Book excerpt: It would seem rather late in the day to put forth an Apology of the Christian Religion. For that religion has stood before the world nearly two thousand years, and it has made good its contention of having been divinely established. The historic credentials of its institution by Jesus Christ, God’s own Son, are absolutely without flaw. Its divine origin and purpose are, moreover, clearly demonstrated by the moral regeneration which it has wrought during every century of its existence. It is, therefore, a religion that is obviously true, and as such there appears little need of defending its claims. Aeterna Press

Download or read book Lessing and the Enlightenment written by Henry E. Allison and published by SUNY Press. This book was released on 2018-01-29 with total page 252 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A comprehensive study of Lessings religious thought. Although only one aspect of Gotthold Ephraim Lessings diverse oeuvre, his religious thought had a significant influence on thinkers such as Kant, Hegel, Kierkegaard, and present-day liberal Protestant theologians. His thought is particularly difficult to assess, however, because it is found largely in a series of essays, reviews, critical studies, polemical writings, and commentary on theological texts. Beyond these, his correspondence, and a few fragmentary essays unpublished during his lifetime, we have his famous drama of religious toleration, Nathan the Wise, and his philosophical-historical sketch, The Education of the Human Race. In these scattered texts, Lessing challenged the full range of theological views in the Enlightenment, from Protestant orthodoxy, with its belief in Biblical inerrancy, to a radical naturalism, which rejected both the concept of a divine revelation and the historically based claims of Christianity to be one, as well as virtually everything in between. Since he refused to identify himself with any of these parties, Lessing was an enigmatic figure, and a central question from his time to today is where he stood on the issue of the truth of the Christian religion. Now back in print, and with the addition of two supplementary essays, Henry E. Allisons book argues that, despite appearances, Lessing was not merely an eclectic thinker or intellectual provocateur, but a serious philosopher of religion, who combined a basically Spinozistic conception of God with a sophisticated pluralistic conception of religious truth inspired by Leibniz.
Download or read book The Reason Why A Common Sense Contribution to Christian and Catholic Apologetics written by Bernard J. Otten and published by FV Éditions. This book was released on 2016-08-05 with total page 247 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "In order to make this contribution to Apologetics serviceable to all, it was thought well to begin with the very elements of religion. Hence starting from the fact of creation, it is first of all made clear that religious service and worship of some kind is imperative under every conceivable condition of man's estate here on earth. This idea is evolved in the first part, which, therefore, deals with the question more or less in the abstract. In the second part, the subject is narrowed down to a consideration of supernatural religion, both as an abstract possibility and as a concrete fact. As this supernatural religion is in fact identified with Christianity, the third part deals with the question of Christ's divinity, which is quite commonly denied by religious indifferentists of the present day. The fourth and last part contains an answer to the question: Which of the hundreds of professedly Christian denominations, scattered over the face of the earth, represents the true Church of Christ? Thus the whole field of Apologetics is fairly well covered, although the treatment is necessarily somewhat brief." (B.J Otten, Professor of Theology)

Download or read book The Case Against Miracles written by John W. Loftus and published by . This book was released on 2019-11-22 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For as long as the idea of "miracles" has been in the public sphere, the conversation about them has been shaped exclusively by religious apologists and Christian leaders. The definitions for what a miracles are have been forged by the same men who fought hard to promote their own beliefs as fitting under that umbrella. It's time for a change. Enter John W. Loftus, an atheist author who has earned three master's degrees from Lincoln Christian Seminary and Trinity Evangelical Divinity School. Loftus, a former student of noted Christian apologist William Lane Craig, got some of the biggest names in the field to contribute to this book, which represents a critical analysis of the very idea of miracles. Incorporating his own thoughts along with those of noted academics, philosophers, and theologians, Loftus is able to properly define "miracle" and then show why there's no reason to believe such a thing even exists. Addressing every single issue that touches on miracles in a thorough and academic manner, this compilation represents the most extensive look at the phenomenon ever displayed through the lens of an ardent nonbeliever. If you've ever wondered exactly what a miracle is, or doubted whether they exist, then this book is for you.

Download or read book Miracles Today written by Craig S. Keener and published by Baker Academic. This book was released on 2021-10-19 with total page 304 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Do miracles still happen today? This book demonstrates that miraculous works of God, which have been part of the experience of the church around the world since Christianity began, continue into the present. Leading New Testament scholar Craig Keener addresses common questions about miracles and provides compelling reasons to believe in them today, including many accounts that offer evidence of verifiable miracles. This book gives an accessible and concise overview of one of Keener's most significant research topics. His earlier two-volume work on miracles stands as the definitive word on the topic, but its size and scope are daunting to many readers. This new book summarizes Keener's basic argument but contains substantial new material, including new accounts of the miraculous. It is suitable as a textbook but also accessible to church leaders and laypeople.

Book excerpt: The JCIM derives from the Hugh Lynn Cayce version of the Course, which was completed by Helen Shucman and Bill Thetford in 1972. Later editing by others removed about 25% of the material contained in the first five chapters and made numerous editorial changes which affected both the tone and the content of the message. Many students consider study of the unabridged JCIM version to be indespensible in their curriculum.Text only. This edition does not include the Workbook or the Teachers' Manual. There is a good explanation of the JCIM on our website at http://jcim.net/sacredsource.html. 306 pages plus 102 page appendix comparing the JCIM with the popular commercial version of the Course.
