Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is dedicated to Prof. Dr. Heinz Gerhäuser on the occasion of his retirement both from the position of Executive Director of the Fraunhofer Institute for Integrated Circuits IIS and from the Endowed Chair of Information Technologies with a Focus on Communication Electronics (LIKE) at the Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg. Heinz Gerhäuser's vision and entrepreneurial spirit have made the Fraunhofer IIS one of the most successful and renowned German research institutions. He has been Director of the Fraunhofer IIS since 1993, and under his leadership it has grown to become the largest of Germany's 60 Fraunhofer Institutes, a position it retains to this day, currently employing over 730 staff. Likely his most important scientific as well as application-related contribution was his pivotal role in the development of the mp3 format, which would later become a worldwide success. The contributions to this Festschrift were written by both Fraunhofer IIS staff and external project team members in appreciation of Prof. Dr. Gerhäuser's lifetime academic achievements and his inspiring leadership at the Fraunhofer IIS. The papers reflect the broad spectrum of the institute's research activities and are grouped into sections on circuits, information systems, visual computing, and audio and multimedia. They provide academic and industrial researchers in fields like signal processing, sensor networks, microelectronics, and integrated circuits with an up-to-date overview of research results that have a huge potential for cutting-edge industrial applications.

Book The Engineering of Microprocessor Systems

Download or read book The Engineering of Microprocessor Systems written by Yong Zhou and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2016-06-23 with total page 188 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Engineering of Microprocessor Systems: Guidelines on System Development provides economical and technical guidance for use when incorporating microprocessors in products or production processes and assesses the alternatives that are available. This volume is part of Project 0251 undertaken by The Electrical Research Association, which aims to give managers and development engineers advice and comment on the development process and the hardware and software needed to support the engineering of microprocessor systems. The results of Phase 1 of the five-phase project are contained in this first volume. It presents an overview of the technology of microprocessors themselves, of the development process, and of the range of development aids which will be covered in greater depth in later volumes. Also included are specific recommendations, facts, or guidelines on the choices to be made or procedures to be adopted. This volume is aimed primarily at the manager or other users responsible for microprocessor system developments, but who may lack direct experience in this field. It is intended to provide a decision framework and background material for management considering such developments for the first time, so that the special problems and key aspects of a microprocessor based development can be identified from the start.

Book Microprocessor System Design

Download or read book Microprocessor System Design written by Michael J. Spinks and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 256 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Microprocessor System Design: A Practical Introduction describes the concepts and techniques incorporated into the design of electronic circuits, particularly microprocessor boards and their peripherals. The book reviews the basic building blocks of the electronic systems composed of digital (logic levels, gate output circuitry) and analog components (resistors, capacitors, diodes, transistors). The text also describes operational amplifiers (op-amp) that use a negative feedback technique to improve the parameters of the op-amp. The design engineer can use programmable array logic (PAL) to replace standard discrete TTL and CMOS gates in circuits. The PAL is programmable and configurable to match the requirement of a given circuit. Using PAL can save space, a very important factor in the miniaturization process. Examples of PAL applications include the BCD counter, the LS 138 emulator, and a priority interrupt encoder. The book also explains the operation and function of a microprocessor, the bus-based systems, analog-to-digital conversion, and vice-versa. The text is suitable for programmers, computer engineers, computer technicians, and computer instructors dealing with many aspects of computers such as programming, networking, engineering or design.

Book Microelectronic Systems 1 Checkbook

Download or read book Microelectronic Systems 1 Checkbook written by R E Vears and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 88 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Microelectronic Systems 1 Checkbook provides coverage of the Business and Technician Education Council level 1 unit in Microelectronic Systems. However, it can be regarded as a basic textbook in microelectronic systems for a much wider range of studies. Each topic considered in the text is presented in a way that assumes the reader has little prior knowledge of electronics. The aim of the book is to provide an introduction to the concept of systems, to differentiate analogue and digital systems, and to describe the nature of microprocessor-controlled systems. An introduction to programming is provided in Chapter 6 in which simple programs are described. To enable practical experience to be gained, listings are provided for these programs to run on four different microprocessor systems. The four microprocessors chosen are the MOS 6502, Motorola 6800, National Semiconductors INS 8060, and RCA 1802. This book is designed for students seeking technician or equivalent qualification through the courses of the Business and Technician Education Council (BTEC), Scottish Technical Education Council, Australian Technical and Further Education Departments, East and West African Examinations Council, and other comparable examining authorities in technical subjects.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fuzzy logic has virtually exploded over the landscape of emerging technologies, becoming an integral part of myriad applications and a standard tool for engineers. Until recently, most of the attention and applications have centered on fuzzy systems implemented in software. But these systems are limited. Problems that require real-time operation, low area, or low power consumption demand hardware designed to the fuzzy paradigm - and engineers with the background and skills to design it. Microelectronic Design of Fuzzy Logic-Based Systems offers low-cost answers to issues that software cannot resolve. From the theoretical, architectural, and technological foundation to design tools and applications, it serves as your guide to effective hardware realizations of fuzzy logic. Review fuzzy logic theory and the basic issues of fuzzy sets, operators, and inference mechanisms Explore the trade-offs between efficient theoretical behavior and practical hardware realizations Discover the properties of the possible microelectronic realizations of fuzzy systems - conventional processors, fuzzy coprocessors, and fuzzy chips Investigate the design of fuzzy chips that implement the whole fuzzy inference method into silicon Analyze analog, digital, and mixed-signal techniques Reduce your design effort for fuzzy systems with CAD tools - learn the requirements they should meet and survey current environments. Put it all together - see examples and case studies illustrating how all of this is used to solve particular problems related to control and neuro-fuzzy applications

Programming is given attention through a thorough explanation of software development tools and the use of macros. Choosing devices from the Z80 family of processors, the author explains hardware development including topics on basic circuits for each stage of development in resonance with the applicable data sheets. When software and hardware are to be integrated and function efficiently, a technique called emulation may prove useful; hence it is also described. The book ends with troubleshooting or fault location, especially for computer systems that are still under development and riddled with bugs. Troubleshooting or fault location, which is considered an acquired skill, is improved with discussions on basic techniques, principles of operation, and the equipment needed for a successful diagnosis and solution of the problem. Software engineers, computer technicians, computer engineers, teachers, and instructors in the field of computing learning will find this book very instructive. The book can also be read by computer enthusiasts who desire to have an advanced technical know-how and understanding of computer hardware and systems.
