Book Impact of Different Acid Etching Time on Microtensile Bond Strength to Vital Dentin

Download or read book Impact of Different Acid Etching Time on Microtensile Bond Strength to Vital Dentin written by Aadarsh Gopalakrishna and published by . This book was released on 2009 with total page 140 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Objectives: This study evaluated the effects of extended acid etching on microtensile bond strength ([micro]TBS) of a etch and rinse adhesive system to sound vital dentin. Etching times of 5, 20 and 80 seconds was used to evaluate the [micro]TBS on vital dentin with resin bonded composite [RBC] restoration (Esthet-X TM) which used a two step etch and rinse adhesive system(Prime Bond NT TM) for bonding. Methods: 26 premolars which were going to be extracted for orthodontic treatment were used for this experiment. The teeth were randomly divided into 3 groups based on the etch times and restored with RBC using two step adhesive and extracted in Guarulhos University (Brazil). After extraction, these teeth were sectioned (Microtome) in such a way to obtain 2 testing beams of 2mm diameter from each tooth were obtained which were trimmed (CNC specimen former, University of Iowa, IA, USA) to a dumb bell shape and tested for the microtensile bond strength in University of Iowa. Out of 26 teeth, 46 beams were obtained. For statistical analysis, One-way ANOVA with post-hoc Tukey-Kramer's test was used to determine whether there were significant differences in micro-tensile bond strength among three etching times under each condition. All tests had a 0.05 level of statistical significance. SAS for Windows (v9.1, SAS Institute Inc, Cary, NC, USA) was used for the data analysis. Fracture mode was analyzed using scanning electron microscopy. Results: Bond strengths in 20 seconds and 5 seconds groups were significantly greater than that observed in 80 seconds group, while there was no significant difference between 20 and 5 etching times. SEM showed majority of the failure was adhesive/ joint failure. Significance: The results in this In-vivo study are consistent with other in-vitro studies and thus bring an insight on the importance of duration of phosphoric acid application on dentin and extended etch times could compromise the bond strength of the restorations.

Book excerpt: During the last two decades, adhesive restorative dentistry has increasingly proven its tremendous clinical potential, first in the anterior and more recently in the posterior segments of the mouth. Adhesive techniques have greatly expanded the horizon of aesthetic dentistry. Correction of shapes, positions, dimensions and shades of teeth are now possible with the restorative materials. Repair of fractured teeth can be carried out using the fractured tooth fragments there by maintaining original aesthetics. The continued developments of adhesive materials are now focused on gaining a better understanding of factors affecting adhesion in the oral environment to improve the clinical longevity of restorative materials.

Book Evaluation of the Etch Pattern by Bonding Systems in Primary Teeth

Download or read book Evaluation of the Etch Pattern by Bonding Systems in Primary Teeth written by Sajjad Mithiborwala and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2012-08 with total page 56 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Rampant caries observed at all ages affects those teeth and tooth surfaces which usually are regarded as immune to ordinary decay. Restoration of these lesions with a strong permanent bond between dental tissues and restorative dental materials is a highly desirable property of restorative dentistry. Ultra morphological characterization shows that the interfacial morphological and bonding systems are strongly associated and thus understanding the interfacial phenomenon would be of direct relevance in the use of dental adhesives. Chemical, physiological and micro morphological differences such as decreased mineralization, small size and lower concentration of dentinal tubules, decreased permeability and more reactivity of primary dentin to acidic conditioner were thought to be responsible for lower bond strength and sealing ability in primary dentition. Despite simplification of bonding systems, technique sensitivity and substrate variability; concerns about enamel and dentin bonds have increased. In the light of these developments this study was undertaken to compare the dentin bonding agents.

Book Composite Bond Strength of One and Two Step Adhesive Systems Used for Restorations on Primary Teeth Using Varying Acid Etch Application Times

Download or read book Composite Bond Strength of One and Two Step Adhesive Systems Used for Restorations on Primary Teeth Using Varying Acid Etch Application Times written by Bradley Klus and published by . This book was released on 2014 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The objective of this study was to determine whether the composite bond strength acquired using a single step self-etching bonding system is as or more effective when compared to the two step etch-rinse-bond system at clinically relevant in-vitro standards. A total of 80 extracted human deciduous with at least one intact smooth surface were collected with parental consent. Collected teeth were randomly assigned to one of four treatment protocols (n=20): single step self-etch (Adper Prompt L-Pop, 3M ESPE), two step etch (15s)-rinse-bond (Optibond Solo Plus, Kerr), single step self etch (Adper L Pop, 3M ESPE) with 30s pre-etch, and two step etch (30s)-rinse-bond (Optibond Solo Plus, Kerr). A composite cylinder of uniform shape was bonded to each tooth using the designated adhesive system and specimens were tested with a universal testing machine. Descriptive statistics and statistical analysis was performed. Median shear bond strengths for all specimens, regardless of treatment group, ranged from 3.25 MPa to 43.13 MPa. These values are above suggested minimum clinical required values of 3MPa. A Kruskal-Wallis analysis between treatment groups found statistical significance (p

Book Microtensile Bond Strength After Environmental Challenge of Peak SE with Proteolytic Inhibitor

Download or read book Microtensile Bond Strength After Environmental Challenge of Peak SE with Proteolytic Inhibitor written by Gizele M. R. Geraldeli and published by . This book was released on 2012 with total page 146 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In vivo and in vitro degradation of resin-dentin interfaces can occur and accounts for poor clinical performance of adhesive dentin interfaces/restorations. Interfacial degradation results from several factors, to include, but not limited to: water sorption, hydrolysis of ester linkages of methacrylates resins, and activation of endogenous dentin matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) in non-infiltrated collagen fibrils. Reduction of collagenolytic and gelatinolytic activity in dentin has been shown to be effective both in vivo and in vitro upon application of proteases inhibitors, such as chlorhexidine. This study compared the in vitro durability of resin-dentin bonds using microtensile testing over 12-month of water storage among five adhesive systems, including an experimental adhesive system, which had 2% chlorhexidine incorporated into the material. The results showed that all adhesive systems had a significant decrease in bond strength after 6 months, and that this reduction in bond strength was not significant different among the five adhesive systems studied. It is possible that chlorhexidine might have its inhibitory activity against MMPs lost or reduced due to chemical interaction with the adhesive system components. Also, to assess resin-dentin bonds degradation process, laboratorial studies use long-term water storage, which is labor-intense and time consuming process, therefore this study tested the possibility of accelerating the resin-dentin degradation process using water storage at 50° C.A significant reduction in microtensile bond strength occurred for specimens after 12-month storage at 50° C. The higher temperature may have increased the rate of water sorption and hydrolytic activity within the polymer network leading to adverse consequences to the interface.
