Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Latter-Day Saints' Millennial Star, Vol. 69: May 30, 1907 I desire to impress this thought upon your minds, for I want you to understand that this is the meaning intended to be conveyed by the words, entering into the rest of God. Let me assure you that that man who is not thoroughly established in the doctrine of Christ, who has not yielded his whole soul unto the Lord, and to the Gospel He has taught to the world, has not yet entered into that rest. He is still at sea, so to speak, wandering, unstable, lacking firmness, lacking the faith that cannot be moved, ready to be overtaken by the cunning and craftiness of him who lies in wait to deceive and mislead into error and darkness. While he that has received the testimony of Jesus Christ in his heart, he that has yielded his all to the kingdom of God and to the will of the Father, is so established. His heart is fixed; his mind is made up; doubts have been dispelled; fears have all been removed; he knows in whom to trust; he is thoroughly established in his purposes and in his determination that, as for him and his house he will serve God, keep His commandments and walk, as far as it is possible for human creatures to walk, in purity of life, in honor, fidelity, and uprightness before the Lord. I thank my God that this spirit and feeling of unrest has been removed from my thoughts and mind with reference to the work in which we are engaged; and that the Lord has given me assur ance that is beyond all other things in relation to this matter. I rejoice in the Gospel; I rejoice in the testimony of the Spirit of God in my heart; I rejoice in the testimony of the Prophet Joseph Smith; I rejoice in every principle of the Gospel of Jesus Christ that we have become acquainted with, so far as my knowledge goes. I cannot ask for, I do not want anything better than the principles of life and salvation revealed in this great plan of re demption restored to the earth in the latter days. This book was released on 2017-12-26 with total page 20 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Latter-Day Saints' Millennial Star, Vol. 69: October 10, 1907 Man has faith in man, but how often we are afraid to trust our Father in Heaven. He has placed us here, and His providence is over all. Everything is done by Him in order. There are certain laws which govern the universe, and certain laws that govern our lives, and if we have faith enough to bring ourselves into line with those laws, we are correspondingly happy. If we rebel, we pro duce friction, which causes pain. If we have an intelligent faith in God, and are keeping His laws as far as we understand them, everything that happens to us must be the best thing that could happen at that particular time, and if we have absolute faith in our Father we shall acknowledge this, although in our ignorance we may not be able to see it just then. It is this absolute faith that is needed to take the sting out of life and make it happy. We must not depend upon circumstances for our happiness, but we must learn to trust our Father implicitly. Faith has done mighty things. By it we can obtain all things. Paul said, I can do all things through Christ which strengthen eth me. That does away with all I can'ts. By faith the humble fishermen of Galilee were able to teach the world. By faith the Elders of Israel can do the same. Though they may not be highly educated, they can confute the learned men of the day. In the eleventh chapter of Hebrews we see what faith can do. Take, for instance, the Prophet Joseph Smith, whose faith brought God the Eternal Father and His Son Jesus Christ from heaven to give instructions to a mere boy. When I was quite a girl I began to may for a certain thing. I prayed twice daily for twelve years, and then God abundantly answered my prayers in a way far beyond what I had hoped or even thought of. God lives, and by faith, if we keep His laws, we can claim from Him what we ask. Jesus said, If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done. Paul said to the former-day saints, Be careful for nothing; but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known unto God. We need have no fear, we need not worry over things, for all things work together for good to them that love God. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Latter-Day Saints' Millennial Star, Vol. 69: August 29, 1907 As we have seen by the foregoing, in order for our prayers to be acceptable to God, they must be offered up in faith and sincerity. We must also offer up our petitions in the name of Jesus Christ, the only begotten Son of the Father. With the Lord there is neither variableness nor shadow of turn ing; He is the same, yesterday, to-day and forever; He is just as ready, just as willing to respond to the requests of His children in these last days as He was to hear and answer the prayers of His faithful sons and daughters in former dispensations. Tens of thousands of Latter-day Saints testify to the truth of this state ment. N 0 people who have ever lived upon this earth have had more direct answers to prayer than the Latter-day Saints have had. How often have we seen the promise of the Messiah verified: Whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, that shall ye receive. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Latter-Day Saints' Millennial Star, Vol. 69: December 5, 1907 Here is another sample of Mr. C. J. B's logic. We quote from page eight of his tract: But there is another scripture (and the only one that I am aware of with any apparent force in this direction) which is much relied on to prove that baptism is for the remission of sins; the words of our Lord Jesus to Nicodemus: 'verily, verily, I say unto thee, except a man be born of water and of the spirit he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.' (john 3: The water here, it is contended, is baptism. But the Lord is speak ing of a new birth, and baptism is a burial not a birth. See Rom. 6: 1-16. