Book Microtunneling and Horizontal Drilling

Download or read book Microtunneling and Horizontal Drilling written by French Society for Trenchless Technology (FSTT) and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2010-01-05 with total page 342 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book includes recommendations prepared by members of the French Society for Trenchless Technology (FSTT), based on their recent national multi-year project. Comprehensive guidelines, techniques and theories in the areas of both microtunneling and horizontal drilling are given, encompassing the fields of application for each method, what investigations should be undertaken, which machines and equipment should be used, how the work should be managed and potential problems that may arise. The recommendations, the analytical methods used and their verification with laboratory and field data should not only improve the rate of success of trenchless projects, but will also be of great value to engineers in other countries, who can compare the results with their own findings and assess the international state of the art.

Book Trenchless Installation of Conduits Beneath Roadways

Download or read book Trenchless Installation of Conduits Beneath Roadways written by Tom Iseley and published by Transportation Research Board. This book was released on 1997 with total page 88 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This synthesis will be of interest to geologists; geotechnical, construction, and maintenance engineers; other state department of transportation (DOT) personnel involved with the planning, design, and permit issuance for conduits beneath roadways; local transportation agencies; utility contractors and consultants; and trenchless construction equipment manufacturers. It describes the current state of the practice for the use of trenchless technology for installing conduits beneath roadways. Trenchless construction is a process of installing, rehabilitating, or replacing underground utility systems without open-cut excavation. The synthesis is focused on trenchless technology for new installations. This report of the Transportation Research Board describes the trenchless installation technologies (methods, materials, and equipment) currently employed by state DOTs and other agencies to install conduits beneath roadways. The synthesis presents data obtained from a review of the literature and a survey of transportation agencies. For each technology identified, information is provided to describe the range of applications, basis for technique selection, site specific design factors to be considered, relative costs, common environmental issues, and example specifications. In addition, information on emerging technologies and research needs is presented.

Book Pipeline Crossings

Download or read book Pipeline Crossings written by Task Committee on Pipeline Crossings and published by ASCE Publications. This book was released on 1996-01-01 with total page 148 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Pipeline Crossings (Manuals and Reports on Engineering Practice #89) was prepared by the Task Committee on Pipeline Crossings, Pipeline Crossings Technical Committee, Pipeline Division of the American Society of Civil Engineers. The purpose of this manual is to present common approaches for the design of crossing installations through the use of examples of standard practice as they exist in industry today. While the emphasis is on the pipeline crossing techniques of highways, railroads, and waterways, they can also be applied to cable and conduit crossings. The manual is divided into four major sections. First, general concepts are presented, including crossing environments, permits, and a description of the various types of crossings. The second section discusses the design issues while the different construction methods are explored in detail in the next section. Finally, the fourth section features a glossary of terms and a bibliography of resource materials. For new engineers, this manual may supplement what they were taught in school about pipeline design and construction. For more experienced engineers, it will hopefully provide useful options and guidelines from current practice.

Book Water Services Management

Download or read book Water Services Management written by David Stephenson and published by IWA Publishing. This book was released on 2005-03-01 with total page 430 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Water services include water supply, sewerage and stormwater drainage. The facilities needed for these services are pipelines, reservoirs and treatment works; but the service goes beyond the infrastructure. It includes economics, billing, and business management. Although these services exist in every city, being advanced by the growing use of automation and information technology, costs are also increasing without many consumers seeing increased benefits. Customer service is therefore becoming important to the industry. Water Services Management is intended to educate engineers to manage and improve water services, rather than simply designing and constructing treatment works and distribution systems. The text covers water supply and drainage from the hydraulic and economic points of view, and while design and construction practices are reviewed, the focus of the book is on improving existing systems to turn the emerging industry into an attractive business. Topics covered include: Potable water supply, sewerage and stormwater drainage. Hydraulic management: storage, peak flow attenuation and pumping. Water quality: standards, pollution control and treatment. Infrastructure management: rehabilitation, reconstruction, upgrading and maintenance. Economic efficiency: asset management, privatization, and risk analysis. Improving economic viability via efficient use of energy and construction project management. Characteristics encountered in developing countries are also considered, including: Low cost sanitation, water supply standards and off-grid energy sources. Capacity building and appropriate technologies. Financing, operation and benchmarking.

Book Microtunnelling

Download or read book Microtunnelling written by Dietrich Stein and published by Wiley-VCH. This book was released on 1989-10-25 with total page 386 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Designed as a fundamental source of information on the installation and renewal of non-man-size supply and sewage lines by the trenchless construction method, this book describes non-steerable and steerable microtunnelling systems, their ranges of application and relevant operational experience. The text is supplemented by numerous photographs, outline drawings, tables and charts. In-depth knowledge is given on the subjects of design and operation of different types of soil removal systems, measuring and steering techniques, construction of starting and target pits, as well as obstruction removal. Moreover, the presentations cover the special jacking pipes required for microtunnelling, and provide detailed information regarding the relevant stress and strain analyses. It is shown how the trenchless construction method can be used for marking service house connections, and that there are new ways to link up house service lines with shafts or sewers. A comprehensive bibliography rounds off the text

Book Mechanics and Physics of Solids at Micro and Nano Scales

Download or read book Mechanics and Physics of Solids at Micro and Nano Scales written by Ioan R. Ionescu and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2019-12-30 with total page 260 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Chronicling the 11th US–France Mechanics and physics of solids at macro- and nano-scales symposium, organized by ICACM (International Center for Applied Computational Mechanics) in Paris, June 2018, this book addresses the breadth of issues raised. It covers a comprehensive range of scientific and technological topics (from elementary plastic events in metals and materials in harsh environments to bio-engineered and bio-mimicking materials), offering a representative perspective on state-of-the-art research and materials. Expounding on the issues related to mesoscale modeling, the first part of the book addresses the representation of plastic deformation at both extremes of the scale – between nano- and macro- levels. The second half of the book examines the mechanics and physics of soft materials, polymers and materials made from fibers or molecular networks.
