Book 1001 Ways to Drive Defensively

Download or read book 1001 Ways to Drive Defensively written by Honesto Marcos and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2014-01-31 with total page 225 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In spite of better-engineered vehicles and roads, traffic accidents are increasing. Why? Drivers are now better prepared and trained. Accidents are also mostly preventable if only drivers learn defensive driving and accident avoidance techniques. It teaches among other things, to be helpful, courteous, and defensive regardless of who is at fault but who has the last clear chance to avoid the accident. Its easy to learn and to execute. Without knowledge of defensive driving and accident avoidance techniques, that person is considered half a driver. We cant continue the carnage in the roads; its expensive and can result in losing health and/or life. In this book, 1001 Ways to Drive Defensively, for your safety and driving enjoyment, the ideas are sometimes repeated because driving is a repetition of the same maneuvers for any trip made. To help remember the procedures, it is presented in different ways. It is also not organized chronologically because when we are behind the wheel, things dont happen in logical order; the situations and circumstances do dictate. The author has a bachelors degree in education. He has been a North American driver for almost fifty years, most of which were in Cold Alberta, Canada, where winter could last for six months. You guessed itlots of traffic accidents. Thus, the knowledge of defensive driving was a must. In Alberta, he was a schoolteacher, operated a driving school, a driving instructor and driver examiner. Author urges safety-conscious individuals not to wait any longer; get a copy of 1001 Ways to Drive Defensively. It makes driving enjoyable, less stressful, and most of all, youll experience safety whenever you are behind the wheel. Dont forget youre protecting the most expensive thing that was created, and no amount of money can replace it. This book is suitable for all drivers. However, discretion is necessary; you might save one or two accidents in what is left of your driving days. We all have to pitch in and help make the roads safer. No government can do it alone. We must not forget that other drivers are our friends we havent met. Why dont we help them and, in the process, help ourselves too? In an accident, regardless of who is at fault, well still suffer the same consequences. It takes only a second or two to help versus days or months recuperating. Some drivers make this statement, whatever I do, if other drivers make a mistake what can I do? Drivers that have this kind of reasoning forget that to be safe, one does not only drive their vehicle, follow traffic rules, but help other driver if they make a mistake. Apply defensive driving technique if one notices a condition that can develop into vehicle conflict. This book will make a perfect gift for anybody, for any occasion and they will be grateful and remember you for life.

Book What is Mindfulness

Download or read book What is Mindfulness written by AQEEL AHMED and published by AQEEL AHMED. This book was released on 2022-09-28 with total page 29 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The term “mindfulness" is a poor translation of the term “awareness” because it contains the term “mind" as the thinking, reasoning faculty, which has no bearing on awareness. In the days of the historical Buddha, many references to mind were to “awareness”, not the thinking mind. The Buddha is credited for saying, for example, that all things are made of mind. He meant that all that exists, is awareness. Hence the term “mindfulness" arose to refer to “awareness”, which is not any activity of the mind as thought, intention, motivation, choice and volition. The old Buddhist texts suggest that mindfulness can be developed, as if though awareness, the fact that we exist, is not by itself adequate for enlightenment: to be freed from all suffering. Whereas all that is actually “developed" is the ability to distinguish between thoughts and awareness: recognition. For example: You think you live in certain circumstances. “Circumstances” are an example of a set of thoughts that are confused with awareness (reality). Your “circumstances” are an interpretation of your reality, awareness. All interpretations are no other and no more than thoughts. When your “circumstances” disappear, it means you have seen through a set of thoughts that you formerly confused for reality. Then there is only here, now, beyond all circumstances. Now, since no circumstances exist, you cannot suffer from your circumstances. This growth of insight, flowing from the increasing capacity to recognize thoughts as only thoughts, not facts, comprises a loss of everything you know. By losing so many useless ideas over so many years of quietly sitting without seeking, you arrive at not-knowing. And so you can't say what truth is. You have merely acquired the capacity to identify and and drop falsehood. Then you cannot say what mindfulness is, bearing in mind that the fairly accurate term “awareness” is just another thought. You then only know that choice is thought. To choose mentally therefore demonstrates confusion, because you are choosing your thoughts and beliefs over awareness/ reality. To choose reality, you must desist totally from all choice, realizing there is no choice. There aren't different realities to choose from. There is only one reality: whatever you are experiencing right now. There is no choice here. So, you must simply learn to recognize that to choose one thought over another, one feeling over another, is a mistake. To arrive at this absolute freedom from all choice, all you need is awareness of yourself as subject. When you bring attention back to you, to see what you are going to do with your current challenging thoughts and feelings, you will notice you don't know what to do with them. Therefore, not knowing what to do, you don't do anything. This is awareness: mental inaction. There is no choosing here, only the experiencing of whatever happens to be.
