hell" Tim Ehmann gives us an even more brilliant description of Heaven, focusing on new revelation and on the ancient truths of Jesus. This book gives a more accurate detail on the appearance of Jesus and all of heaven, but most important, the heart of God. A Continuing theme with his first book, Tims message is of a true love affair with the Lord Jesus, which of course is our salvation. Tim devotes several chapters of the new book 'I Was Born to Destroy Hell' to uncommon miracles and the 3rd Great Awakening. When Jesus appeared to Tim and saved him, at the very gate of hell, on September 1, 2000 , the last words of that 8 hour conversation was 'Timmy, I saved you, Now you Go and save my Children' So needless to say there are many new and thorough descriptions of heaven and of course hell, which has been on the heart of Tim Ehmann to release to the world. This ministry is a miracle ministry, it started with this miracle, and we have seen miracle ever since. There is also a couple of chapters on the Christian music market and a rare insight on the entertainment industry. This book is a great revelation for the saved and the unsaved, for the mature in the Lord and for a brand new convert. The graphic descriptions of the horrors of hell, and what Tim Ehmann saw is well worth the price itself, but what i like the most is the accurate descriptions of Jesus ever written, and the spiritual laws of heaven. There are several chapters devoted to teaching on the gifts, on the faith walk, and of course the most important subject, salvation. Without that nothing else matters, Jesus said 'I am the Way, the Truth and the Life, no man comes to the Father but through me. Without this basic truth there is no salvation. This book shows you the outrageous and out of control Love of Jesus for each and every one of us. It's the love of God that brings us to salvation, and this book shows you in how many different ways JESUS speaks to us, and shows us the way back home to heaven. Realize through your own life how many times God perfomed miracles to get your attention. Know the day of your salvation. Come and Join us in Heaven. Tim Ehmann Website: www.TimEhmannProductions.com

Book Miracles of the Virgin in Middle English

Download or read book Miracles of the Virgin in Middle English written by Adrienne Williams Boyarin and published by Broadview Press. This book was released on 2015-09-01 with total page 170 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: During the Middle Ages, Mary was the most powerful of saints, and the combination of her humanity and her proximity to the divine captured the medieval imagination. Her importance is nowhere more clearly reflected than in the genre of “Miracles of the Virgin,” short narrative accounts of Mary’s miraculous intercessory powers. These stories tend to fit a basic narrative pattern in which Mary saves a devoted believer from spiritual or physical danger—but beneath this surface simplicity, the Miracles frequently evoke fine or revealing theological, social, and cultural distinctions. They are remarkably various in tone, ranging from the darkly serious to the comically scandalous, and many display anti-Semitism to a greater degree or with greater punch than do other medieval genres. Mary herself takes on a variety of characteristics, appearing as dominant and persuasive more often than she appears as gentle and maternal. This volume offers a small but representative sampling of what survives of this literature in the English language. The Middle English has been helpfully glossed and annotated, and is lightly modernized for ease of reading; one particularly challenging story is translated in facing-page format. The “In Context” sections provide relevant biblical passages and medieval versions of the Christian prayers frequently evoked in the miracles; additional samples of Marian poetry and medieval illustrations of Marian miracles are also included.
