Book Small Miracles

Download or read book Small Miracles written by A. C. "Pete" Peters and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2007-06 with total page 25 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What Christian hasn't questioned their faith in God at some point during their lives? Most people accept their faith blindly as children due to parental influence, and "Pete" Peters was no exception. An automobile accident at age sixteen changed everything. Peters was speeding in a hilly area when his 1951 Ford convertible careened off a steep cliff and crashed one hundred feet below, causing his younger brother David to suffer fatal injuries. And so began Peters' first question: "How can there be a God that allows innocent people to suffer and die for no reason?" In later years, he witnessed family trauma, senseless war, famine, two divorces, and other atrocities. From his point of view, there was no God to care. A self-proclaimed intellectual atheist, Peters still read about and discussed faith, and over the years devoted much thought as to why he felt God logically could not exist. After many "small miracles" eventually occur in his life, Peters finally realizes that faith is a gift that is only given to those ready to accept it. Peters tells his story in such a compelling and personal way that he will help anyone who is spiritually confused find their way back to God.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “Consistently surprising…The Logic of Miracles breaks new ground in the relationship of probability, fate, and the ability of human beings to behold them."—Douglas Rushkoff, author of Team Human We live in a more turbulent world than we like to think. Yet the science we use to analyze economic, financial, and statistical events mostly disregards the world’s essentially chaotic nature. We need to get used to the idea that wildly improbable events are actually part of the natural order. Here, a renowned mathematician and psychologist explains how the wild and mild worlds (which he names Wildovia and Mildovia) coexist, and that different laws apply to each. Even if we live in an ultimately wild universe, he argues, we’re better off pretending that it obeys Mildovian laws. Doing so may amount to a self-fulfilling prophecy and create an island of predictability in a very rough sea. Perched on the ragged border between economics and complexity theory, the author proposes to extend the reach of science to subjects previously considered outside its grasp: the unpredictable, unrepeatable, highly improbable events we commonly call “miracles.” “It's hard to see how miracles and math fit together. But if you accept László Mérö's invitation, you will enter a world where miracles are normal and the predictable sits side-by-side with the unpredictable. Along the way, he unveils the mathematics of the stock market and explains, in a playful yet mathematically accurate way, the roots of market crashes and earthquakes, and why ‘black swans’ are not just calamities but opportunities.”—Albert-László Barabási, author of Linked

This three-volume set attempts to answer that question, presenting the latest, as well as classic, thinking and research regarding miracles from fields that include psychology, psychiatry, theology, biology, and history. We have all heard of what seem miraculous events, which have surfaced across history. These books, led by an eminent scholar who serves as series editor for the Praeger series Psychology, Religion, and Spirituality, examine miracles of body, mind, and spirit, presenting the most recent research and writing on these uncommon events, aiming to bring hard science to some of the most persistent and peculiar phenomena associated with the human race. Can science, psychology, and biology explain miracles? This three-volume set attempts to answer that question, presenting the latest, as well as classic, thinking and research regarding miracles from fields that include psychology, psychiatry, theology, biology, and history. From news of a crippled woman who left her wheelchair and walked after an evangelist prayed over her, to stories of people who died on the operating table only to be revived to tell of bright lights and the pathway to the afterlife, we've all heard of what seem miraculous events. They have surfaced across history. They range from stigmata and bleeding icons to deadly tumors that disappear, and healers who succeed just by laying hands on the afflicted; from people who can predict unexpected events to so-called mediums and those who can allegedly see and speak with the dead. Some miracles are intricately tied to religious beliefs, but there are millions of people who ascribe to no particular religion, yet still believe that things happen that defy all laws of nature, and thus defy scientific explanation. In these books, eminent scholar J. Harold Ellens and his team of expert contributors examine miracles of body, mind, and spirit, presenting the most recent research and writing on these uncommon events as they aim to bring hard science to some of the most persistent—and peculiar—phenomena associated with the human race.

Book excerpt: How does God supernaturally reveal Himself? This book is a detailed introduction to the complex, controversial, but vital topic of miracles. The topic would be difficult enough, but the claims and teaching of charismaticism have made a biblical understanding of miracles even more critical, but also more complicated. In the course of this Bible study we endeavor to answer such questions as: - What is a miracle? - How do we avoid the extremes between anti-supernaturalism which claims there are no miracles, and super-supernaturalism which claims an abundance of them? - What are the different types of miracles and why is it critical to distinguish them? - What are the myriad of ways that God has miraculously "spoken" and which of these can we expect today? - What is the biblical place and attributes of dreams and visions? - What is the embarrassing history and alarming dangers of the super-supernaturalism at the heart of the "charismatic" movement?

Book Miracles Maybe

Download or read book Miracles Maybe written by Robert Prazak and published by Page Publishing Inc. This book was released on 2019-02-05 with total page 55 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a two part book dealing with the only two sermons I have given in my life, both dealing with personal experiences and observations. The first "Miracles--Maybe? deals with a time in my life (57 to 72) when one good deed led to a series of happenings and events that I could not fully understand or explain. All I could do is shake my head and say or think "Lord you did it again". The Hispanics who were a large part of the story still remain my very dear friends. The second (Where Have All The Churches Gone) started about 50 years ago when on a trip to Sweden my good Swedish friend, Bjorn Wahlstrom and I made a bet of a dollar in front of a number of his influential Swedish buddies as witnesses. He made this statement "in a hundred years the United States will be just like Sweden--only a few old people will be left to practice Christianity." I took him up on that bet, even though neither of us would be alive to settle the bet. He died last year, and as we enter the half way point I am afraid he might be winning, but there is still time. This book is my feeble attempt to keep Christianity alive and well and get others to "keep the fire burning".. "Bjorn, nothing would make me happier than if you and I make it to heaven and we meet again in 50 years and you have to pay me the dollar."
