Book Antimicrobial resistance monitoring and surveillance guidelines for food producing animals and their products in Eastern Africa

Download or read book Antimicrobial resistance monitoring and surveillance guidelines for food producing animals and their products in Eastern Africa written by Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations and published by Food & Agriculture Org. [Author] [Author]. This book was released on 2024-05-22 with total page 100 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This publication is a building block of the Eastern Africa antimicrobial resistance (AMR) surveillance roadmap that was described in April 2019, by AMR experts from Djibouti, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, South Sudan, Sudan and Uganda. [Author] The roadmap is presented in chapter six of this document. [Author] The national AMR experts came together in a regional meeting organized by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and also attended by other national, regional and international organizations such as the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH), International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI), Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)-Kenya, University of Nairobi (UON), Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI), World Animal Protection (WAP) and African Union-Interagency Bureau for Animal Resources (AU-IBAR). [Author] The aim of the roadmap is to set out the processes, tools and coordination that technical experts and decision-makers from within national governments in East Africa agreed should be undertaken at regional level to support development and implementation of national AMR surveillance strategies and plans. Book Food Safety and Foodborne Pathogen A Global Perspective on the Diversity Combating Multidrug Resistance and Management

Download or read book Food Safety and Foodborne Pathogen A Global Perspective on the Diversity Combating Multidrug Resistance and Management written by Learn-Han Lee and published by Frontiers Media SA. This book was released on 2020-12-11 with total page 441 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A question raised by many individuals today – “How Safe is Our Food Consumed Today?” Food safety has become a hot topic and an important public issue due to the increasingly widespread nature of foodborne illnesses in both developed and developing countries. As food is biological in nature and supplies consumers with nutrients, it is also equally capable of supporting the growth of microorganisms from the environmental sources. A precise method of monitoring and detecting of foodborne pathogens including Salmonella sp., Vibrio sp., Listeria monocytogenes, Campylobacter and Norovirus is needed to prevent and control human foodborne infections. Clinical treatments of infection caused by foodborne pathogens are becoming tougher with the increase number of multidrug resistant pathogens in the environment. This situation creates a huge healthcare burden – e.g. prolonged treatment for infections, decrease in the efficacy of antibiotic, delay in treatment due to unavailability of new antibiotics, and increased number of deaths. As such, continuous investigation of the foodborne pathogens is needed to pave the way for a deeper understanding on the foodborne diseases and to improve disease prevention, management and treatments.

Book Good practices for the feed sector

Download or read book Good practices for the feed sector written by Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations and published by Food & Agriculture Org.. This book was released on 2020-11-23 with total page 140 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This manual provides comprehensive information and practical guidelines to assist farmers, producers and all stakeholders along the feed value chain to comply with the requirements of the Codex Alimentarius Code of Practice on Good Animal Feeding. The application of the Code is an important step for the expansion of international trade of feed and products of animal origin. Both feed/food exporting and importing countries can benefit from a greater and safer trade of feed and products of animal origins. This manual is intended to guide managers of feedmills, the feed industry as a whole and on-farm feed mixers and producers. It will also be of value to national competent authorities, in particular those engaged in feed inspection, in their supervisory roles. It can also serve as a training manual and a guide to setting up national feed associations.
