Book Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences

Download or read book Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences written by W. H. Shafer and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-14 with total page 307 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences was first conceived, published, and dis seminated by the Center for Information and Numerical Data Analysis and Synthesis (CINDAS) * at Purdue University in 1957, starting its coverage of theses with the academic year 1955. Beginning with Volume 13, the printing and dissemination phases of the ac tivity were transferred to University Microfilms/Xerox of Ann Arbor, Michigan, with the thought that such an arrangement would be more beneficial to the academic and general scientific and technical community. After five years of this joint undertaking we had concluded that it was in the interest of all concerned if the printing and distribution of the volume were handled by an international publishing house to assure improved service and broader dissemination. Hence, starting with Volume 18, Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences has been disseminated on a worldwide basis by Plenum Publishing Corporation of New York, and in the same year the coverage was broadened to include Canadian universities. All back issues can also be ordered from Plenum. We have reported in Volume 24 (thesis year 1979) a total of 10,033 theses titles from 26 Canadian and 215 United States universities. We are sure that this broader base for theses titles reported will greatly enhance the value of this important annual reference work. While Volume 24 reports these submitted in 1979, on occasion, certain universities do report theses submitted in previous years but not reported at the time.

Book Effect of Stage of Growth and Nitrogen Fertilization on the Chemical Composition and in Vitro Dry Matter Disappearance of Five Forage Species

Download or read book Effect of Stage of Growth and Nitrogen Fertilization on the Chemical Composition and in Vitro Dry Matter Disappearance of Five Forage Species written by E. Furlan and published by . This book was released on 1979 with total page 148 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The influence of nitrpgen fertilizer and growth stage on the chemical composition and in vitro dry matter disappearance of tall fescue and orchardgrass as well as the influence of growth stage on the chemical composition and in vitro dry matter dispappearance of alfalta, red clover and wheat harvested weekly from may 3 july 5, 1978, were studied. The experiments were conducted on Purdue University farms near Lafayette, Indiana. Two of nitrogen, 0 and 168 Kg/ha, as ammonium nitrate were applied on may 4, 1978 to the tall fescue and orchargrass plots. Data obtained for the five plant species included: IVDMD, CP, NDF, ADF, ADL, P. K. Ca, Mg, Mn, Fe, Cu and Zn. Mean orchardgrass data showed significantly higher values for IVDMD, P, K and Cu than tall fescue although the latter contained higher level of Mg. No marked differences between the two forage species for the other parameters were observred . Nitrogen fertilization significantly affected only the following factors: CP, NDF, ADF, K, Mg, Fe, Cu and Zn. On the average, nitrogen fertilizer increased the concentrations of: CF from 9.42% to 16.35%; K from 2.36% to 2.68%; Mg from .158% to .2210%; Fe from 57.4 ppm to 66.7 ppm; Cu from 8.70 ppm to 9.45 ppm and Zn from 17.8 ppm to 21.2 ppm. The mean values of NDF and ADF concentrations decreased from 57.3% to 53.5% and from 37.74% to 35.68%, respectively, due to the application of nitrogen fertilizer. All parameters studied were influenced significantly by the stage of growth in tall fescue and orchardgrass and most of them showed marked changes as red clover, alfalfa and wheat developed.

Book The Effects of Phosphorus and Nitrogen Fertilization on Tall Fescue Nutrient Content Yield and Baleage Quality

Download or read book The Effects of Phosphorus and Nitrogen Fertilization on Tall Fescue Nutrient Content Yield and Baleage Quality written by Cheyenne A. Arthur and published by . This book was released on 2015 with total page 110 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Tall fescue (Festuca arundinacea Schreb.) is a cool season perennial grass commonly used in year-round forage production systems. Producers often wrap large round bales of tall fescue in plastic. The fermented product of this practice, termed baleage, allows the forage to be stored for later feeding. During periods of rapid growth in the spring and the fall, the nutrient content of tall fescue can be imbalanced and cause nutritional disorders in grazing animals. To improve the nutrition of tall fescue, it is known that fertilization of phosphorus (P) can help improve leaf nutrient content of P, magnesium (Mg), and calcium (Ca). Additionally, nitrogen (N) fertilization is known to improve forage quality. The objective of this study was to examine the effects of both N and P spring fertilization on tall fescue nutrient content and yield, as well as the effects of these treatments on baleage quality from these pastures. A 2014-2015 field study utilized eight different two-acre pastures, each with a P rate of 0, 25, 50, or 100 lbs P/A and a N rate of 0 or 50 lbs N/A. These studies found that N and P fertilizer did not affect yield and did not change tall fescue leaf calcium or magnesium content; however leaf P was increased with P fertilization. N treatments increased baleage protein content in the 2014-2015 study, but other quality measures were not affected by N and P treatments. The 2015-2016 field study using only P treatments and more replicates will be completed and replicated an additional year to further elucidate effects of P fertilization on tall fescue baleage.

Book Nitrogen in the Environment

Download or read book Nitrogen in the Environment written by J.L. Hatfield and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2008-08-28 with total page 719 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nitrogen is one of the most critical elements for all life forms. In agricultural systems it is essential for the production of crops for feed, food, and fiber. The ever-increasing world population requires increasing use of nitrogen in agriculture to supply human needs for dietary protein. Worldwide demand for nitrogen will increase as a direct response to increasing population. Nitrogen in the Environment provides a wholistic perspective and comprehensive treatment of nitrogen. The scope of this book is diverse covering a range of topics and issues related to furthering our understanding of nitrogen in the environment at farm and national levels. Issues of nitrogen from its effects on crops and human nutrition to nitrogen in ground water, watersheds, streams, rivers, and coastal marine environments are discussed to provide a broad view of the problem and support scientists, researchers, and engineers in formulating comprehensive solutions. - The only source which presents an international, wholistic perspective of the effects of nitrogen in the environment with worldwide mitigation practices - Provides details on how to improve the quality of the environment by analyzing the development of emerging technologies - Develops strategies to be used by soil scientists, agronomists, hydrologists, and geophysicists for broad scale improvement of nitrogen efficiency