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Latter-Day Saints' Millennial Star, Vol. 69: January 17, 1907 The World - Peter, would you have us believe that the Gospel is preached to those who die in ignorance of its divine truths? Peter - I am surprised to hear you ask such a question when so much has been written on the matter. Jesus Christ came, not to save the living only, but the dead also. He declared that if He were lifted up from the earth He would draw all men unto Him, (john 12: and that the hour was coming when the dead, as well as the living, would hear His voice. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Latter-Day Saints' Millennial Star, Vol. 69: November 21, 1907 But let us remember that by the way of the cross the Savior won the victory over death, hell, and the grave, so that at the very place of apparent defeat He triumphed. This teaches us the greatest lesson we can learn - the highest teaching we can receive in that, if we will do the will of God, we Shall make our calling and election sure. Obedience to the Gospel of Jesus Christ will involve and demand sacrifices. If our lives are conditioned to the will of God we will be called upon to endure trials and persecutions, because the same Spiritual powers which opposed Jesus Christ are in antagonism with the work of God at this very hour. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Latter-Day Saints' Millennial Star, Vol. 69: November 28, 1907 Satan trembles when he sees The weakest saint upon his knees. The prayer of active faith will erect an impenetrable barrier around us, so that in the moment of temptation we can find safety and deliverance in approaching the Lord for strength and wisdom to overcome. The deep fascination connected with temptation often urges us to recklessly yield, without regarding the sad consequences. Our carnal natures are tempted and we are apt to hastily grasp an opportunity to satisfy them, but if at such peri lous times we would but for a moment wrestle with ourselves, with a reflective and prayerful mind, the evil inclinations would vanish. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Latter-Day Saints' Millennial Star, Vol. 69: February 21, 1907 Sometimes, singularly enough, people are a little proud of this weariness. -they regard it as a. Distinction to take no interest in anything. It seems to them to indicate a certain superiority never to feel any enthusiasm or ardor. I once read a novel in which the chief superiority of the hero appeared to be that he was always a little weary. The writer apparently thought that to be blase and prematurely tired of life was a proof of genius. The young man had lived some twenty or thirty years, and considered God's world no longer worthy of his attention. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Latter-Day Saints' Millennial Star, Vol. 69: August 15, 1907 What a change has come over that part of the world since those days! Utah, which was then a barren waste, has become a fruit ful field. Through the blessings of Jehovah, a land, which was once the home of wild beasts and venomous reptiles, has been transformed into a garden of roses. Thousands of fine homes dot the land in which at one time could be seen only the dilapidated Wigwam of the poor redskin, the American Indian. Had it not been for the unfaltering faith which they had in God, and for the power which He gave them, the Saints would never have been able to accomplish the marvelous achievements which they have accomplished, and which have called forth the admiration of thou sands who have visited our State. At the great expositions in America our fruits have been awarded first prize, and our wheat has been sought for by the merchants of the Orient. Through the blessings of the Lord the soil of Utah has been made to produce an abundance for both man and beast, while the mountains have yielded their rich treasures of gold and silver. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Latter-Day Saints' Millennial Star, Vol. 69: June 27, 1907 In reply to this question I will say that the Elders of the Church have not been sent into the world to tear down any religion. The instructions which we have received from the Lord on this matter are very explicit. They are as follows: Contend against no church save it be the church of the devil. (doe. And Gov. 18: We uphold everything that is good and pure and holy and true, for such cometh of God; we condemn everything that is Sinful, nu holy, unjust and false, for all these come from the evil one. We have been sent into the world, not to condemn the world, but to teach the people the true plan of life and salvation. We have come to tell them, as Jesus told the people in His day, that there is but one way, but one gate, but one straight and narrow path leading to the kingdom of heaven; that there is but one Lord, one faith and one baptism. We have come to tell them that there can be but one true Christian Church; that Christ is not divided, that He is not the author of contention, but of peace; that those who call themselves by His name Should be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment, and that there should be no division among them. Can any reasonable objection be raised to such teaching? IS it not strictly scriptural? Would it not be a glorious sight to see Christians of all denominations united together in love and fellowship, all Speaking the same thing? What a testimony that would be to the world of the divinity of Christ and of the power of His holy Gospel. To this end the Elders of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints are working, and are meeting with most gratifying success, too.
