Book A Text Book of Minor Surgery

Download or read book A Text Book of Minor Surgery written by Edward Milton Foote and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2015-06-17 with total page 780 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A Text-Book of Minor Surgery In preparing this "Minor Surgery," it has been my purpose to apply to the less serious, every-day problems of surgical practise the new knowledge which the discoveries of the last twenty-five years have revealed. During this period the advances in diagnosis and treatment have rendered necessary a new surgical literature, and many excellent text-books have appeared, in one, two, and four volumes. In these the more serious surgical conditions are exhaustively discussed, while the treatment of the lesser ailments - the minor surgery which forms the bulk of surgical practise - is condensed into a chapter or two, in which methods of treatment long since outgrown still find their lace. Nor is the importance of minor surgery recognized in the curriculum of our medical schools. And yet this neglected field of minor surgery is the only one into which the average practitioner will ever enter, and is also the one in which most surgeons will find the majority of their patients. What winder then that the physician, untaught and unread in minor surgery fails to achieve good results, and that more bad surgery is performed upon the hand than upon the organs of the abdomen? Impressed by the need of a text-book which describes in detail I he manifold lesser accidents and surgical diseases which the general practitioner is called upon to treat, I commenced eight years ago the preparation of such a book. It has been rewritten several times, until hardly a page of the original manuscript remains; and it appears now in its development, somewhat larger, but the same in purpose as when it was first conceived. Book A Text Book on Minor Surgery

Download or read book A Text Book on Minor Surgery written by John Colin Vaughan and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2015-06-24 with total page 639 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A Text-Book on Minor Surgery During the last decade while surgery has shared in the great advance made by all the sciences, one of its branches, minor surgery, has far outstripped the others. This has been caused by a great number of factors. The industrial clinic, the workers compensation insurance, the use of local anesthesia, and the realization of the far-reaching results and complications of poorly and improperly treated minor injuries have been responsible for the prodigious strides of this branch. The disfiguring scars of burns, the stiff fingers, due to neglected tendon sheath infections, and other such conditions so important to the individual both socially and economically have left their indelible imprint upon all surgeons, stimulating them to a keener interest in this formerly unimportant division of surgery. To give detailed description of the widely different methods of treating the same surgical condition would fill many volumes, and would fall far beyond the scope of this book. In the chapters which follow an attempt has been made to give those surgical procedures which are simple and efficient. In their selection it has always been borne in mind that while complicated treatments may yield better results in the hands of their originators, complete failure has often met the attempts of those not skilled in the involved technic. A work on Surgery has long since ceased to be the product of an individual. We, therefore, extend our heartiest thanks to other authors, our predecessors and teachers; and for much help to Doctors G. M. Phelps and Ralph Colp, and also to Grace Adams and Emma Renick. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book Chassin s Operative Strategy in General Surgery

Download or read book Chassin s Operative Strategy in General Surgery written by Carol E.H. Scott-Conner and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-19 with total page 1087 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Fourth Edition of Chassin’s Operative Strategy in General Surgery: An Expositive Atlas is designed to expand this comprehensive and unique general surgery reference while remaining true to the special character of the work. This unique text continues to provide an emphasis on surgical strategy that is unmatched by other textbooks of surgical technique. It continues to comprehensively cover all non-vascular operations commonly performed by general surgeons. As always, Chassin’s explains the conceptual basis of each operation, outlines strategies to avoid common pitfalls, and carefully describes and beautifully illustrates the technical steps of each operation. The Fourth Edition has been expanded and updated by adding both new procedures and new features. A significant new feature, “Documentation Basics” has been added to each chapter, providing a bulleted list of key features that need to be listed in the operative note to accurately describe extent of procedure and enhance accuracy of coding. General surgery continues to evolve. Procedures are added and many operations are done through new minimal access approaches. However, as a surgeon may be called upon to perform an operation that has become rare, Chassin’s unique “legacy” material has been retained for reference. In addition, 17 new chapters have been added, including 4 new chapters on colorectal surgery. Over 1100 elegant illustrations and new radiographs accompany detailed textual explanations. Mo re than ever, Chassin’s Operative Strategy in General Surgery: An Expositive Atlas, Fourth Edition is an indispensable reference for all surgical residents and practicing surgeons.
