The book chronicles Schuller's evolving awareness since age three of whom and what God is. The first thirty years of her life were spent stumbling along, puzzled by mysterious events, but unable to tap into that power beyond her own. By sharing these supernatural episodes with you, Schuller seeks to raise your awareness to the basic elements reviewed at the end of each chapter, possibly inspiring you to facilitate miracles in your own life and the lives of others. The book is chocked full of OMG miraculous events, written with honesty that sometimes hurts, humor when appropriate, and a passion to persuade each and every one of you-no matter your religion, sect or culture-that you too can experience a transformed life. How is this possible? The author believes all paths for humanity lead to the One Source of all- by any name or label- the God of Unconditional Love and that all can access that Love; all can experience more peace, love, joy and abundance in their lives.

Book Medical Miracles

  • Author : Jacalyn Duffin
  • Publisher : Oxford University Press
  • Release : 2009
  • ISBN : 019533650X
  • Pages : 304 pages

Download or read book Medical Miracles written by Jacalyn Duffin and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2009 with total page 304 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Modern culture tends to separate medicine and miracles, but their histories are closely intertwined. The Roman Catholic Church recognizes saints through canonization based on evidence that they worked miracles, as signs of their proximity to God. Physicianhistorian Jacalyn Duffin has examined Vatican sources on 1400 miracles from six continents and spanning four centuries. Overwhelmingly the miracles cited in canonizations between 1588 and 1999 are healings, and the majority entail medical care and physician testimony. These remarkable records contain intimate stories of illness, prayer, and treatment, as told by people who rarely leave traces: peasants and illiterates, men and women, old and young. A woman's breast tumor melts away; a man's wounds knit; a lame girl suddenly walks; a dead baby revives. Suspicious of wishful thinking or na ve enthusiasm, skeptical clergy shaped the inquiries to identify recoveries that remain unexplained by the best doctors of the era. The tales of healing are supplemented with substantial testimony from these physicians. Some elements of the miracles change through time. Duffin shows that doctors increase in number; new technologies are embraced quickly; diagnoses shift with altered capabilities. But other aspects of the miracles are stable. The narratives follow a dramatic structure, shaped by the formal questions asked of each witness and by perennial reactions to illness and healing. In this history, medicine and religion emerge as parallel endeavors aimed at deriving meaningful signs from particular instances of human distress -- signs to explain, alleviate, and console in confrontation with suffering and mortality. A lively, sweeping analysis of a fascinating set of records, this book also poses an exciting methodological challenge to historians: miracle stories are a vital source not only on the thoughts and feelings of ordinary people, but also on medical science and its practitioners.

Book Unlocking the Mysteries of Genesis

Download or read book Unlocking the Mysteries of Genesis written by Henry M. Morris and published by Harvest House Publishers. This book was released on 2016-08-01 with total page 290 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Unlock the Mysteries of Faith and Science Have you wondered how the creation story in Genesis fits with the evolutionary theories of popular science? You're not alone. Many Christians wrestle with the seeming disparity between faith and science. They want to believe the inerrancy of Scripture, but it's difficult to reconcile the two. Unlocking the Mysteries of Genesis seeks to resolve this conflict by answering key questions about the origin of human life, the evidence left by the fossil record, and how the findings of science line up with the Bible. Using the most current research and data, this visually stunning book takes readers on a journey that explores the wonders of God's creation through the lens of faith-based science that clearly points to the authenticity and accuracy of the biblical creation account. The compelling evidence you'll find as you study both Genesis and science will challenge your intellect and reinforce your faith.

Book Planthropology

  • Pages : 0 pages

Download or read book Planthropology written by Kenneth Druse and published by Clarkson Potter. This book was released on 2008 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ken Druse, one of today’s most acclaimed and popular garden writers, takes us on a ceaselessly fascinating stroll through the life of the garden, from the botanical marvels displayed by virtually any plant to the exploits of the plant explorers who once—and still do—race across the globe like Indiana Jones in search of rare and exotic specimens, to the need to conserve the threatened diversity of the natural world. Ripe with facts, punctured myths, serious investigation, and practical gardening wisdom, this is a gloriously illustrated and enlightening celebration of the plants that delight and sustain us. For Ken Druse, the garden provides both a refuge from the world and an irresistible invitation to explore the wonders of nature. In planthropology, Druse celebrates the secret stories of plants and explains their im-portance within daily life, now and since ancient times. A pleasingly random and ever delightful garden stroll of a book, it uncovers scientific facts, dispels myths, exposes controversies, tells some rollicking good anecdotes, and, along the way, casually dispenses an abundance of practical gardening wisdom. Using many of his own favorite plants as examples, Druse reveals little-known facts about both rare and common beauties. For instance, if you like winding down on a terrace or patio after work, Druse suggests planting petunias. Why? Because they are evening fragrant—their pollinators only come out at night. Perhaps you may not have noticed the beautiful spiraling patterns on sunflower heads; Druse explains that all plants feature such spirals, and that they correspond exactly to mathematical principles that have captivated great thinkers (and artists) throughout history. With the authority and assurance of someone who demonstrates both deep passion and uncommon ex-pertise, Druse takes us chapter by chapter through the history, biology, economics, and cultural significance of plants. We meet bumblebees who literally shake pollen free from flowers with sonic vibrations. (Druse can’t recommend petting the fuzzy little apian teddy bears as they sleep in a sheltering blossom, but he has tried it!) Here too are the adventures of the plant explorers who sailed and trekked across the world in search of new and exotic specimens, and whose exploits were far more harrowing than you might imagine. Some plants even factored into the instigation of war. But Druse then gives us a handy primer on the language of flowers (a single gardenia says, “I love you in secret,” and acacia blossoms say, “Let us be friends”). He considers the influence of plants on the history of fine and decorative arts, the way we garden now with stalwart, low-maintenance plants, and the ever more critical need for conservation. Planthropology is a wondrous ac-knowledgment, from one plant lover to his fellow devotees, of the limitless pleasure and deep wisdom to be found in the garden.

Monnon begins the story in the days just prior to the explosion, providing news items, ads, and public notices that give readers fresh insight into life in the city at that time. Monnon's interviewees provide candid recollections of where they were and their initial responses to the disaster. What emerge are unusually personal stories of confusion, injury, loss, and the eventual resurgence of hope-raw remembrances that bring back into sharp focus those first days on the ground. Miracles and Mysteries is a reminder of the tragedy of war, and how ordinary people respond to overwhelming and inexplicable events.

Book excerpt: A collection of three novellas celebrating the beauty of Christmas at Grace Chapel Inn. It s Christmas morning, and as the Howard sisters celebrate some of their family s treasured traditions, they reminisce about Christmases past. Jane reads from the Bible, as their father always did, and remembers when she took part in a living Nativity. Cast as an angel, she decided to make her part more exciting, resulting in a dangerous fall from a hayloft. She should have been seriously injured, but a Christmas miracle changed the course of her life. Louise studies the badly constructed stocking she made for her newborn daughter Cynthia and recalls her first Christmas as a mother. And Alice examines the special ornament she received the year she organized a program to give all the animals from a nearby shelter a home for Christmas. The novellas capture a sense of nostalgia and the ideal of a good old-fashioned Christmas.
