Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Over the last dozen years there has been a great development in the study of matter on the micro-scale by means of the light microscope, which has coincided with the rapid growth of auto mation and the use of computers. The manufacturers have responded to this challenge, and there is now available a large choice of modules for use with the microscope, both on the biological and non-biological side. This book is on microscope photometry. Photometry on the macro-scale can be applied to features of not less than about one millimetre in size. Below this lies the realm of microscope photometry which will be discussed both in theory and in practice. As a general rule no discussion of technical design of equipment is included, as such information is available in the handbooks of the particular manufacturers of equipment. It attempts to cover all the uses of the optical microscope photometer with its auxiliary equipment, and the first chapter describes the topics covered. In using the word' light' we apply its meaning to extend from UV to near IR. No attempt has been made to list all the works consulted. For each subject treated in this book a list is given of books and papers considered to be of key importance; in these will be found more detailed bibliographies.

Book Computer Operation for Microscope Photometry

Download or read book Computer Operation for Microscope Photometry written by H. J. Swatland and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 1997-11-25 with total page 260 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Suitable for both microscopists seeking computer skills and PC enthusiasts interested in light microscopy, this interdisciplinary text explores the capabilities of the computer-assisted light microscope. Written in clear, simple language, the book explains how computer technology expands the usefulness of the light microscope in spectrophotometry, fluorometry, polarimetry, spatial scanning, and related fields. Beginning with the basic features of light microscopy and personal computer interfacing, the text explains how to make photometric measurements and covers spectrophotometry, stepper motors, and server motors. Polarized light and video image analysis complete this introduction to the field. While software examples are provided to illustrate specific techniques, most operations are described as generalized algorithms that can be adapted to any appropriate high-level language, and used with almost any configuration of the microscope. The book suggests new experiments to inspire further study. Promising new areas of interest, such as the use of fluorescence and polarization, are also included. Computers have radically changed the field of light microscopy in recent decades. Computer Operations for Microscope Photometry helps you master the new techniques.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book constitutes the Proceedings of the 26th Symposium on Acoustical Imaging held inWindsor, Ontario, Canada during September 9-12, 2001. This traditional scientific event is recognized as a premier forum for the presentation of advanced research results in both theoretical and experimental development. The lAIS was conceived at a 1967Acoustical Holography meeting in the USA. Since then, these traditional symposia provide an opportunity for specialists who are working in this area to make new acquaintances, renew old friendships and present recent results of their research. Our Symposium has grown significantly in size due to a broad interest in various topics and to the quality of the presentations. For the firsttime in 40 years, the IAIS was held in the province of Ontario in Windsor, Canada's Automotive Capital and City of Roses. The 26th IAIS attracted over 100specialists from 13countries representing this interdisciplinary field in physical acoustics, image processing, applied mathematics, solid-state physics, biology and medicine, industrial applications and quality control technologies. The 26th lAIS was organized in the traditional way with only one addition-a Special Session "History of Acoustical Imaging" with the involvement of such well known scientists as Andrew Briggs, Noriyoshi Chubachi, Robert Green Jr., Joie Jones, Kenneth Erikson, and Bernhard Tittmann. Many of these speakers are well known scientists in their fields and we would like to thank them for making this session extremely successful.

Book Quantitative Fluorescence Microscopy

Download or read book Quantitative Fluorescence Microscopy written by F. W. D. Rost and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 1991-07-26 with total page 264 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Quantitative fluorescence microscopy is concerned with making measurements from fluorescent specimens in a fluorescence microscope, by measuring fluorescence emission from a defined area or areas of a specimen. This technique is most commonly used to determine the amount of some specific substance, such as DNA, in some particular area of a cell. But it has many other uses; for example, it can be used to identify certain substances in the cell by examining their fluorescence characteristics. This book is a complete guide to this technique for all biologists. It describes the principles and applications of quantitative fluorescence microscopy and also gives much practical information about the instrumentation required. There is also a discussion of the exciting developments in confocal fluorescence microscopy which allows the three dimensional distribution of particular substances to be determined. Everyone presently using this technique, or wishing to start using it will need to read this book.
