Book excerpt: WHO WOULD READ THIS BOOK ANYWAY? (a special note from the Author) A lot of people have told me (including my wife and kids), that no one is ever going to want to read this dumb dog book. And, even if they were willing to read it, they told me for sure- no one would pay to read it. I'M NOT LISTENING TO THEM. I know most people like dogs more than they like people and spend a ton of money on doggie stuff because it makes them feel good. So for those of you who doubt there is a market for this book- here is the proof: At this very minute, as I am writing this, I am sitting on an American Airlines jet. I have just reached into the seat compartment in front of me and pulled out this SkyMall product catalog. Some of the products in this catalog I just found available for dog owners to buy- that will sell in the millions this year include: dog beds that keeps your dog stay cool and comfortable when resting, dog ramps that will help your dog get on your bed or sofa, portable dog feeders so your dog will never go hungry when you are not home on time from work, lotion that prevents dog tear stains under the eyes, fresh bowl savers- lids for doggie food bowls- to keep it fresh, poop boxes- the economical way to handle doggie waste, walk thru pet gates, doggie boosters for senior dogs- helps them get in and out of the cars easily, bark free- the safe way to prevent dogs from excessive barking, pet wheel away- take your dog whoever you go, back seat barriers- that keep your dogs safe in the car, the ultimate pet feeding and watering kit that prevents your dogs from overeating and here is my favorite- the personalized doggie garden bench - to honor your loved deceased dog. (I guess you bury your best friend in front or underneath the bench.) I rest my case. Buy this book and make yourself feel good - you will enjoy it! Sincerely- Michael Rosedale P.S. go to www.millirosedale.com and post YOUR favorite dog and pet stories. Maybe they will end up in my next book!!!!!!!!!!

Book excerpt: Liz is a very unique person. Even though she is well over one hundred years old she looks like she is in her early twenties. Because she ages so slowly she is reluctant to get deeply involved with others because she knows she will eventually lose them. She also has a knack for feeling other peoples feelings. Given her talents, she has vowed that she will spent some of her time and energy trying to help people feel better by aiding them in solving their problems, big or small. It is not a totally selfless act since she has to feel all the bad feelings of others. It is more about self preservation of her sanity. This vow leads her to a handsome southern gentleman named Aubrey, assistant director at the Columbia Art Museum, who is having problems with his brother. Then three Monets mysteriously disappear from the art gallery, and his brother could be to blame. Liz decides to try to help him out with his dilemma and the two of them, along with Lizs father, end up trying to recover the three stolen Monet paintings. The search for the stolen paintings takes the trio to London and Paris. While there they have time for sightseeing and romance, if Liz will only allow herself to fall in love.

Book Walking with Miss Millie

Download or read book Walking with Miss Millie written by Tamara Bundy and published by Penguin. This book was released on 2018-07-03 with total page 242 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “A memorable and lovely debut.”--Kirkus Reviews “Walking with Miss Millie is full of subtle wisdom. Its ending is satisfying though sobering and there are elements of this story that stay with you long after the last page has been read.”--Karen English, Coretta Scott King Honor Award Author A poignant middle grade debut about the friendship between a white girl and an elderly black woman in the 1960s South Alice is angry at having to move to Rainbow, Georgia—a too small, too hot, dried-up place she’s sure will never feel like home. Then she gets put in charge of walking her elderly neighbor’s dog. But Clarence won’t budge without Miss Millie, so Alice and Miss Millie walk him together. Strolling with Clarence and Miss Millie quickly becomes the highlight of Alice's day and opens her eyes to all sorts of new things to marvel over. During their walks, they meet a mix of people, and Alice sees that although there are some bullies and phonies, there are plenty of kind folks, too. Miss Millie shares her family’s story with Alice, showing her the painful impact segregation has had on their town. And with Miss Millie, Alice is finally able to express her own heartache over why her family had to move there in the first place. Tamara Bundy’s beautifully written debut celebrates the wonder and power of friendship: how it can be found when we least expect it and make any place a home.
