Book Leadership in the Indian Army

Download or read book Leadership in the Indian Army written by V.K. Singh and published by Penguin Random House India Private Limited. This book was released on 2023-11-30 with total page 456 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Unlike traditional biographies of combat leaders, which focus primarily on military operations or regimental histories, in this book Major General V.K. Singh concentrates on personal accounts, anecdotes and reminiscences in order to highlight these leaders’ personalities, and to draw out the human face behind the military facade. Through the stories of these twelve military leaders, the book also throws new light on several historical events and the role of political leaders during India’s fight for independence and the partitioning of the subcontinent. He gives an overview of India’s military history after independence, including major operations, and describes many hitherto unknown or little-known incidents concerning smaller operations like Nathu La in 1967 and Goa in 1962. Written records tend to glorify the actions of battalions as well as individuals, Singh says, magnifying achievements while suppressing the mistakes and glossing over failures. Leadership in the Indian Army provides a truer picture of the strength of character and convictions of each of these leaders. A must-read for anyone interested in India’s military history.

Book excerpt: Field Marshal Sam Hormusji Framji Jamshedji Manekshaw, fondly known as Sam Bahadur, was one of the greatest war heroes and military leaders India has produced. He became a household name in India and was hailed as a legendary soldier and an inspiration to his fellow citizens for crafting India's greatest military victory in the 1971 Indo-Pak war as Chief of Staff (1969-73) of the Indian armed forces. Spanning four decades, he served the country gloriously through five wars—World War II, The Indo-Pakistani War of Partition (1947), the Sino-Indian War (1962), and the India-Pakistan wars (1965 and 1971). The first Indian Army officer to be promoted to the five-star rank of Field Marshal, Sam Bahadur continues to be the most admired war hero of our army chiefs. He will remain an example of self-sacrifice, personal bravery, and steadfast devotion to duty that began before India's independence, and will deservedly live in the annals of the military history of India forever.

While the world has transformed in every conceivable way in the last one hundred years, the principles of leadership have stood the test of time. The volatility and complexity of the regional and international environment are the new normal. This has necessitated a de novo examination of leadership challenges in the context of the VUCA environment and the digital revolution. The 15 chapters which comprise this offering cover a wide canvas of the nuances and imperatives of leadership, matched with outstanding authors of proven credentials. The book, while being focussed on military leadership, should also appeal to a wider cross-section of academia, governance professionals, the corporate world and all other fields where leadership plays a defining role. The Indian Armed Forces are the ultimate guarantors of the nation's security and well-being. How this instrument of last resort performs will be determined by the leadership that steers the organisation in peace and leads it in war. The concluding part of this book examines how to produce leaders who are steadfast and visionary, who will measure up to the highest standards of military skills, and who possess the strength of character and mental resilience to carry the burdens that modern warfare conditions impose. 'Men of Steel #Military Leadership for India', is a collection of very high value essays by renowned authors and co-edited by two very distinguished military leaders, who have epitomized leadership at the tactical, operational and strategic levels. Book Military Leadership for Tomorrow

Download or read book Military Leadership for Tomorrow written by Jasjit Singh and published by K W Publishers Pvt Limited. This book was released on 2009 with total page 210 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A leader, military, political or in any other profession, is inevitably a lonely person, and yet a successful leader, especially in the military profession, must be a very sensitive person to be able to lead successfully through the motivation, dedication and loyalty of those he leads. In the military profession, of course, this acquires even greater salience since the profession, at one level, demands a willingness and readiness to make the supreme sacrifice, and, at another, involves victory or defeat of the country that nurtures its military power. We need strategists at all levels; and the chiefs of the armed forces of 2040 are already in active service. They would have to provide military professional advice to the political leadership at crucial times under enormous uncertainties where actionable intelligence would not be available, and their own knowledge and experience would have to guide them. This volume brings together eminent experts well versed in the theory and practice of leadership and the knowledge that needs to be available to them. The issues explored in this volume are equally applicable to other professions, especially in the corporate world.

