Book The Palgrave Handbook of Race and Ethnic Inequalities in Education

Download or read book The Palgrave Handbook of Race and Ethnic Inequalities in Education written by Peter A.J. Stevens and published by Springer. This book was released on 2019-07-05 with total page 1318 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This authoritative, state-of-the-art reference work builds on its first edition to provide a cutting-edge systematic review of the relationship between race/ethnicity and educational inequality. Studying 25 different national contexts drawn from every inhabited continent on earth and building upon material from the earlier edition, the work analyses educational policies, practices and research on minority students, immigrants and refugees. The editors and contributors explore principal research traditions from countries as diverse as Argentina, China, Norway and South Africa, examining the factors promoting social cohesion as well as considerations regarding the use of international test score data. Seamlessly integrating findings of national reviews, the editors and contributors analyse how national contexts of race/ethnic relations shape the character and content of educational inequalities, and deftly map out new directions for future research in the area. Global in its perspective and definitive in content, this one-stop volume will be an indispensable reference resource for a wide range of academics, students and researchers in the fields of education, sociology, race and ethnicity studies and social policy. Book Young Migrants and Plurilingualism in Schools

Download or read book Young Migrants and Plurilingualism in Schools written by Fiona Smythe and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2024-10-14 with total page 404 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In many parts of the world, there is a growing interest in how existing linguistic knowledge is involved in the acquisition of further languages; in particular how learning the language of schooling can be improved through inclusion of students’ home languages. This theme gathers around it a rich international network of multilingual researchers interested in promoting the benefits of bilingual and plurilingual education, the recognition of linguistic and cultural diversity in schools, and strategies for supporting young migrants to succeed in schools. Young Migrants and Plurilingualism in Schools: A Comparative Study of Language Diversity within Education Systems in France and Aotearoa, New Zealand presents findings from the author’s Ph.D. study carried out during 2017–2019 with young migrants and their teachers in France and New Zealand. These findings provide evidence for plurilingual learning spaces as improving student participation, interaction, sense of wellbeing and social cohesion—all elements of democratic coexistence in culturally and linguistically diverse societies.

Book Die Kinder der Immigration

Download or read book Die Kinder der Immigration written by Ernstpeter Ruhe and published by Königshausen & Neumann. This book was released on 1999 with total page 252 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book The Routledge Handbook of Plurilingual Language Education

Download or read book The Routledge Handbook of Plurilingual Language Education written by Enrica Piccardo and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2021-09-21 with total page 645 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Routledge Handbook of Plurilingual Language Education is the first comprehensive publication on plurilingualism, offering a multidimensional reflection on the nature, scope, and potential of plurilingualism in language education and society. Authored by a range of internationally recognized experts, the Handbook provides an overview of key perspectives on plurilingualism in a complementary range of fields. After a comprehensive introduction to the concept itself, 24 chapters are organized in six parts, each examining plurilingualism through a different lens. The Handbook spans historical, philosophical, and sociological dimensions, examines cognitive and neuroscientific implications, and the limitations of boundaries before moving to a pragmatic perspective: How is plurilingual language education developing in different contexts around the world? How can it contribute to language revitalization? How can it be expected to develop in education, digital spaces, and society as a whole? Written for an international audience, this handbook is an indispensable reference tool for scholars in education and applied linguistics, educators, graduate and post-graduate students, and policy makers.

Book Romanian in Migration Contexts

Download or read book Romanian in Migration Contexts written by Aurelia Merlan and published by Narr Francke Attempto Verlag. This book was released on 2024-06-17 with total page 342 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As a result of migration, more than 25% of Romanian L1 speakers live outside of Romania and Moldova - mostly in other European countries, but also in America and Australia. In the meantime, many second-generation speakers have become part of this group. The situation has resulted in various different constellations of language contact, both within the group of Romance languages and amongst typologically different and unrelated languages. Despite the fact that these contact scenarios present a wide range of research perspectives, there have been hardly any studies on Romanian as a language of migrants up until now. The volume Romanian in the Context of Migration brings together contributions on the Romanian language in Europe and in North America in the context of current migration linguistics. It includes studies on Romanian in Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Portugal, Slovenia and Spain and on the Romanian of those who return to Romania and Moldova. All diese Kontaktszenarien eröffnen vielfältige Forschungsperspektiven.
