Book Minimum Weight Design of Stiffened Cylinders and Cylindrical Panels Under Combined Loads

Download or read book Minimum Weight Design of Stiffened Cylinders and Cylindrical Panels Under Combined Loads written by George J. Simitses and published by . This book was released on 1976 with total page 233 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report is divided into two parts, Parts A and B. In Part A, a methodology is presented for the minimum weight design of stiffened cylinders under combined loads of torsion, uniform axial compression and pressure. A number of illustrative examples are included in order to demonstrate the methodology. In addition, the listing of the developed computer program is included and thus those interested in the program can easily use it. In Part B, a methodology is presented for the minimum weight design of stiffened curved plates under combined shear with uniaxial or biaxial compression. This methodology is illustrated through a number of examples. At the end of this second part a complete listing of the developed computer programs is included along with the associated flow charts for data preparation. The load cases considered in both parts are representative of the worst possible load cases of destabilizing loads that an aircraft fuselage is expected to encounter. The methods developed represent a fully automated design procedure for that portion of the fuselage which is designed primarily against general instability.

Book Optimum Design of Ring Stiffened Cylindrical Shells

Download or read book Optimum Design of Ring Stiffened Cylindrical Shells written by Allen J. Bronowicki and published by . This book was released on 1974 with total page 33 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The report deals with the optimum structural design of circular cylindrical shells reinforced with identical uniformly spaced T-ring stiffeners, and subjected to external pressure loading. The optimization problems considered are of three types: (1) minimum-weight design, (2) design for maximum separation of the lowest two natural frequencies, and (3) design for maximum separation of the lowest two natural frequencies which have primarily axial content. Gross buckling is precluded by specifying a minimum natural frequency, and additional behavioral constraints preclude yielding or buckling of panels, T-ring stiffeners, and web and flange instabilities within each T-ring. Analysis is based on use of an equivalent orthotropic shell model, and optimization is accomplished through use of a sequential unconstrained minimization technique. (Modified author abstract).

Book The Effect of Axial Constraint on the Instability of Thin Circular Cylindrical Shells Under Uniform Axial Compression

Download or read book The Effect of Axial Constraint on the Instability of Thin Circular Cylindrical Shells Under Uniform Axial Compression written by Josef Singer and published by . This book was released on 1961 with total page 36 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The effect of axial elastic restrain on the instability of a circular cylindrical shell under uniform axial compression is analysed by a Rayleigh Ritz approach within the bounds of linear theory. The effect is calculated for a wide range of parameters and design curves are presented for the percentage increase in critical load. The analysis is carried out for restraints which are active from the beginning of loading and for such which come into action only at the onset of buckling. (Author).

Book Minimum Weight Design of Cylindrical Shell with Multiple Stiffener Sizes Under Buckling Constraint

Download or read book Minimum Weight Design of Cylindrical Shell with Multiple Stiffener Sizes Under Buckling Constraint written by T. Y. Yang and published by . This book was released on 1977 with total page 73 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The buckling equations for the orthogonally stiffened cylindrical shells under uniform axial compression and external pressure and with classical simply supported boundary conditions are formulated by treating the stiffeners as discrete elements. By assuming identical and equally spaced stringers and identical and equally spaced rings, the buckling equations can be uncoupled into several sets of simpler and manageable equations for the symmetric and antisymmetric longitudinal modes and symmetric and antisymmetric circumferential modes. The uncoupled submatrices are further reduced by partitioning and substitution. Effort is made to preserve the sparseness of the matrices in order to use a special compact storage scheme. A method to compute the minimum eigenvalue for a large general eigenvalue problem, the Ritz iteration method combined with Chebyshev procedure, is developed and its accuracies are evaluated. Examples are performed and results are compared to other computational and experimental results available.
