Book Microwave Properties of Magnetic Films

Download or read book Microwave Properties of Magnetic Films written by C. Vittoria and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1993 with total page 254 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Previous works on this subject tended to be too specialised, making it difficult for students who lack the necessary background in this subject to follow. This book attempts to remedy the situation by providing students from other disciplines the basic background necessary to understand the discussion in this book. In this way, it provides a bridge between basic science and applications/course work. The book begins by presenting the fundamental principles of microwave materials using electrical engineering terminology, hence providing the necessary background before it discusses well-known physical concepts or solid state. Having reviewed the basic concepts, it goes on to discuss a systematic procedure of describing the microwave properties of materials. The organised and comprehensive nature of the book makes it a very useful reading and reference source.

Book Microwave and Millimeter Wave Magnetic Solitons and Chaos in Magnetic Thin Films and Thin Film Superlattices

Download or read book Microwave and Millimeter Wave Magnetic Solitons and Chaos in Magnetic Thin Films and Thin Film Superlattices written by and published by . This book was released on 1995 with total page 13 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The objectives of this program were (1) the experimental and theoretical investigation of microwave magnetic envelope (MME) solitons, (2) the application of Brillouin light scattering (BLS) techniques to the study of nonlinear magnetic excitations in magnetic films, (3) the use of BLS techniques to understand the magnetic properties of magnetic thin film sandwiches and multilayers, and (4) the microwave/millimeter wave characterization of hexagonal ferrite materials. One personal objective was to reestablish a U.S. presence in (2) and (3). A wide variety of MME soliton phenomena were observed experimentally and modeled theoretically, including backward volume wave, forward volume wave, and surface wave dark solitons, multiple solitons, and soliton collisions. BLS techniques were used to characterize the critical modes for subsidiary absorption, parallel pumping, and resonance saturation spin wave instability processes in thin magnetic films. BLS techniques were also used to study magnetic excitations in Fe/Cr/Fe sandwich films as a function of field orientation and scattering configuration. The low power loss properties of hexagonal ferrite materials were characterized from 10 to 100GHz.

Book Microwave Properties of Thin Ferrite Films

Download or read book Microwave Properties of Thin Ferrite Films written by L. M. Silber and published by . This book was released on 1962 with total page 8 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The magnetic properties of thin ferrite films were investigated both by conventional microwave methods, and by observation of the dc 'Hall effect' voltage which is associated with ferromagnetic resonance. These measurements allow determination of the saturation magnetization, resonance linewidth or relaxation time, gyromagnetic ratio, extraordinary Hall coefficient, and magnetoresistance anisotropy. While the 'Hall effect' measurement can be made on films too thin to measure by conventional microwave techniques, the 'Hall' voltage is proportional to the microwave current density, and thus is largest in films of high conductivity. It has been possible thus far to study ferromagnetic resonance by the dc signal only in magnetite, while films of magnetite and nickel, magnesium, manganese, copper ferrites, mixed ferrites, and ferri-aluminates were studied by conventional microwave methods. The measurements reveal that the best films have magnetizations, gyromagnetic ratios, and linewidths which are quite comparable to those of the corresponding bulk ferrites. Films which are not prepared properly show deviations from bulk properties such as reduction of saturation magnetization and greatly increased linewidth. Possible explanations, such as strain and exchange anisotropy, are discussed. (Author).

Book Microwave Properties of High Transition Temperature Superconducting Thin Films

Download or read book Microwave Properties of High Transition Temperature Superconducting Thin Films written by National Aeronautics and Space Adm Nasa and published by Independently Published. This book was released on 2018-12-31 with total page 36 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Extensive studies of the interaction of microwaves with YBa2Cu3O(7-delta), Bi-based, and Tl-based superconducting thin films deposited in several microwave substrates were performed. The data were obtained by measuring the microwave power transmitted through the film in the normal and the superconducting state and by resonant cavity techniques. The main motives were to qualify and understand the physical parameters such as the magnetic penetration depth, the complex conductivity, and the surface impedance, of high temperature superconducting (HTS) materials at microwave frequencies. Based on these parameters, the suitability of these HTS thin films is discussed for microwave applications. Gordon, W. L. NASA-CR-185842, NAS 1.26:185842 NCC3-40...

Book Low Field Microwave Absorption in Magnetic Thin Films

Download or read book Low Field Microwave Absorption in Magnetic Thin Films written by Happyson Michael Gavi and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2012-07 with total page 88 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The magnetic behavior of cubic B20 crystal structure FeSi thin film has been previously probed at macroscopic level using a magnetometer. The results revealed ferromagnetic state with significant hysteresis. This is contrary to the bulk with the same cubic B20 crystal structure that is paramagnetic. The origin of ferromagnetism in thin films in contrast to paramagnetism in the bulk is unclear and unexplained. Electron spin resonance technique (ESR) was used as a tool to characterize the magnetic behavior of FeSi thin films at microscopic level. With ESR technique, B20 crystalline FeSi show microwave power absorption centred at zero field (HDC = 0) termed low-field microwave absorption (LFA) in addition to usual ferromagnetic resonance (FMR) typical of magnetic materials. LFA was observed as a distinct signal in these films. Magnetic thin films are promising candidates in SPINTRONICS and low-field magnetic sensors. This book is a centre of interest to researchers in SPINTRONICS and electronics who are keen to construct advanced memory devices. This work is also ideal to researchers working with magnetic sensors.

Book Microwave Magnetic Thin Film Soliton Device Physics

Download or read book Microwave Magnetic Thin Film Soliton Device Physics written by Carl Patton and published by . This book was released on 1998 with total page 24 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: ARO Grant DAAH04-95-1-0325 (P-33936-PH) has supported a research program to explore and implement concepts which utilize microwave magnetic envelope solitons in thin magnetic film device configurations for signal processing at microwave and millimeter wave frequencies. The work has produced various versions of a soliton oscillator, a soliton switch, and a soliton parametric amplifier. The work has also spawned a number of new device concepts, including an active delay line, several versions of a bistable oscillator, a decay free soliton train generator, and a mode locked spontaneous soliton generator. The switch concept has evolved into a simple phase sensitive on/off switch and a multi-port switch based on the self focusing properties of beam solitons. The original parametric amplifier idea, with the soliton transducer structure inside a microwave cavity, has evolved into a microstrip resonator device with localized parametric pumping and gains in excess of 29 dB. This represents a major breakthrough for magnetic film microwave devices. Work has also proceeded on the study of soliton formation, propagation, reflection, and interaction. A second major breakthrough has been achieved in the direct detection of microwave solitons in magnetic films by Brillouin light scattering.
