Book excerpt: A study of the roles of the U.S. Navy in assisting the U.S. Coast Guard in enforcing domestic law is examined through historical background, legal implications, and present guidance to Navy commands. The purpose of the paper is to determine the history which results in present Navy/Coast Guard guidance and to provide a succinct, general set of guidelines for the conduct of direct Navy involvement in law enforcement activities. An examination of the establishment of the Posse Comitatus Act, its reasons for existence, the changes made to it, and the subsequent directives implementing present policy is conducted. Book The Military and Law Enforcement in Peace Operations

Download or read book The Military and Law Enforcement in Peace Operations written by Cornelius Friesendorf and published by Lit Verlag. This book was released on 2010 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: After war, police forces are often unable or unwilling to put pressure on suspected war criminals, organized crime groups, and other spoilers of sustainable peace. This book sheds light on the role of international military forces in post-conflict law enforcement. Drawing on numerous interviews, it shows that EU and NATO military forces have not systematically fought serious crime in Bosnia-Herzegovina and Kosovo. International actors need to better balance their own interests as well as the requirement to separate military and police functions with the urgent need to protect individuals in war-torn countries. The policy recommendations in the book are aimed at contributing to more effective, efficient, and legitimate peace operations in the Balkans and beyond.

Well, for one, this book contains all the revisions as of January 2020. Putting all this material in hard copy is critical. Sure, you can access the regulations on a web site - if you happen to have an internet connection. But, if you are on the road or in the courtroom, nothing beats having the book right there. Turning the pages is less likely to annoy the judge than constant clacking on a keyboard. Each of the books published by 4th Watch Publishing Co. cover a wide range of topics that are carefully designed to work together to produce a holistic approach to security primarily for government agencies and constitute the best practices used by industry. This holistic strategy to security covers the gamut of security subjects from development of secure encryption standards for communication and storage of information while at rest to how best to recover from a cyber-attack. Why buy a regulation you can download for free? We print this so you don't have to. Some documents are only distributed in electronic media. Some online docs are missing some pages or the graphics are barely legible. When a new regulation is released, a security professional prints it out, punches holes and puts it in a 3-ring binder. While this is not a big deal for a 5 or 10-page document, many government regulations are over 100 pages and printing a large document is a time-consuming effort. So, a security professional is spending hours simply printing out the tools needed to do the job. That's time that could be better spent doing work. We publish these documents so security professionals can focus on what they were hired to do.

Book The Posse Comitatus Act and the United States Army

Download or read book The Posse Comitatus Act and the United States Army written by Combat Studies Institute Press and published by . This book was released on 2019-07-18 with total page 94 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Anytime the use of US Armed Forces in support of civil authorities is considered, government and military leaders, pundits, and citizens reflexively turn to the Posse Comitatus Act for guidance. Since 9/11, the US Armed Forces face an increased likelihood that they will be called on to participate in actions typically viewed as civil matters. Many have also called for an increased role for the US Armed Forces in responding to natural disasters. Though many constitutional provisions, laws, and legal rulings govern this question, in the minds of many, the Posse Comitatus Act has prominence. Most individuals think they know what the Posse Comitatus Act allows and disallows; most of them are wrong.
