Book Minimizing Plume Contamination Production in Bipropellant Thrusters

Download or read book Minimizing Plume Contamination Production in Bipropellant Thrusters written by E. A. DeGaetano and published by . This book was released on 1984 with total page 9 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Under a 1-year funded by the International Telecommunication Satellite Organization, the Rocketdyne Division of Rockwell International designed, fabricated, and tested a full-scale, advanced, storable, pressure-fed thruster for blowdown operation in the 1-lbf thrust range. The purpose of the program was a full-scale technology demonstration of an engine appropriate for use as a satellite station-keeping and attitude-control thruster. The primary features of the thruster are high performance, reduced plume contaminant production, and long life. Using nitrogen tetroxide and monomethyl-hydrazine, the thruster operates at 50 psia chamber pressure and produces a nominal vacuum specific impulse of 300 seconds with a 150:1 nozzle expansion ratio. The thruster chamber is made of beryllium and is radiation cooled. Reduction of the plume contaminant is accomplished by providing improved propellant evaporation for high combustion efficiency and by reduction of thruster propellant dribble volumes.

Book Analysis of Potential Plume Contamination Effects Resulting from Two 300 Lb Bipropellant Engines Operating in a Satellite Environment

Download or read book Analysis of Potential Plume Contamination Effects Resulting from Two 300 Lb Bipropellant Engines Operating in a Satellite Environment written by W. T. Webber and published by . This book was released on 1972 with total page 73 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Two bipropellant rocket engines were analyzed for total plume contaminant production and a specific vehicular effect of the vehicle-deposited contaminant when operated with a prescribed satellite configuration and engine duty cycle. The two engines analyzed were the Rocketdyne RS-2101 and the Marquardt R 23-B. The vehicular effect analyzed was electrical power loss from degradation of the solar cell array.

Book Hydrazine and Its Derivatives

Download or read book Hydrazine and Its Derivatives written by Eckart Walter Schmidt and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2001-08-24 with total page 868 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A new edition of the authoritative source on hydrazine chemistry In the past century, hydrazine, an important intermediate in the synthesis of countless chemicals with N-N bonds, has grown into a major industrial commodity with a wide range of uses. It is used as a fuel in rocket propulsion, as a boiler feedwater deoxygenating agent, and in the manufacture of foamed plastics, pharmaceuticals, and biodegradable pesticides and herbicides, to name just a few uses. Since the first edition of Hydrazine and Its Derivatives: Preparation, Properties, Applications was published in 1984, there has been considerable development in this field and many new aspects of hydrazine chemistry and applications have evolved. Offering an overview of hydrazines and their industrial applications, this book also provides a compilation of numerous references to the scientific and technical literature arranged in a systematic manner, allowing the reader to find the necessary information by accessing the pages either from the table of contents or the alphabetical subject index. Some other features of the significantly enlarged Second Edition include: Frequent "see also" cross-references/links to other relevant sections of the bookOver 8,400 references, most of which cover the period from 1980 to 1998 Extremely thorough, encyclopedia-style coverage of topics Information to aid in the design of environmentally benign, biodegradable pesticides and more energetic rocket propellants Background information on the adverse effects of pesticide residue in food Hydrazine and Its Derivatives: Preparation, Properties, Applications, Second Edition is the most comprehensive book ever published on hydrazines, and this new edition is indispensable reading material for chemists, toxicologists, environmentalists, propulsion engineers, materials engineers, and satellite builders.

Book Fundamentals of Electric Propulsion

Download or read book Fundamentals of Electric Propulsion written by Dan M. Goebel and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2008-12-22 with total page 528 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Throughout most of the twentieth century, electric propulsion was considered the technology of the future. Now, the future has arrived. This important new book explains the fundamentals of electric propulsion for spacecraft and describes in detail the physics and characteristics of the two major electric thrusters in use today, ion and Hall thrusters. The authors provide an introduction to plasma physics in order to allow readers to understand the models and derivations used in determining electric thruster performance. They then go on to present detailed explanations of: Thruster principles Ion thruster plasma generators and accelerator grids Hollow cathodes Hall thrusters Ion and Hall thruster plumes Flight ion and Hall thrusters Based largely on research and development performed at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) and complemented with scores of tables, figures, homework problems, and references, Fundamentals of Electric Propulsion: Ion and Hall Thrusters is an indispensable textbook for advanced undergraduate and graduate students who are preparing to enter the aerospace industry. It also serves as an equally valuable resource for professional engineers already at work in the field.

Book A Review of United States Air Force and Department of Defense Aerospace Propulsion Needs

Download or read book A Review of United States Air Force and Department of Defense Aerospace Propulsion Needs written by National Research Council and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2007-01-14 with total page 288 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Rocket and air-breathing propulsion systems are the foundation on which planning for future aerospace systems rests. A Review of United States Air Force and Department of Defense Aerospace Propulsion Needs assesses the existing technical base in these areas and examines the future Air Force capabilities the base will be expected to support. This report also defines gaps and recommends where future warfighter capabilities not yet fully defined could be met by current science and technology development plans.
