Book Micro hydro Design Manual

Download or read book Micro hydro Design Manual written by Adam Harvey and published by Intermediate Technology. This book was released on 1993-01 with total page 374 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Micro-Hydro Design Manual has grown from Intermediate Technology's field experiences with micro-hydro installations and covers operation and maintenance, commissioning, electrical power, induction generators, electronic controllers, management, and energy surveys. There is an increasing need in many countries for power supplies to rural areas, partly to support industries, and partly to provide illumination at night. Government authorities are faced with the very high costs of extending electricity grids. Often micro-hydro provides an economic alternative to the grid. This is because independentmicro-hydro schemes save on the cost of grid transmission lines, and because grid extension schemes often have very expensive equipment and staff costs. In contrast, micro-hydro schemes can be designed and built by local staff andsmaller organizations following less strict regulations and using 'off-the-shelf' components or locally made machinery.

Micro Hydro Power System Build Your Own Individual Power Station Welcome to Microhydropower System: Individual Power Generation, a self-help book designed to show you how Microhydropower Systems work and how you can implement one by yourself. As we seek new ways to ensure we have renewable sources at our fingertips, hydropower has made a recent comeback with how reliable it can be. In the first chapter, we will go over some basic information, such as: Why you might want to have a Microhydropower system for your off-grid or on-grid homes The principles behind Microhydropower systems and why their simplicity is amazing The components that make up a Microhydropower system In the second and third chapters, we will be going over determining if it is worth it and how to set up your Microhydropower system. This includes the mathematics to estimate how much electrical power you could gain by using your river, how much power your overall system might need, and very small lesson on how electricity works in both serial and parallel connections. We'll also go over a mockup analysis to see if a power-hungry user might benefit from such a system and what that might take to power. In the last chapter, we will go over some very important topics, such as: Why you shouldn't rush to connect this system to the system already built into your house if you can help it Why it might be better to keep the system as a standalone unit rather than embed it into your current system and why your current system might actually hold this new system back Why you want to check all the local laws and compliance laws before you do any of this on your own Alternative power can be a real hassle to navigate for the few people who can still do it and it helps to have someone who already built theirs share their experiences on what worked, didn't work, and what can go wrong. This book is designed to giving you a helping hand in navigating the territory to find what you truly need in order to make such as system work for you. Book Grid Connection of Gotikhel Micro Hydropower Plant Without Interrupting Isolated Load

Download or read book Grid Connection of Gotikhel Micro Hydropower Plant Without Interrupting Isolated Load written by Suman Budhathoki and published by GRIN Verlag. This book was released on 2011-11-12 with total page 105 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Master's Thesis from the year 2011 in the subject Electrotechnology, grade: 1.7, Brandenburg Technical University Cottbus, course: Electric Power Engineering - Micro Hydro-power and its grid connection, language: English, abstract: 1. Introduction Gotikhel Hydropower Plant (GHP) is one of the nearest Isolated Micro Hydropower Plant (MHP) from the main city out of 650 isolated MHPs available in Nepal which still supplies electrical power to 173 Households, one hull machine and one school. The extension of national grid has made life of MHPs insecure as consumers want the energy from more reliable source i.e. from national grid. In the context of Nepal, especially in rural areas, construction of MHPs are very costly and because of unplanned extension of national grid, some of MHPs are in closing conditions and same cases will continue more in future. So, there is a huge risk in big investments and valuable efforts of villagers. Synchronization of MHPs to the national grid will be the ultimate solution for the existence of MHPs in Nepal. So, this Master Thesis will also focus on grid connection of GHP and consequent impacts on technical as well as financial sectors before and after the grid connection of GHP. 2. Objectives Taking GHP as a private/ community pilot project for grid connection in Nepal, the following objectives of grid-connected MHPs has been generalized: - To ensure optimum use of national resource and fulfill the possible new demand of energy in rural areas since grid connection and Power Exchange Agreement (PEA) allow the Rural Electrification Entity (REE) to sell their excess energy to Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) grid and the REE can purchase the required energy from the grid when the demand of its members surpass the generation by MHP(s) under it. - To facilitate development of new MHPs by local communities, Individual Power Producers as they can profiteer by selling the excess energy to the grid. - To ensure market for spill energy of MHPs

Book Modelling and Controlling Hydropower Plants

Download or read book Modelling and Controlling Hydropower Plants written by German Ardul Munoz-Hernandez and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-06-13 with total page 301 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Hydroelectric power stations are a major source of electricity around the world; understanding their dynamics is crucial to achieving good performance. The electrical power generated is normally controlled by individual feedback loops on each unit. The reference input to the power loop is the grid frequency deviation from its set point, thus structuring an external frequency control loop. The book discusses practical and well-documented cases of modelling and controlling hydropower stations, focused on a pumped storage scheme based in Dinorwig, North Wales. These accounts are valuable to specialist control engineers who are working in this industry. In addition, the theoretical treatment of modern and classic controllers will be useful for graduate and final year undergraduate engineering students. This book reviews SISO and MIMO models, which cover the linear and nonlinear characteristics of pumped storage hydroelectric power stations. The most important dynamic features are discussed. The verification of these models by hardware in the loop simulation is described. To show how the performance of a pumped storage hydroelectric power station can be improved, classical and modern controllers are applied to simulated models of Dinorwig power plant, that include PID, Fuzzy approximation, Feed-Forward and Model Based Predictive Control with linear and hybrid prediction models.
