Book MHD Interaction at a Cylinder in Hypersonic Flow

Download or read book MHD Interaction at a Cylinder in Hypersonic Flow written by and published by . This book was released on 2003 with total page 17 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The paper presents the experimental and analytical results of the study of MHD interaction at blunt bodies moving in air with hypersonic velocities (M>6). One of the simplest configurations - the transverse hypersonic flow around a circular cylinder with axial current inducting an athimutal magnetic field of teslas level - is considered. The experiments were conducted at the unique MHD Wind Tunnel facility of TsAGI providing the quasi-stationary hypersonic flow (Mach number 10 - 15). The analysis is based on full Navier Stokes equations coupled with MHD approximation of Maxwell equations and optionally includes finite rate chemistry kinetics. The results of the analyses and numerical simulations have demonstrated that under condition typical of experimental facility of TsAGI MHD wind tunnel the MHD interaction leads to significant changes of gasdynamic characteristics and gas enthalpy redistribution. The main results were preliminary discussed in previous papers devoted to discuss the experimental results obtained during 2001-2002. The potential applications of the obtained results are also discussed.

Book Hypersonic Flow Theory

Download or read book Hypersonic Flow Theory written by Wallace Hayes and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 481 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Hypersonic Flow Theory presents the fundamentals of fluid mechanics, focusing on the hypersonic flow theory and approaches in theoretical aerodynamics. This book discusses the assumptions underlying hypersonic flow theory, unified supersonic-hypersonic similitude, two-dimensional and axisymmetric bodies, and circular cylinder. The constant-streamtube-area approximation, streamtube-continuity methods, and tangent-wedge and tangent-cone are also deliberated. This text likewise covers the similar laminar boundary layer solutions, bluntness induced interactions on slender bodies, and free molecule transfer theory. The dynamics of hypersonic flight or hypersonic wing theory, magnetohydrodynamic theory, or any developments involving treatment of the Boltzmann equation are not included. This publication is intended for hypersonic aerodynamicists, students, and researchers conducting work on the hypersonic flow phenomena.

Book Study of the MHD Interactions in Hypersonic Flow

Download or read book Study of the MHD Interactions in Hypersonic Flow written by and published by . This book was released on 2003 with total page 5 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: To study the MHD-effects in a hypersonic stream, it is assumed to research the stream flowing around a sharp wedge, Mach number of 8, with the adjoint shock wave, under the conditions close to on-site ones at a height of 30 km. For this purpose a test bench has been manufactured for the gas dynamic investigations, on the basis of a shock wind tunnel, quasi-stationary flow duration of at least 5 ms. The nonequilibrium conductivity of the stream is maintained by an electron beam. Air, argon, xenon streams are used.

Book Numerical Investigations of Magnetohydrodynamic Hypersonic Flows

Download or read book Numerical Investigations of Magnetohydrodynamic Hypersonic Flows written by Andrew Guarendi and published by . This book was released on 2013 with total page 115 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Numerical simulations of magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) hypersonic flow are presented for both laminar and turbulent flow over a cylinder and flow entering a scramjet inlet. ANSYS CFX is used to carry out calculations for steady flow at hypersonic speeds (Mach number > 5). The low magnetic Reynolds number (“ 1) calculated based on the velocity and length scales in this problem justifies the quasistatic approximation, which assumes negligible effect of velocity on magnetic fields. Therefore the governing equations employed in the simulations are the compressible Navier-Stokes and the energy equations with MHD-related source terms such as Lorentz force and Joule dissipation. Turbulence effects are accounted for when applicable and multiple turbulence models are compared. The results demonstrate the ability of the magnetic field to affect the flowfield, and variables such as location and magnitude of the applied magnetic field are examined. An examination of future work is provided through the implementation of a semi-discrete central scheme in-house code toward the solution of the Orszag-Tang vortex system.

Book Experimental Aerodynamics

Download or read book Experimental Aerodynamics written by Bruno Chanetz and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-01-03 with total page 329 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents experimental techniques in the field of aerodynamics, a discipline that is essential in numerous areas, such as the design of aerial and ground vehicles and engines, the production of energy, and understanding the wind resistance of buildings. Aerodynamics is not only concerned with improving the performance and comfort of vehicles, but also with reducing their environmental impact. The book provides updated information on the experimental and technical methods used by aerodynamicists, engineers and researchers. It describes the various types of wind tunnels – from subsonic to hypersonic – as well as the problems posed by their design and operation. The book also focuses on metrology, which has allowed us to gain a detailed understanding of the local properties of flows, and examines current developments toward creating a methodology combining experiments and numerical simulations: the computer-assisted wind tunnel. Lastly, it offers an overview of experimental aerodynamics based on a prospective vision of the discipline, and discusses potential futures challenges. The book can be used as a textbook for graduate courses in aerodynamics, typically offered to students of aerospace and mechanical engineering programs, and as a learning tool for professionals and engineers in the fields of aerodynamics, aeronautics and astronautics automobile.

Book Numerical Simulation of 3D Viscous MHD Flows

Download or read book Numerical Simulation of 3D Viscous MHD Flows written by and published by . This book was released on 2003 with total page 6 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The paper proceeds a series of papers devoted to analysis of hypersonic flow control by applied magnetic field. Flows in hypersonic intakes are considered. Preliminary results showed that local MHD interaction in the inlet part of the intake model was the most effective for control over plasma flow field. Experimental investigations demonstrated that wall effects played a significant role in the formation of MHD flow inside the intake channel. In particular, boundary layer on the electrode surface has a considerable influence on the condition of the electric currency pass through the electrode. In such a case, 3D effects may be significant in the flow structure. The objective of the present paper is to investigate numerically the phenomena of shock wave interaction with boundary layer under the influence of the localised MHD effects.
