Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A Military Attache in Japan (1929-1933), a work of history with the soul of a novel, is the compelling memoir of the late United States Army Colonel James G. McIlroy's service in Japan as Military Attache from 1929 to 1933. Brought to life with sensitivity by the author's daughter, Jane S. McIlroy, Colonel McIlroy's narrative takes readers on a wondrous journey through mid-twentieth-century political and military events. At the same time. Colonel McIlroy writes in delicious detail about his own military career, describing his appointment and ultimate service in Japan. He is an observant traveler. Come along with the Colonel as he creates vivid and revealing pictures of the Japanese Emperor and his family, Shinto ceremonies, elegant dinners, Japanese baths, and beautiful geishas in attendance at diplomatic functions. Interestingly, underlying much of the diplomatic context is Colonel McIlroy's main task-to learn how best to bomb Japan. It is information that will have a profound impact on history. Book jacket.

Book excerpt: LTC (US Army, Retired) Roy Peterson served as an Assistant Army Attaché inMoscow during the peak of the Cold War Years from 1983-1985. American Attaché in the Moscow Maelstrom is a carefully crafted work that opens the window on what it was like to serve American interests in that intense environment. Book The Air Attache in the American Embassy

Download or read book The Air Attache in the American Embassy written by Thomas Canady, Jr. and published by Publishamerica Incorporated. This book was released on 2005-04-01 with total page 229 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this book the author relates experiences derived from two assignments as an air attache on duty in a United States embassy. The first was as an assistant attache in Indonesia during a period when relations between Indonesia and the United States were severely strained. Anti-Americanism ran rampant at the time and was manifested by frequent hostile demonstrations before the American Embassy in Djakarta. The second assignment as air attache was in Spain in a totally different atmosphere where Americans were welcomed. Thus the author is able to describe attache duty from two entirely different perspectives. Between attache assignments, the author served as a Plans action officer in Air Force Headquarters in the Pentagon and as director of operations of an air transport unit in Vietnam. These periods are also described.
