Download or read book Manual of Arms written by W J Hardee and published by Leonaur Limited. This book was released on 2017-04-19 with total page 164 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The foot soldier during the American Civil War This book will be of particular interest to all those who study the American Civil War, since it details, using text and diagrams, the drills of the ordinary infantryman on both sides of the conflict. The book confines itself to the drills of the foot soldier, as they appear in the W J Hardee and Silas Casey texts. There are, to be clear, few differences between these drills, but this makes the book authentically useful from a Confederate and Union Army perspective, as these procedures were applied throughout the war. Containing illustrations original to each edition, this text has been enhanced by the inclusion of the management and cleaning guide for the 1863 pattern Springfield Rifle Musket which includes useful and interesting illustrations of the component parts of the weapon. This is a useful book for modellers, wargamers, reenactors, television and film companies, professional and amateur theatrical companies, and for parades and other events. Leonaur editions are newly typeset and are not facsimiles; each title is available in softcover and hardback with dustjacket; our hardbacks are cloth bound and feature gold foil lettering on their spines and fabric head and tail bands.

Book Rifle Training for War Classic Reprint

Download or read book Rifle Training for War Classic Reprint written by S. W. Brookhart and published by . This book was released on 2015-08-05 with total page 160 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Rifle Training for War The armistice is signed and peace is coming, but rifle training in peace is not different from rifle training in war. The one is reasonable preparation, the other immediate necessity. Both have the same object when we are considering military training. This training may be divided into two parts: First, the training of the individual; second, the training of the leaders and their units in collective fire. It is the purpose of this publication to treat only of individual training, and it will begin with a discussion of its theory and relative importance. Before the war there grew up a theory, based largely upon German precept if not propaganda, to the effect that individual rifle training was unimportant if not a military detriment. It was variously stated that "Expert riflemen will not make as many hits in war as will average shots;" that "Individual instruction should not be given at ranges greater than 500 yards;" that "Such training as the soldier receives on the target range plays but a minor part;" that "At 900 yards poor marksmen will obtain 10 times as many hits as good marksmen;" that "When the range is unknown the superior skill of the excellent marksman works to his positive disadvantage;" and that, firing in modern battle, is "often conducted at ranges of 2,000 yards or even more."
