Download or read book Microstructure of Amorphous silicon based Solar Cell Materials by Small angle X ray Scattering Annual Technical Report April 6 1995 April 5 1996 written by and published by . This book was released on 1996 with total page 30 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The objective of this project is to provide detailed microstructural information on the amorphous silicon based thin film materials under development for improved multijunction solar cells. Correlation of microstructure with opto-electrical properties and device performance is an integral part of the research. During this second phase of our three-year program we have obtained information on the microstructure of materials relevant to the Low-, Mid-, and High-bandgap Teams and the results are appropriately divided into these three types of material as presented below. The experimental methods, data analysis, and interpretation procedures are the same as those described in detail in the phase-one report and in the review paper published last year.

Book excerpt: The general objective of this research is to provide detailed microstructural information on the amorphous-silicon-based, thin-film materials under development for improved multijunction solar cells. Correlation of this microstructure with opto-electronic properties and device performance is an integral part of the research. The experimental technique used is small-angle x-ray scattering, and it provides quantitative microstructural data on microvoid fractions, sizes, shapes, and their preferred orientations. Other microstructural features such as alloy segregation, hydrogen-rich clusters, and alloy short-range order are probed. Three types of material are under investigation and fall into the bandgap classification scheme forming the basis of three of the four NREL Amorphous Silicon Teams.

Book Amorphous and Nanocrystalline Silicon Based Films 2003 Volume 762

Download or read book Amorphous and Nanocrystalline Silicon Based Films 2003 Volume 762 written by Materials Research Society. Meeting and published by . This book was released on 2003-11-12 with total page 824 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Amorphous silicon technology has been the subject of symposia every year since 1984. This remarkable longevity is due to the continuous emergence of new scientific questions and new technological challenges for silicon thin films. Earlier there was a strong emphasis on methods to achieve high deposition rates using plasma or hot-wire chemical vapor deposition, and on the properties and applications of nanocrystalline silicon films, which for example have been incorporated into stacked a-Si:H/nc-Si:H solar cells. The papers appearing in this book are sorted under six chapter headings on the basis of subject matter. Chapter I is concerned with amorphous network structures, electronic metastability, defects, and photoluminescence. Chapter II focuses on thin-film transistors and imager arrays. Chapter III covers solar cells. Chapter IV addresses growth mechanisms, hot-filament CVD, and nc-Si:H growth. Chapter V contains all remaining topics in film growth, especially those related to devices. Finally, Chapter VI focuses on crystallized film.

Book Amorphous and Heterogeneous Silicon Based Films 2001 Volume 664

Download or read book Amorphous and Heterogeneous Silicon Based Films 2001 Volume 664 written by Martin Stutzmann and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2001-10-15 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book looks at the exchange of information on the physics and application of amorphous and microcrystalline silicon and presents exciting new developments. Significant progress has been made in the high- or even ultra-high-rate deposition of device-quality amorphous and microcrystalline silicon, in in-situ growth characterization techniques and in state-of-the-art computer modeling of deposition processes. These issues are especially important for the successful future commercialization of silicon thin-film devices. The latest results concerning silicon thin-film solar cells are highlighted. Active matrix arrays for displays or sensors continue to be the second major application of thin silicon films, and again much progress has been made in that area. Topics include: nucleation and growth; novel concepts; hot-wire CVD; high-rate deposition; growth of silicon and silicon-alloy thin films; crystallization; silicon-based alloys; structural properties of heterogeneous silicon films; dopants and impurities; amorphous and silicon solar cells; metastability; hydrogen and metastability; transport in µc-Si; thin-film transistors; hydrogenation and oxidation; defects and defect spectroscopy; structural and electronic properties of thin silicon films; heterojunctions; TFTs and sensors; amorphous-to-microcrystalline transition and structural relaxation and diffusion.

Book Amorphous Silicon Technology 1996 Volume 420

Download or read book Amorphous Silicon Technology 1996 Volume 420 written by Michael Hack and published by . This book was released on 1996-12-31 with total page 946 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book from the highly successful series on amorphous-silicon science and devices reflects the increasing range of applications for a-Si technology. Advances in solar cells incorporating microcrystalline silicon absorber layers are discussed, and a new manufacturing facility for amorphous-silicon-based tandem solar cells is highlighted. Progress towards realizing both higher resolution and improved visibility in active-matrix liquid crystal displays is featured. And while work on raising the deposition rate for amorphous-silicon transistors is also outlined, it is expected that advances in devices and manufacturing will be accelerated when several fundamental puzzles regarding amorphous silicon's structure and optoelectronic properties are resolved. Topics include: solar cells; thin-film transistors and flat-panel displays; sensors, detectors and novel devices; device physics; deposition technologies; studies of growth processes; hydrogen and structure a-Si:H; defects and equilibration in a-Si:H; fundamental issues in defect processes; transport and recombination processes; thin films for photovoltaic and related device applications.

Book Amorphous and Microcrystalline Silicon Technology 1997 Volume 467

Download or read book Amorphous and Microcrystalline Silicon Technology 1997 Volume 467 written by Michael Hack and published by Materials Research Society. This book was released on 1997-12-03 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: While the original focus of this long-standing series from the Materials Research Society was on hydrogenated amorphous silicon, the symposia have now expanded to incorporate microcrystalline silicon. The two, in fact, are very closely connected since the latter material can be grown by making comparatively small changes to the deposition conditions for amorphous silicon. This book offers an interesting variety of papers on deposition techniques, materials properties, characterization methods and devices - nearly all focused on thin-film forms of hydrogenated silicon. Topics include: Staebler-Wronski and fundamental defect studies in amorphous silicon; the story of hydrogen in amorphous silicon; photoelectric properties of amorphous silicon; deposition and properties of microcrystalline silicon; deposition studies for amorphous silicon and related materials; solar cells; thin-film transistors and sensors and novel device concepts.

Book Amorphous and Microcrystalline Silicon Technology 1998 Volume 507

Download or read book Amorphous and Microcrystalline Silicon Technology 1998 Volume 507 written by Ruud Schropp and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 1999-02-23 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Although this is the 16th volume in a long-standing and successful series, the focus is no longer limited to hydrogenated amorphous silicon (a-Si:H). The distinction between short- and medium-range order, and between homogeneous and heterogeneous semiconductor materials, is indeed too difficult to maintain. Instead, the volume covers amorphous and microcrystalline silicon from materials physics to new applications. Papers from a joint session with a symposium on Flat-Panel Display Materials and Large-Area Processes are included. The volume also features special focused sessions on heterogeneous materials, color sensors and radiation imaging, and parameter extraction and device modelling. Topics include: amorphous and polycrystalline thin-film transistors; solar cells; color and X-ray sensors, novel devices, luminescence and sensitization; device modelling and parameter extraction; growth, alloys and clathrates; metastability, hydrogen, atomic and electronic structure; defects and charge transport; and heterogeneous silicon - formation, properties and devices.
