Book Microcomputers in Education

Download or read book Microcomputers in Education written by Morley Sage and published by . This book was released on 1983 with total page 74 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Prepared to advise the Social Science Research Council, this report suggests funding priorities for a program of research in the field of educational applications of information technology, with special reference to the primary and secondary sectors. A discussion of the research program initiative context includes the contributions of governmental and government-supported agencies, research and development efforts in North America, and economic considerations. An examination of the need for research on new technology emphasizes its importance for providing an information base for curriculum design and a research base for the "education industry." Attention is drawn to the current lack of focus and direction in United Kingdom research and the increased risk of dissipation of effort created by a shortage of funds. Two research emphases are proposed: learning processes and information technology, and curriculum and the information society. Potential research problems are considered, and detailed outlines are provided for recommended programs of commissioned research. Fifty-eight references are listed. (Author/LMM)

Book Microcomputers in Schools

Download or read book Microcomputers in Schools written by Commonwealth Secretariat, London (England). and published by . This book was released on 1991 with total page 26 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report is about information technology in the classroom and is designed to provide information to anyone who might be involved in the planning and implementation of a national program for the introduction of computers into schools. The first of two sections of the report examines the background against which policy decisions can be made, outlining the kinds of educational activities that can be supported by computers and some of the reasons normally given for introducing information technology into education. The second section considers the kind of support structures that will facilitate the implementation of a national computer education project and examines the main cost items involved in such an implementation. It is noted that the experience of educators at a pan-Commonwealth meeting held in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada in May 1986 was particularly helpful in writing this report, and it is their point of view that supports the formation of policy on the use of microcomputers in education in developing Commonwealth countries. This paper reflects experience brought to the meeting from Barbados, Great Britain, Canada, Cyprus, India, Kenya, Singapore, Sri Lanka, and Trinidad and Tobago. (DB)

Book Computers Children and Classrooms

Download or read book Computers Children and Classrooms written by Hilda W. Carmichael and published by . This book was released on 1985 with total page 898 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study examined the creative uses of computers in elementary schools and their impact on student's confidence and self-esteem, student-student interaction, student-teacher interaction, male and female students, classroom management, the role of the teacher, special education, teacher training, teachers not involved in the study, and curricular areas such as computer literacy, learning Logo as a programming language, problem-solving and problem-creation, mathematics, oral communication, reading and writing, the arts, and values and the individual and society. Findings are based on intensive examinations of real classrooms over a 2-year period. A total of 433 students in 18 classrooms that involved 13 different teachers were studied; of these, 5 teachers and 40 students were involved in the study for 2 years. Classrooms had 1 to 5 computers over the entire school year, or students had access to a computer laboratory. Logo and word processing were studied extensively; the use of a graphics tablet and Musicland were explored for short periods. Findings indicate that the creative use of computers fosters the development of independent and original thinking and that an environment that encourages exploration leads to extensive social interaction among students; in addition, students become more willing to express, refine, or revise their ideas. A significantly greater proportion of students experienced an increase in their confidence and self-esteem if their teacher was able to give them autonomy over their learning. The impact on students' attention span and cognitive development in the special education classes was also significant. Appendices and selected references are provided. (Author/JB)

Book Children and Computers in School

Download or read book Children and Computers in School written by Betty A. Collis and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-11-26 with total page 179 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume integrates research findings from three multinational studies conducted to examine the impact of children's use of computers in school. Conclusions are drawn from in-depth analyses of trends in more than 20 nations. Its seven authors from four nations were key researchers on these projects. Both a study and a product of the information age, this work is of prime importance to teachers, teacher educators, and school administrators. This work is unique in three important ways: * it presents data gathered in many regions of the world; * many of the authors are well-known and respected for their previous work in educational studies; and * the chapters are designed in such a way that the majority of the book is easily accessible to professionals such as classroom teachers who are interested primarily in findings, results, and outcomes rather than the methodology of the research.

Book Computers in Third World Schools

Download or read book Computers in Third World Schools written by David Hawkridge and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-07-27 with total page 365 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The reasons why governments of developing countries should put computer technology in their schools are highly controversial, but no less than the actual use being made of these comparatively expensive machines and their software. This book looks at experience in African, Asian and Arabic-speaking countries that already have computers in some of their schools. It is based mainly on research in China, Jordan, Kenya, Mauritius, Sri Lanka and Tunisia. The authors debate policy and practice in the light of experience to date. They identify the rationales commonly deployed by Ministries of Education and international agencies, but argue themselves for a long-term view of the potential of computers to liberalise education, and through such education to reduce dependency and inequity.