Book The Brand Called You

Download or read book The Brand Called You written by Ashutosh Garg and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2018-12-18 with total page 163 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There is no one else in the world like you. Your personal brand has been registered in your name and patented with your persona even though there may be hundreds of people carrying the same name. Creating, building, and developing your personal brand is entirely in your own hands. Conversely, destroying or diminishing your brand is also only in your own hands. Your brand is the essence of your own unique story. The key to this is reaching deep inside yourself and pulling out the authentic, the unique 'you', from within your own self. What we do with our own brand name could be the difference between being very successful and not so successful. This is as true for personal branding as it is for business branding. The Brand Called You outlines how critical it is for each one of us to understand the power and vulnerabilities of our brand and invest wisely and consistently in our persona and our name. Remember, the only legacy you will leave behind in the world is your name.

Book Mission Victory India

Download or read book Mission Victory India written by Vinay B. Dalvi and published by . This book was released on 2019 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Over the last 70 years, ever since independence, the Indian Armed Forces have been repeatedly tested by multifarious threats and challenges from our adversaries across the border. The conflicts/wars of 1947/48, 1962, 1965, 1971 & 1999 have been acid tests for the Indian military might, economic strength, united will, resilience and resolve. Have the armed forces and nation learnt any valuable lessons from these wars? Sadly, India has failed to honestly review, identify and overcome many of their military weaknesses and shortcomings which are now deep rooted problems and unresolved issues. Equipping and arming the armed forces is an imperative need that must be met. However, there is a critical and neglected dimension, that of `quality military manpower` and `military combat leadership`, that needs paramount attention. The 21st century brings threats in the form of designer, hybrid, cyber, aerospace and nuclear wars. These are in addition to the conventional wars that are still a reality today. All these, in totality, constitute a multiplicity of threats confronting their collective military might. Enhanced quality `combat military leadership` at all levels would surely help in effectively confronting these challenges. Mission Victory India is Volume 5 of the Victory India Campaign(2010-2018) books. While retaining its leadership enhancement perspective, the campaign is no more restricted to issues of selection and training of military officers but goes way beyond to cover numerous complex issues of military and national importance; with focus solely on strengthening the armed forces and nation.

Book Reality and Belief of Indian Military Affairs

Download or read book Reality and Belief of Indian Military Affairs written by K. K. Singh and published by K.K. Publications. This book was released on with total page 252 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: India does not admit easily to broad generalizations. It is an extraordinarily complex and diverse society and Indian elites show little evidence of having thought coherently and systematically about national strategy, although this situation may now be changing. Despite India`s cultural greatness and longevity as a civilization, Indian history is often dimly perceived and poorly recorded; given an oral tradition in imparting past events and the destruction of most records, much of this history is difficult to verify. Until the middle of the eighteenth century, Indians knew little of their national history and seemed uninterested in it. Four principal factors help to explain Indian actions and views about power and security: Indian geography; the discovery of Indian history by Indian elites over the past 150 years; Indian cultural and social structures and belief systems: and the British rule. Geography has imparted a view of the Indian subcontinent as a single strategic entity, with various topographical features contributing to an insular perspective and a tradition of localism and particularism. India`s unique culture reinforced this unity and imparted, first, a tendency toward diversity and accommodation to existing realities and, second, a highly developed capacity to absorb dissimilar concepts and theories. This tolerance was strengthened by the caste system, which also helped maintain an extraordinarily durable system and ethic for social relations.

Incisive introductory essays to each section highlight themes and connections. Eric B. Rosenbach joins the editorial team for this edition, helping infuse the text with fresh perspectives. Book The Framework of Military Leadership

Download or read book The Framework of Military Leadership written by Murat Şengöz and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2020-01-27 with total page 131 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides an eclectic and meta-analytic study on the factors affecting military leadership and its components, taking into account both current and future security paradigms. The contemporary security environment is characterized by an increase in the number of wars, and more human-induced problems than ever before. The first duty of armies today is generally the establishment of security. Today’s battles are carried out in a vague and flexible warfare environment, which can be transformed rapidly. For this reason, military leaders need to be more versatile, with rapid decision-making capacities. In order to realize their duties, they have to focus more on the quality of their military leadership, which is critical to the establishment of secure and peaceful environments. Today, high-level army commanders have to behave more like diplomats, intellectuals and academics than ever before.
