Book MIME Microprogrammable Minicomputer Emulator Phase II

Download or read book MIME Microprogrammable Minicomputer Emulator Phase II written by Thomas R. Hoyt and published by . This book was released on 1979 with total page 94 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report describes software and hardware enhancements made to an existing educationally oriented microprogrammable minicomputer (MIME) that was implemented using the Am2900 series of integrated circuits. Hardware changes included extensions of the machine architecture by incorporation of user-definable fields in the microword, corresponding to user-definable capabilities in the hardware. A microprogramming language was developed for the machine, as well as a translator. The instruction set of MIL-STD-1750, Airborne Computer Instruction Set Architecture was microprogrammed to demonstrate the utility of the translator and the computer. MIL-STD-1750 peculiar hardware was interfaced through the user-definable portion of the architecture. The results showed that a minicomputer instruction set could be successfully emulated using MIME. The final system of hardware, software, and documentation provides a valuable educational tool for studies of microprogramming, emulation, and computer control. (Author).

Book MIME Microprogrammable Minicomputer Emulator

Download or read book MIME Microprogrammable Minicomputer Emulator written by Richard E. Purvis and published by . This book was released on 1978 with total page 224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report addresses the design and fabrication of a microprogrammable, general purpose minicomputer specifically configured for use in an educational environment (AFIT's Digital Engineering Laboratory). In order to have utility as an instructional aid in the areas of computer control and microprogramming, it was determined that such a machine must have the following attributes: educationally oriented human interface, educationally oriented design, and user-microprogrammability. These high level attributes were then used as a basis for deriving functional and detail requirements. The Am2900 Bipolar Microprocessor Family was used as the basis for realizing the design which satisfied the defined requirements. The project resulted in hardware which was used by students in digital engineering classes and laboratory to investigate microprogramming and its application to emulation. This report includes representative microcode necessary to emulate sample PDP-11/03 instructions as a demonstration of MIME capabilities.

Book Microcode Development System for the Microprogrammable Minicomputer Emulator MIME

Download or read book Microcode Development System for the Microprogrammable Minicomputer Emulator MIME written by Glenn H. Carroll and published by . This book was released on 1980 with total page 65 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report covers the continuing efforts to develop the Microprogrammable Minicomputer Emulator (MIME) into a more flexible and user oriented machine. This consisted of the development of a Microprogram Development System for the MIME as well as hardware enhancements. The amount of writable control store was increased and the ability to load and dump control under program control was added. An LSI-11 microcomputer was added to the system to allow the user to communicate with the other computers in the system, and to transfer files from one computer to another. Several software tools were also produced: (1) a program to semi-automate the generation of the punched cards used to document the MIME's hardware configuration, (2) an executive that runs on the LSI-11 to communicate with the other computers and the user, and to transfer the microcode files, and (3) updating the MIME Modest Monitor to communicate on a higher level and add several new features.

Book Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences

Download or read book Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences written by W. H. Shafer and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-14 with total page 307 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences was first conceived, published, and dis seminated by the Center for Information and Numerical Data Analysis and Synthesis (CINDAS) * at Purdue University in 1957, starting its coverage of theses with the academic year 1955. Beginning with Volume 13, the printing and dissemination phases of the ac tivity were transferred to University Microfilms/Xerox of Ann Arbor, Michigan, with the thought that such an arrangement would be more beneficial to the academic and general scientific and technical community. After five years of this joint undertaking we had concluded that it was in the interest of all concerned if the printing and distribution of the volume were handled by an international publishing house to assure improved service and broader dissemination. Hence, starting with Volume 18, Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences has been disseminated on a worldwide basis by Plenum Publishing Corporation of New York, and in the same year the coverage was broadened to include Canadian universities. All back issues can also be ordered from Plenum. We have reported in Volume 24 (thesis year 1979) a total of 10,033 theses titles from 26 Canadian and 215 United States universities. We are sure that this broader base for theses titles reported will greatly enhance the value of this important annual reference work. While Volume 24 reports these submitted in 1979, on occasion, certain universities do report theses submitted in previous years but not reported at the time.

Book The Design and Development of a Hybrid Monitor Debugger System for the Microprogrammable Minicomputer Emulator MIME

Download or read book The Design and Development of a Hybrid Monitor Debugger System for the Microprogrammable Minicomputer Emulator MIME written by Joseph J Zelasco (Jr) and published by . This book was released on 1979 with total page 156 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report describes the design and development of a monitor/debugger system for the Microprogrammable Minicomputer Emulator (MIME). The MIME is an educationally oriented, user-microprogrammable, general purpose minicomputer that will be used in classroom and laboratory instruction and student design projects in the areas of computer control, emulation, and microprogrmming. The MIME Monitor/Debugger System will assist students in developing microprograms to run on the MIME and will also assist in the final integration and checkout of the MIME hardware. This report analyzes the conceptual implementations of monitor/debugger systems and applies these implementations to the MIME computer. The analysis results are presented which recommend that a dual processor hybrid monitor/debugger implementatin should be developed for the MIME. This implementation of a hybrid system combines the flexibility of software with the speed of hardware. The MIME Monitor/Debugger System design presented in this report when fabricated and tested, will produce a monitor/debugger system that is interactive with the system user, has the flexibility to encompass changing user requirements, and has the speed to monitor and control the real-time operation of the MIME computer.
