Book Microsurgical Neuro Vascular Anastomoses

Download or read book Microsurgical Neuro Vascular Anastomoses written by H.M. Tschopp and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 60 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The thrust forward into small dimensions with the aid of high magni fication (6-40 power) under the operating microscope marks an important development in almost all fields of surgery. Neurosurgery, ophthalmology and otorhinolaryngology have already integrated the binocular mono scope as an indispensable tool into their armamentarium. General surgery is also making increasing use of it-as is the case with transplantations of autogenous free intestinal grafts. A great "victory march of microsurgery", however, appears to be taking place in plastic and reconstructive surgery. Reimplantation of arms, hands, and especially digits are hardly thinkable today without the possibility of high magnification. New microsurgical anastomosing techniques (interfascicular neurorrhaphy) have also improved the func tional results after nerve injuries. Time-consuming reconstructive proce dures, such as the transfer of a distant flap with its physical and psycho logical burden, are being increasingly replaced by free flaps transplanted by microvascular suture techniques-the most popular free flap being the groin flap in which the superficial circumflex iliac artery and vein is reanastomosed to the recipient vessels. Nevertheless, the writer was sceptical when Dr. TSCHOPP set about with his ambitious plan to transplant a free autogenous rib graft in combination with its adjacent intercostal musculature. The evidence of the results obtained has given the lie to my scepticism. Dr. TSCHOPP has not only succeeded in securing the complete arterial and venous supply to the musculoskeletal graft at the recipient site but has also managed to preserve the functioning entity of nerve and muscle.

Book Experimental and Clinical Reconstructive Microsurgery

Download or read book Experimental and Clinical Reconstructive Microsurgery written by Masamichi Usui and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 560 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since the first successful digit replantation in Japan in 1965, the field of microvascular surgery has rapidly progressed throughout Japan and the world. Experimental and Clinical Reconstructive Microsurgery draws on the experience of a large number of experts in the areas of experimental microsurgery, limb and digit replantation, and composite tissue transplantation. The result is an extensive monograph covering the history and future prospects of microsurgery, essential microsurgical techniques for laboratory research, and the fundamental methods of harvesting tissues and their grafting techniques. Because the field of microsurgery includes a broad range of clinical disciplines, this book is a valuable resource to all orthopedic, traumatic, and plastic surgeons with an interest in microsurgery.

Book Reconstructive Microvascular Surgery

Download or read book Reconstructive Microvascular Surgery written by E. Biemer and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 163 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For many years, the operative manipulation of the most minute struc tures was frustrated by the limitations of the human eye. With the introduction of the operating microscope by Nylen (1921), fine detailed anatomy was made visible, so that structures could be prepared, pre sented and manipulated. Nylen used the microscope for treating dis eases of the middle ear. In 1946 Perrit in the U.S.A. introduced the operating microscope into the field of ophthalmic surgery. In 1964, Smith, Kunze and Mitchen published reports on their clinical experi ence using the operating microscope in nerve surgery. Using this tech nique, it was possible to divide a peripheral nerve into individual fascicle bundles and reapir each bundle precisely. Following on from these developments, the term" microsurgery" was introduced to cover that branch of surgery which was carried out using the" equiped" eye - either by using 10upe spectacle magnifica tion or, more commonly, the operating microscope. The term "micro vascular surgery" developed for the operative treatment of small ves sels below 2 mm in diameter. Experimental studies for the use of microsurgery in the clinical situation developed alongside its use on small research animals for transplantation models in immunological study. Microsurgical techniques were used in the transplantation of rat liver, kidneys, pancreas, heart and other organs. The clinical appli cation of these microsurgical techniques is nowadays called "recon structive microvascular surgery."

Book Aesthetic Facial Restoration

Download or read book Aesthetic Facial Restoration written by Elliott H. Rose and published by Little, Brown Medical Division. This book was released on 1998 with total page 394 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume is a complete "how-to" guide to an innovative facial restoration strategy that combines microsurgical reconstruction and cosmetic surgery to restore both function and aesthetic appearance to disfigured faces. Illustrated with over 400 lifelike color drawings and patient photographs, the book demonstrates the techniques of aesthetic facial restoration and shows how to repair defects in every part of the face. Dr. Rose gives detailed instructions on the design and use of prepatterned microvascular flaps to replace components of the face. Meticulous drawings with clear plastic overlays depict the anatomy of free flap transfers to complex facial defects. Close attention is given to the use of three-dimensional imaging and computer-generated models in surgical planning. Dr. Rose also describes ancillary procedures to restore the contours and texture of the face. Chapters by a professional makeup artist and a medical tattoo specialist explain how cosmetic camouflage techniques are used on the reconstructed face.
