It has been my greatest pleasure, for upwards of twenty years, to search amongst the ancient sedimentary rocks of our mountains and valleys for the remains of life they contain, and I have endeavoured to give in these pages a fairly complete description of those remains of life. The section on the Mollusca is the only account that has been published of these fossils, as they occur in the Skiddaw Slate Rocks.
