Download or read book Oecophorine Genera of Australia III written by Ian FB Common and published by CSIRO PUBLISHING. This book was released on 2000-06-19 with total page 482 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume completes the revision of the oecophorine genera of Australia, a subfamily which has diversified enormously in this country and represents some 20% of the Australian lepidoptera. The generic revision of the Australian Oecophorinae, continued in this third volume, includes the large Barea group of genera, the small Tisobarica group, some genera previously omitted in the first two volumes from the Wingia and Chezala groups, and some miscellaneous genera of unknown relationship. This volume deals with 96 genera, 73 of which are referred to the Barea group, two to the Tisobarica group, four to the Wingia and Chezala groups, and 17 to the group of unplaced genera. As in the first two volumes, nearly all of the genera are endemic. An account of the morphology of each genus is provided, including the genitalia of both sexes, illustrated by 772 photographs of mounted and live adults and genitalia of type species or representative species, SEMs of the heads of most of the type species, as well as line drawings of the wing venation. The species referred to each genus are given, with full synonymy, original references, label data and repositories of the primary types; where necessary, lectotypes are designated. Available up-to-date information on the distribution, biology and host relationships of the larvae is provided, as well as a key to the genera of the Barea group.
Download or read book The Families of Malesian Moths and Butterflies written by Jeremy Holloway and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2021-10-01 with total page 469 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Families of Malesian Moths and Butterflies provides a compendium of detailed information on the rich diversity of moths and butterflies of Malesia. It includes not only a key to the families (and some subfamilies) and field hints for the identification of larval stages, but also deals with their biology, biogeography, phylogeny and classification, and provides guidance for their collection and study. Familie that are reported or suspected to occur in Malesia are described in some depth, with a reference section intended to include as comprehensive a list as possible of the key works to the fauna.
Download or read book Obligate Pollination Mutualism written by Makoto Kato and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-05-09 with total page 310 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents a comprehensive overview of our current understanding of mutualism origin, plant–pollinator specificity, mutualism stability, and reciprocal diversification. In particular, it focuses on the natural history and evolutionary history of the third example of obligate pollination mutualism, leafflower–leafflower moth association, which was discovered in the plant family Phyllanthaceae by the lead editor and then established by the editors and their coworkers as an ideal model system for studies of mutualism and the coevolutionary process. This work brings together the knowledge they have gained through an array of research conducted using different approaches, ranging from taxonomy, phylogenetics, ecology, and evolutionary biology to biogeography. Richly illustrated with numerous original color photographs, the volume consists of 13 chapters and is divided into three main parts: natural history, ecology, and evolution. It begins by showcasing numerous examples of plant–animal interactions and their origins to guide readers in the world of leafflowers and their pollinators. The immense diversity of Phyllanthaceae and pollinator moths is then explored, and in the following 7 chapters mutualism is discussed from a range of ecological and evolutionary points of view. The final chapter presents a review of the evolution and variety of obligate pollination mutualisms. This book offers researchers and students in the field of ecology, botany, evolutionary biology, pollination biology, entomology, and tropical biology fascinating insights into why such a costly pollination system has evolved and why Phyllanthaceae is so diverse despite the inconspicuousness of their flowers.

Download or read book Microlepidoptera of the Philippine Islands written by Alexey Diakonoff and published by . This book was released on 1967 with total page 496 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Knowledge of the fauna of Philippine Microlepidoptera contrasts with that of the "Macro's." The author estimated that the species enumerated in the present survey amount to not more, and probably less, than 20 percent of the existing fauna of these insects and advised caution in speculating on the zoogeography of this group. Individual descriptions often contain bibliographic citations.
