Download or read book Microstructure of the Neutron Irradiated VVER type Reactor Pressure Vessel Steels written by I. Procházka and published by . This book was released on 2000 with total page 12 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Conventional transmission electron microscopy has been used to investigate the radiation-induced changes in the microstructure of VVER-type RPV steels. Specimens irradiated at ? 270 °C temperature in both the power light-water reactor (surveillance specimens) and the research reactor have been studied. In addition, the microstructure of the thermally aged specimens was analyzed too. Microstructural analysis has been supplemented by some preliminary results of the Doppler broadening and lifetime positron annihilation measurements.

Book Investigation of Neutron Irradiated Soviet type Reactor Pressure Vessel Steels by Small Angle Neutron Scattering

Download or read book Investigation of Neutron Irradiated Soviet type Reactor Pressure Vessel Steels by Small Angle Neutron Scattering written by G. Brauer and published by . This book was released on 1994 with total page 13 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Reactor pressure vessel steels of the Soviet-type 15Kh2MFA (Cr-Mo-V steels) are used in the VVER-440 type reactors, whereas steels of the Soviet type 15Kh2NMFA (Ni-Cr-Mo-V steels) are used in the WER-1000 type reactors. Eleven different materials, i.e. seven base metals and two weld metals of the type 15Kh2MFA, as well as one base metal and one weld metal of the type 15Kh2NMFA were available for the investigations. The small angle neutron scattering technique using the SANS-2 facility at the FRG-1 reactor in Geesthacht was employed to study the radiation-induced defect microstructure in the as-irradiated materials. The results are discussed in terms of the influence of different impurity contents and irradiation conditions on the defect microstructure.

Book Microstructural and Mechanical Characterization of Radiation Effects in Model Reactor Pressure Vessel Steels

Download or read book Microstructural and Mechanical Characterization of Radiation Effects in Model Reactor Pressure Vessel Steels written by H-W Viehrig and published by . This book was released on 2005 with total page 14 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This paper presents results of radiation-induced nanoscale microstructural changes measured by Small-Angle Neutron Scattering (SANS) on ASTM-type reactor pressure vessel (RPV) steels. Five different base metals and one weld metal were investigated. The irradiation was performed in a VVER-type power reactor to three different dose levels, maximally 0.14 dpa, at an irradiation temperature of 255°C. The volume content of the micostructural features measured is correlated with the irradiation hardening and embrittlement.

Book Irradiation Damage Structure in VVER 440 Steels After Irradiation at Different Temperatures and Post Irradiation Annealing

Download or read book Irradiation Damage Structure in VVER 440 Steels After Irradiation at Different Temperatures and Post Irradiation Annealing written by M. Grosse and published by . This book was released on 2000 with total page 20 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Neutron irradiation of the VVER-440-type reactor pressure vessel steel 15Kh2MFA at lower temperature causes an increase of the content of point defects in the iron lattice. The ratio between the magnetic and nuclear scattering of these point defects shows that not only vacancies are formed but also the number of foreign atoms in solution is increased. Additionally, small precipitates grow. These precipitates are smaller and have a weaker thermal stability than the precipitates grown in this steel after neutron irradiation at service temperature. In some cases the number of precipitates which can be found in the unirradiated state decreases significantly by irradiation at 60°C. Annealing at 475°C/1h provokes coarsening of the precipitates and re-dissolution of the precipitates formed by irradiation at lower temperature.

Book Radiation Damage of Structural Materials

Download or read book Radiation Damage of Structural Materials written by J. Koutský and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 362 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Maintaining the integrity of nuclear power plants is critical in the prevention or control of severe accidents. This monograph deals with both basic groups of structural materials used in the design of light-water nuclear reactors, making the primary safety barriers of NPPs. Emphasis is placed on materials used in VVER-type nuclear reactors: Cr-Mo-V and Cr-Ni-Mo-V steel for RPV and Zr-Nb alloys for fuel element cladding. The book is divided into 7 main chapters, with the exception of the opening one and the chapter providing a phenomenological background for the subject of radiation damage. Chapters 3-6 are devoted to RPV steels and chapters 7-9 to zirconium alloys, analysing their radiation damage structure, changes of mechanical properties due to neutron irradiation as well as factors influencing the degree of their performance degradation. The recovery of damaged materials is also discussed. Considerable attention is paid to a comparison of VVER-type and western-type light-water materials. This monograph will be of great value to postgraduate students in nuclear engineering and materials science, and for designers and research workers in nuclear energy.

Book Investigation of the Development of Irradiation Induced Precipitates in VVER 440 Type Reactor Pressure Vessel Steels and Weld Metals After Irradiation and Annealing

Download or read book Investigation of the Development of Irradiation Induced Precipitates in VVER 440 Type Reactor Pressure Vessel Steels and Weld Metals After Irradiation and Annealing written by J. Böhmert and published by . This book was released on 1999 with total page 17 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The development of irradiation-induced precipitates in VVER-440 type reactor pressure vessel steels 15Kh2MFA and weld metals SV-10KhMFT during irradiation and post-irradiation annealing is studied by small angle neutron and X-ray scattering. The kinetic conditions for the precipitation of particles, which already exist in the unirradiated state, seem to be improved at temperatures of about 270°C due to the irradiation. The size distribution of the irradiation-induced precipitates depends on the copper content and differs between weld and base metal. A strong correlation between the formation of irradiation-induced precipitates and the irradiation hardening is found. The hardness nearly linearly depends on the number of these precipitates.

Book Radiation Damage of Nuclear Power Plant Pressure Vessel Steels

Download or read book Radiation Damage of Nuclear Power Plant Pressure Vessel Steels written by Nikolaĭ Nikolaevich Alekseenko and published by . This book was released on 1997 with total page 304 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book describes the current state of knowledge about pressure vessel material selection, fabrication (including welding), the changes in properties in service, and response to high-temperature annealing. In contrast to the bad reports of inadequate attention to reactor safety in the former Soviet Union, this book shows that the question of pressure vessel performance has received proper attention and a strong scientific base underlies the assessment of vessel life. This book should be read by reactor designers and operators and their scientific colleagues throughout the world.
