Book Peace Child

Download or read book Peace Child written by Don Richardson and published by Baker Books. This book was released on 2005-08-08 with total page 216 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From Cannibals to Christ-Followers--A True Story In 1962, Don and Carol Richardson risked their lives to share the gospel with the Sawi people of New Guinea. Peace Child tells their unforgettable story of living among these headhunters and cannibals, who valued treachery through fattening victims with friendship before the slaughter. God gave Don and Carol the key to the Sawi hearts via a redemptive analogy from their own mythology. The "peace child" became the secret to unlocking a value system that had existed through generations. This analogy became a stepping-stone by which the gospel came into the Sawi culture and started both a spiritual and a social revolution from within. With an epilogue updating how the gospel has impacted the Sawi people, this missionary classic will inspire a new generation of readers who need to hear this remarkable story and the lessons it teaches us about communicating Christ in a meaningful way to those around us.

Book Reuniting the Children of Abraham

Download or read book Reuniting the Children of Abraham written by Brenda Naomi Rosenberg and published by Read the Spirit. This book was released on 2020-01-28 with total page 50 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Reuniting the Children of Abraham is a powerful, multimedia peace initiative created with Jewish, Christian and Muslim families to combat the fear, bigotry and bullying that fuels violence. The multicultural project described in this book includes inspiring true stories and educational materials that flow from the ancient story of Abraham, a patriarch in all three faiths. Just as Abraham’s own children were reunited, this project is a model for calling these vast families of faith toward building peaceful new relationships. The project was the focus of a CBS network special documentary, which pointed out: “Abraham, of the Old Testament, was the founding patriarch of a new, monotheistic faith, which included Jews and later Christians and Muslims. One of his two sons is historically tied to the founding of Judaism, the other to the founding of Islam.” CBS Executive Producer and Director of that special, John P. Blessington, said, “This project is a powerful experience that gives hope to the idea of these three religions being able to find their common heritage as a reason for mutual religious respect and spiritual healing in the future.” Now, the source materials for this project, which range from shared prayers to true stories of young participants, are appearing in book form so that individual readers and small groups will be inspired to carry this kind of interfaith work into their communities. The texts in the book include educational material developed by scholars at the University of Michigan as well as the Michigan State University School of Journalism. The book also draws on wisdom from the Bible as well as the Quran. Reporting for The Detroit Free Press, David Crumm wrote about the urgency of this program, which has been presented in several formats in communities across the country. David wrote, “Once we rediscover our shared origin story in the ancient family of Abraham—Jews, Christians and Muslims living today must face the powerful truth that God still is calling us to reunite our family.” In Minnesota, Muslim community leader and mother Arshia Khan helped to bring the program to Duluth. Arshia said, “God created us for a purpose. We need to learn to live with each other. We believe in the same God. If our children see us doing the right thing, they learn about love and respect for each other.” The book closes with recommendations for further reading as well as links to additional resources available online.

Book Shores Beyond Shores

  • Publisher : TSB
  • Release : 2019-09-17
  • ISBN : 9781916190801
  • Pages : 288 pages

Download or read book Shores Beyond Shores written by Irene Hasenberg Butter and published by TSB. This book was released on 2019-09-17 with total page 288 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Irene's first person Holocaust memoir, Shores Beyond Shores, is an account of how the heart keeps its common humanity in the most inhumane and turbulent of times. Irene's childhood is cut short when she and her family are deported to Nazi-controlled prison camps and finally Bergen-Belsen, where she is a fellow prisoner with Anne Frank. Later forbidden from speaking about her experiences by the American relatives who cared for her, Irene is now making up for lost time. Irene has shared the stage with peacemakers such as the Dalai Lama, Desmond Tutu, and Elie Wiesel, and she considers it her duty to tell her story now and on behalf of the six million other Jews who have been permanently silenced. Book long description: Irene Butter's memoir of her experiences before, during and after the Holocaust is not a recounting of misery and tragedy; rather it is the genuine story of a girl coming to terms with a terrible event and choosing to view herself as a survivor instead of a victim. When the Dutch police knock on their door, Irene and her family are forced to leave their home and board trains meant for cattle. They are taken to Nazi-controlled prison camps and finally to Bergen-Belsen, where Irene is a fellow prisoner with Anne Frank. With limited access to food, shelter, and warm clothing, Irene's family needs nothing short of a miracle to survive. Irene's memoir tells the story of her experiences as a young girl before, during, and after the Holocaust, highlighting how her family came to terms with the catastrophe and how she, over time, came to view herself as a survivor rather than a victim. Throughout the book, her first-person account celebrates the love and empathy that can persist even in the most inhumane conditions. Irene's words send a poignant message against hate at a time when anti-Semitic, fascist and xenophobic movements around the globe are experiencing a resurgence. Irene, through her book, reminds us of the impact one person can have in choosing to follow the mantra, 'never a bystander' -- a phrase she adopted only 33 years ago, after her own voice was silenced by her cousins in the years after the Holocaust. Now, Irene Hasenberg Butter is a well-known inspirational speaker on her experiences during World War II.
